So, this is Mini-Scratcher - he was an extremely feral and wild kitty that my roommate and I found living in our yard about 4 years ago, and officially adopted when he went unclaimed at the shelter. Really sweet cat who was extremely afraid of humans at first; it took me about 6 months of strategically standing near him and ignoring him until he let me touch him, and about a year after that until he was comfortable receiving affection from me. I’m still the only human he allows to touch him, but he’s opening up - and sleeping on my bed every night these days, too.
Because he was shy, we never even realized how messed up his teeth were until a couple years after we adopted him. And taking him into a vet involves getting him in a carrier, and he’s… not cooperative, so we’ve not had many chances to have him really looked at and I don’t even know that the vet got a close look at his teeth.
Anyone have any clue what’s going on there? Today was the first time I’d ever managed to get a remotely clear picture of them. My roommate seems to think it’s genetics, but I’ve never once seen a cat with front teeth like THAT. I think he may have received some sort of trauma there as a kitten, which might explain why getting him to trust a single human being was such a terrible intense and time-consuming ordeal. What do you guys think?
