Do people not understand inflation? Games have been $60 since the early 2000s... No other media has maintained a price point like that for 20+ years.

Games should cost more, get over it.

Fuck off with that

$80 base game that you don't own, $10 monthly subscription to play the game, then all the DLC you'll have to buy in a few years.

Plus people are not being payed more, thus cannot buy more expensive stuff. Inflation implies the peoples wages are also going up.

so shut up about inflation

then all the DLC you'll have to buy in a few years.

People will say this shit not realizing that all of the corner cutting and in-game subscription services and premium currencies and seasonal passes and loot boxes are products of greedy corporations being afraid to change the base price of a game, so either they need to spend less money and time on it to make it garbage, or pack it full of hundreds of other ways to milk the players dry

No, they've shown no fear in raising the price. The PS3 and 3DS were really expensive at launch right? It's because no one can actually justify games being so expensive.

DLC and loot boxes came from predatory design to get more money subtly. It would have happened no matter what. Thinking the company will surely get full from all that money and not want more is dumb.

Plus the audience for games has increased massively since the N64. Most people play games, so it can be expected the price doesn't shoot up because they have more buyers to make up the cost.

Nintendo is also known to be greedy as hell. Saying inflation doesn't mean jack.

The market growing has also allowed consistent pricing since the N64. However the market has grown and isn't getting bigger but the costs to make games are increasing.

You don't HAVE to buy DLC and when you do you get more content that took time to make and is a product in and of itself. Everything is getting more expensive, video games aren't immune from costs increasing for everything else.

And back in 2005 you were paying $60 for a game and the only way to play it was a ~$12 a month Xbox Live subscription... Which again was 20 years ago.

And actually, if you follow inflation exactly, a $60 game should cost $110 today. And yet they have only very recently raised it to 70-80.

Be happy it took them this long, games should have been costing more for years by now.

People like you is why it’ll be another $10-$20 more expensive next year, we went from $60 to $70 only just a few years ago. I’m so happy about making more room in my wallet for the company that profits in the billions each year

The inflation adjusted median income in the US has been going up over the past few decades. And if you look at total compensation it's been growing even faster.

Also at the same time the number of hours worked has dropped by about 10% since the 50s.

It's greedflation. The price of games has outpaced inflation pretty significantly. Why are you simping for corporations?

Uhm, nope. Do some basic research buddy. $60 from the year 2000-2005 today would range from $97-110 dollars.

The price of games has stayed stagnant at $60 for practically two decades. Nothing else has done that. This was long overdue

Interesting how wages and compensation have not been adjusted accordingly.. Nintendo will use their additional profits to pay all of their employees better, right?

They actually probably will. They have a good track record for employee treatment.

And it should stay at 60. No one's buying games for 70-80$

Asking a company to permanently lock their price points for a product at a certain point while simultaneously asking for a better and more complete product is asinine.

Why do you think micro-transactions became so popular? They sell you the game for $60 and then entice you to spend 10-15 on something in the game. They've been hiding the need for a ~$80 price point for revenue. It's just gotten so out of hand at this point, they need to make the jump to stay profitable.

Yeah that's cool, but the thing is, I really don't care. If it was 70$ for newer games I might understand, but 70$ for the old games and 80$ for new ones is just insanity.

Not only is he simping for a company, but a company that shits on its own fanbase as well. Let's set his inflation argument to the side for a moment.

Nintendo is the same company that attempted to shut down a charity event just because they were using Super Smash Brothers Melee instead of Ultimate..
