Overdone One of my neighbours continues to overhang his car into my parking bay.

I wrote him a note as I'm sick of it.

It forces me over in to my next door neighbours bay, which I literally cannot stand doing.

You enter from south west (8 on a clock) of the first photo, which you can see better in the third photo.

Would literally have to swing the car in a backwards C shape to get it positioned like that.

And the worst thing about it is. He can't even get it in his bay when he's the only car there!

Anyone else had similar with neighbours? It's driving me mad.

For reference to, this was instantly after I saw it this morning too. I angrily pulled up to take a photo and write a note. I straightened up the van after, like my car in the third photo.

If this doesn't work, what else?

Reverse the van in when their car is not there, so the tyres are almost touching the paint marks.

50

u/ND_Cooke 9d ago

I did that with the car. I looked out the window the other day and see him gone. So I ran out and moved my car back in my bay. He parked fine that night and another night I got back first and it's back to before already. Was trying to make a point, the note was next idea, I'm getting sick of it. It's so rude.

u/LazyEmu5073 9d ago

Are they a short-arse who can barely see over the steering wheel? Put a traffic cone here, or put white paint markings on the little fence there, so they can see it when they pull in...

u/ND_Cooke 9d ago

I was actually thinking of stealing one of the red barriers they use to cordon off phone and Internet line boxes and construction stuff but I don't want to get arrested for being frustrated about a parking spot.

I've unfortunately thought about this a number of days. I didn't have access to a vehicle first month I moved here, now I have a van from work and I have a cheap car bought already. He knows there's a vehicle parked there regularly now and I just think it's blatent rudeness or stupidity.

u/TheRebuild28 8d ago

Can buy them on Amazon. Had to get cones after someone hit my car (both the front and rear bumper šŸ˜)

11

u/Hot-Win2571 Mildly Flair 8d ago

You know, you can buy those red barriers. The Internet and construction companies usually don't build them themselves.

4

u/ND_Cooke 8d ago

I wasn't actually going to steal a red barrier. It was just one of them silly thoughts that you can make up when you are a little pissed off with how to stop it. I'm really hoping it just stays a silly thought.

3

u/Hot-Win2571 Mildly Flair 8d ago

I liked the thought of them finding barriers in the way of their doors. So even better if you bolted bollards to the lines.

1

u/ND_Cooke 8d ago

I would be a liar if I said I hadn't considered swiping a public to do something because of it šŸ˜‚

Reminding of my second year at uni where we all ended up brung home traffic cones after nights out aha!

2

u/Ecoclone 8d ago

I eould use caltrops in place of a cone

1

u/theberg512 8d ago

Do it when their car IS there. Every time.

67

u/T1mischief 9d ago

Time to repay the favor and see if it annoys him

60

u/ND_Cooke 9d ago

But it would annoy me that I haven't parked correctly, probably more than it would annoy him too šŸ˜‚

I'm betting no woman wants to be within 1000 feet of you, including your mom

21

u/Personal_Anxiety2232 9d ago

Heā€™s doing this to spite you.

43

u/LegDayLass 9d ago

Looks like OPā€™s van doesnā€™t fit in that space either, ass is in the roadway.

19

u/ND_Cooke 9d ago

Little update. Car isnt there right now. So note has been seen. Slotted van back in spot.

7

u/karateninjazombie 9d ago

Do post updates when they get back!

Once a week. Car the other six. As I've said multiple times to you donuts that type before read.

3

u/Acharyn 8d ago

So you're only an asshole when parking your vehicle 1 day of the week. Maybe stop doing that.

-5

u/ND_Cooke 8d ago

u/Revolutionary_Laugh 9d ago

He's probably sick of your van hanging out three foot into the road.

-22

u/ND_Cooke 9d ago

Mate, I work nights. I come home to the car there more than you may think, trust me. It's there one day a week too, which is today. The car is there the other six. You could have simply asked 'do you reckon your van annoys him?' instead of thinking you know already.

26

u/Boston_Glass 9d ago

Your van still doesnā€™t fit in your spot regardless of whatever excuses youā€™re using to justify it.

16

u/wwwhatisgoingon 9d ago

Depending on the road layout, you're parked entirely across the pavement -- which is at least equally inconsiderate.

This looks to be private car park, so whether that counts as pavement or not depends on how they've designated the area.

2

u/Lollc 8d ago

No. OPs van is twice the length of the little shitbox. Even if they pulled all the way forward to touch the metal strip, there will still be some overhang.

-3

u/ND_Cooke 9d ago

It's clearly not a pavement. It's a kerb for the bays, they are bricked the same.

11

u/ScottScanlon 9d ago

You got it wrong. You need to get closer to HIS bay so he canā€™t get into his car. I would literally be inches from his car, but still inside your bay. Heā€™ll get the point when heā€™s entering his car from the passenger side.

