During the Internship About wage
Hello I’m junior and I think I will go to NewJersey for internship next year. I recently had my J1 visa interview and now waiting the result. The thing is that my wage will be $19~20 per an hour, and total salary is expected to be $4,000~5,000. is it enough to live in NJ?
*There is no dorm

Uhh I work 44 hrs a week in Jersey and make 21 an hour, its livable, not very comfortable, especially due rent prices, you might have to rent a room

Wait are you talking 4k a month or your total stay? 4k a month is doable, for more than a month not so much, I have lived with a monthly 1200 income but I also needed my parents help to survive..

Hello and I misunderstood total amount. It will be around 3300(Before tax income) for a month. I’m not American so I can’t really know the tax system in America

If you are very frugal, and don’t mind having roommates its somewhat livable tbh, but depends on which area in jersey, also some places is not easy to get around without a car, so you might have to account for ubers and stuff, in which area is your internship?

I just saw that you said fort lee in another comment, fort lee is somewhat walkable but from what I know is an expensive area, make sure you find somewhere to live first, because rent will be your highest expense

(Probably) not $1000 a month for 3 months rent eats into the majority of that. I imagine food and getting to work for 3 months will cost more than $1000

for a year you’ll need at least 15-20 grand i’d say unless you have a free place to stay
