Nintendo making all their games exclusive is basically the only thing that somewhat keeps their entire model afloat. Nobody really needs their crappy handhelds otherwise
You mean they carved out a Business niche for them and stay true to that niche as its been proven to be extremely effective? Whaaaa no waaaaaay
And like... The switch is still very much a hybrid System. It isnt a handheld, its also a home console. You can also play that thing with friends everywhere you got a flat surface. It appeals to the average joe by virtue of being many things in one
How often do you play with friends "everywhere where you got flat surface" that isn't at home on the couch? The versatility doesn't work when all but one functions perform like shit? It is what it is - a handheld, only useful for like road trips or long plane rides. It won't replace an Xbox or PS because performance is way below levels tolerable for at-home gaming, especially if you try to use it with a big screen. Maybe if you play exclusively Mario Kart it can be passible, but beyond that, it can never replace a full scale console
Do you never travel? Do you never move around because of your Job? Do you never go to rural places or cheap inns where they dont have a TV?
The versatility works phenomenally AS SHOWN by the ginormous success of the switch, and saying its "only useful as a handheld" is major copium.
"It wont replace Xbox or PS" it doesnt need to. Its gonna sell very well cause Nintendo has their own niche that appeals to casual consumers a ton, and also... You did Look at the switch 2s specs right? That thing is reaching ps4 levels. And tbh, if your game needs to go beyond ps4 Level Performance you just suck shit at optimization
Well if you can afford traveling frequently and then just gaming while there, then maybe dropping 5 hundred on a toy isn't such a waste
When I do travel I would much rather, like, you know - travel! See places, visit museums, swim, all that shit. If I go somewhere and just sit there gaming, I could do the same shit at home, at a fraction of a cost
This is what I learned owning a switch for a couple years. You use it on the train/plane/car and then you get to lug the thing around with you for the whole trip and not use it.
Friends and family you visit or travel with don't wanna watch or join you on video games. Like you said, one can just stay at home for that with a PC that upgradeable, has more + cheaper games, and has the highest computing power, which is what I got after selling my switch to someone.
Say what you want about Nintendo, but their marketing is very convincing. I thought playing Dark Souls 1 on the train would be end all, final boss level of video gaming. That first Nintendo switch reveal ad was so mind blowing with the satisfying click sound and taking that console for a spin in the real world...
Can't see the screen with sun glare, 30 fps cap, and a battery that last less than 2 hours.....okay. Oh, also it's made with the same plastic they make kinder surprise egg toy capsules with...
Curse you, Nintendo ads, for making me wanna feel like a kid playing games again.
Do you never travel? Do you never move around because of your Job? Do you never go to rural places or cheap inns where they dont have a TV?
I used travel A LOT for work about 80% out of the year and no I never stayed in a place that didn’t have a tv. Even the shittiest of hotels will have a cheap flatscreen
I just have a custom built gaming laptop I also use for work when I travel. Best of both worlds. I can balance the sheets and also play cyberpunk on ultra settings anywhere. I got gifted a switch, and frankly I completed BOTW and never touched it again. My laptop is just better by any metric.