12

u/Peterd1900 9d ago edited 9d ago

If OP parked the Van like you described

OP would have to get out of the passenger side while the driver of the car could can just get in the drivers side

Its the UK meaning vehicles are Right Hand Drive

If OP wanted to park to block the neighbours drivers door they would have to park in a bay on the right which might be someone elses bay.

Unless the silver car reverse parks your idea wouldnt work

3

u/ManMango 9d ago

I've also parked very close to a car before that was parked like a nobber, if I hadn't, my wife wouldn't have been able to get out of the passenger side. I had to climb through.

When I came back, the bay next to me was empty, and my car had been keyed all the way down the drivers side...

1

u/theberg512 8d ago

Judging by those plates, I think that is the passenger side.

3

u/No-Industry3112 8d ago

Assert dominance

3

u/Bawkalor 8d ago

Caltrops. We need more caltrops.

20

u/X_Maarten 9d ago

So you are complaining about a car that is parked 10 cm over that white line while your own van clearly doesn't fit this parking space and is parked by at least 10 times as much outside the white line on the back?

I would tone it down with the aggressiveness when parking something that doesn't fit the parking space yourself.

-8

u/ND_Cooke 9d ago

Fits perfect mate. I'm asking for a little help, not a lecture on how to park.

21

u/X_Maarten 9d ago

So the white line in front of your rear tires is just for decoration?

-3

u/ND_Cooke 9d ago

My van is in the bay, inside both lines, using part of the ramp/kerb that is still part of the car park to fit it in. Not on the road, or in anyone's way for the entry point to their own bay.

11

u/HungrySign4222 9d ago

It looks more like a walkway where the line is. I think youā€™re overhanging onto a walkway which is why the white line divides it.

7

u/DigginLifeSince94 8d ago

As someone else said, those marks are decorative unless someone else is taking 5cm of your spot

4

u/HungrySign4222 8d ago

OP is hanging out past the end of their parking space. The vehicle is too long for that space. Their neighbor is infuriating but so is OP for not making sure they have a proper parking spot thatā€™s suitable for the size of their vehicle to begin with.

0

u/ND_Cooke 8d ago

Have guys even read what I said in the post or seen comments.

Voila. Read before speak.

2

u/jalapenoeyes 8d ago

I think they're referring to the other photo, the first one you posted. Theres a line near the rear tires there running perpendicular to the parking spot. The van seems to overhang THAT line a fair bit, which folks are speculating is considered too big for the space (regardless of whether you fit between the two parallel lines).

0

u/ND_Cooke 8d ago

Not many people read the post then. It's in black and white explained what I did next. Have a look again.

It's frustrating that I explained it and it's skipped so heavily by people.

4

u/foonsirhc 8d ago

You are frustrating.

4

u/HungrySign4222 8d ago

Youā€™re very clearly overhanging into an area you arenā€™t supposed to be in as well. See how your dividing line has a T mark? Thatā€™s the maximum youā€™re allowed to overhang. Donā€™t throw stones in glass houses.

0

u/Nefarious-do-good13 8d ago

Are you the neighbor?

2

u/Teninchontheslack 9d ago

Back into space right down middle of line.

2

u/mike2ff 9d ago

We had a guy like that at work. Someone brought in an old rolling floor jack and we would jack up the back and turn his car 90degrees. and then box him in. I think the cobblestone-ish in this picture would stop the jack from rolling well though.

3

u/eggyal 9d ago

cobblestone-ish

FYI, they're bricks.

2

u/Im_here_lets_begin 9d ago

Unfortunately he likely canā€™t drive lol

2

u/SmoothCarl22 9d ago

This is a case for a screw or nail to sort... more than one time if they onsist on it...

2

u/texasrockhauler 9d ago

Loosen or remove the valve stem cores so the tires go flat.

2

u/Pukaza 8d ago

I would park close to his door so he has to squeeze in or go in through the passenger door

3

u/Peterd1900 8d ago

in the picture we see the drivers side of the van and the passenger side of the car

it is the UK so Right Hand Drive

Preventing the car from opening his passenger is not going to acheive much. if OP was to move the van to the right to block the drivers door OP would just be parking in another resident bay

2

u/Budget_Economist1480 8d ago edited 8d ago

Next time you need to leave note, you should probably type it because that handwriting is erratic. Combined with the exclamation point, you probably scared them.

2

u/rustylust 8d ago

The smoked lights tell it all lol.

1

u/Pengiiin 8d ago

idk why everyone hates you for parking your van correctly lol. i dont see any issue with the way you parked.

people here seem like the type of people who would park their cars the way your neighbor did... idk what their problem with your parking is, i dont see any.

2

u/ND_Cooke 8d ago

I've given up defending myself. I was actually asking for advice and willing to explain as seen. Comments and in my post.

People just saw the first picture and the title and presumed everything they needed to know instantly. It's told me to be more descriptive in post titles than body text for next time anyway.

