I was at smart and final some months ago and the barcode on my steaks wouldn't scan. I told the cashier to just enter it manually and he said, "Not for what they pay me." And put it in my bag for free.
When my wife and I first moved in together we did a walmart run at like 1am for random stuff for our place. Half the items wouldn't ring up and the cashier looked at the guy in charge and he just put up 2 fingers. Every time. $2 for about 6 or 7 items that were well over $20 each. That was a great night.