4

u/LokiKamiSama 9d ago

Wait till he parks, go out and remark, getting as close as possible. More points if you can angle your vehicle so itā€™s simultaneously super close and angled so heā€™s wedged in. ( \ | ) <ā€” like that. Then he has to do lots of maneuvers to get out and not hit your vehicle.

3

u/ND_Cooke 9d ago

Interesting. I never thought about something like that. Only concern is annoying other car park users. I could do that with the car, not so sure a van would please the others and it's not fair to annoy them.

7

u/Independent-Oven-919 9d ago

Do that, and he will definitely hit your car.

Do you think someone who can't park their car between two lines will be able to get out of this situation without hitting anything?

4

u/FalconStickr 8d ago

Love how you guys call it a bay over there.

3

u/Kutfunk 9d ago

He 100% knows you, better than you know yrself.

3

u/ND_Cooke 9d ago

Never spoke to him. Only moved in 2 months ago. Unlikely.

1

u/-BananaLollipop- 9d ago

You don't need to meet someone formally to read their reactions.

2

u/Shade_Folk 8d ago

An anonymous rock through the window during the darkest hours of the night has always solved my parking debacles.

2

u/potcake80 9d ago

That van is a damn eyesore to the street

3

u/ND_Cooke 9d ago

Man's gotta eat. Only once a week.

1

u/karateninjazombie 9d ago

Reverse the van in so it's on the line. Then they cannot do that.

1

u/socalibew 9d ago

Now you should move your vehicle over to where it is physically impossible to open his door.

2

u/Peterd1900 9d ago

in picture we see the drivers side of the van and the passenger side of the car

UK so Right Hand Drive

Preventing the car from opening his passenger is not going to acheive much. if OP was to move the van to the right to block the drivers door OP would just be parking in another resident bay

Ah, understood. I should have known from the extra vowels in their writing.

Guess they'll just some caltrops then.

1

u/AthleticoBurrito 8d ago

Just accidentally drop some nails on the edge of your bay each night

1

u/Rainydays206 8d ago

Get a set of wheel dollies and move it back. Or really wherever you want n the lot.

1

u/bielmasll 8d ago

He might stop doing it if your handwriting was readable

1

u/Libba_Loo 9d ago

Next time you park and his car isn't there, overhang into his a little. One good turn deserves another.

2

u/hashlettuce 8d ago

Have you tried maybe, I don't know, a face to face chat. People tend to be less dickish when actually confronted about their behavior. Hey there neighbor, I see you are having trouble parking properly, is there a medical health thing going on preverting you from parking properly or are you just being lazy and inconsiderate?

0

u/DryStatistician7055 9d ago

One of your neighbors is a jerk

0

u/SadAbroad4 9d ago

Next time you pull in angle yourself the same and park 2 or three inches from the door

1

u/Peterd1900 9d ago

What would that acheive. if OP forward parks and does that OP would have to climb out of the passenger side of the van. it would affect the car driver in no way whatsoever. all op would be doing would be making harder for himself to get out

Take the picture we see the drivers side of the van and the passenger side of the car.

0

u/ShopUCW 9d ago

Also mildly infuriating: all the wagons we don't get in the states.. šŸ˜

0

u/potcake80 9d ago

Itā€™ll be ok Iā€™m sure

0

u/nenulenu 8d ago

Well, give them a beNefit of doubt. May be they canā€™t see where the lines because they are a new driver. May be put up a stick with reflective tape to show where the line is?

0

u/lifeisgood7658 8d ago

Calm down he is like 2in in

0

u/joeyat 8d ago

Problem that could be solved with a normal 121 chat...... go out there at the same time.. and saying "oh hi Greg, how's it going".. or whatever his name is.... Then a pause to get in your van.. "oh, yeah, I notice you aways hang over the bay, this van is a massive boat to squeeze in, I don't want the wind to catch my door or something and it swings out and dings you by accident.. you ok swinging her in more precise".. "cheers"..

only the police, DVLA and local authorities can clamp, block or tow your vehicle.

OP himself cant have it towed at the nieighbours expense

If the land is private property those organisations are not going to come around and tow a vehicle

i said

You cant get vehicles towed in the UK.

I did not say vehicles cannot be towed in the UK full stop

The vehicle here is not blocking their driveway

You could come and find a vehicle fully parked on your driveway and you cant get it towed. Police wont tow a vehicle in that circumstance either because its trespass and not a police matter.

Vehciles can be towed but you cant get them towed or have them nor can you have them towed at the owners expense

The police can tow but the police are not you

I had 'LEARN HOW TO PARK' on it but ripped it off, didnt want to come across aggressive first time. I thought I'd go easy first note, second note maybe not. A third time I'm knocking on the door I think but I wanna hear if anyone else has had something like this and how they resolved it. Because I'm likely to shout at him if I have to knock I'm going to be honest.

Park all the way against their car so they have to get in the passenger seat till they stop

For op to block the cars driver door op would have to park in the bay on the right which is probably someone else bay
