This stupid gift wrap
What is even the point of this crap? It looks silver but is completely clear and doesn’t say that anywhere on the packaging.

I’ve done this four times. You’d think I’d learn

If I had a nickel for every time that happened I’d have 2 nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it happened twice

😂 I’ve done it once. I feel it is a right of passage for gift givers. 😂

u/SaltSpiritual515 8h ago
Just wrap it like 2x with the clear stuff and then at least they have a project 😂

u/Angelswithroses 14h ago
What I hate the most is not finding out until the very last moment that you're about to wrap something to give it away and then, boom, you have no way or time to go buy another.

u/Dayoldbananabread 9h ago
Imagine just saying “screw it” and wrapping the gift in this anyways. I would laugh so hard if someone did that to me!

Have you not seen cellophane wrapped gift baskets etc?
406
u/twiztednips 15h ago
Yeah I have that’s a good point. The silver is what annoyed me. I thought the whole roll was a reflective silver.

You're not alone my friend! I think this is the 4th post I've seen around reddit about this in recent months. It is so misleading and evil! The only reason why I ever knew about it was because I worked at a store that sold these and a customer came charging into my customer service area one day. I, of course, immediately gave a full refund and I printed a sign that I stuck to the shelf saying "This is clear NOT SILVER!!!" to warn people 🤣

The fact it doesn’t say clear on it is very frustrating. The fact they make the roll shown to be silver instead of cardboard color is mildly infuriating.

I work at a craft store and you are not the only one. I’ve had to tell more than one person checking out it’s clear.

u/beaniecreates 12h ago
the thing is, usually with cellophane gift wraps. it tells you on the product “cellophane wrapping” or something similar. this says nothing of those sorts

I agree that the silver is dumb and deceptive. But! My mom and I have this bit where we always wrap eachother's gifts as ridiculously as possible (think multiple layers, clear packing tape along all seams and corners of the gift wrap, that sort of thing), and I feel like this would be a perfect way to wrap the last layer. You think you have the last layer off because you see the gift, then you take this off thinking it's the plastic wrap, then boom, more plastic wrap, bonus points if there's a layer of shrink wrap between these two. It's honestly perfect and I'm very excited to have seen this post. One man's frustration is another man's next prank.

u/EightMilesHigher 12h ago
I normally hate pranking, but when it’s reciprocal (? sorry if this is the wrong usage) as yours is with your mum, this would be a good one! 😁
43
u/Cicada7Song 14h ago
You can put it over matte paper to make it shiny or use it to wrap a basket
9
u/EightMilesHigher 11h ago
Think of the wastage though. Two lots of wrapping going in the bin instead of one. Sorry for being a downer.

As soon as I saw the picture I thought, 'thats clear, oh boy'.
Sure enough

Christmas came early. Usually we only see this wrapping paper and these posts around then.

Okay BUT HEAR ME OUT! If you want to wrap an oddly shaped gift, like a basketball. You layer the printed wrapping paper on top of this when cutting and the wrapping paper does not rip.
I use it and then make the balls look like large candies by tying each of the sides with curling ribbon. I don’t get the physics but everyone always compliments it and seem to love it.
Those oddly shaped packages when it is large at the bottom and gets thinner at the top and rips? Layer the wrapping paper with this and it won’t rip in that section with nothing that you could poke a hole in with your finger. I keep this on hand at all times.

It’s for gift baskets and things that cant’t be wrapped easily. Easter Baskets are wrapped this way

If you have tissue paper what I do if I’ve bought the clear by accident is I usually just wrap my gift with tissue paper and then layer the clear wrapping paper on top. It makes for a cute alternative.

I worked in a card shop and it was pretty common for people to pick this up thinking it's silver wrapping paper. I had to check each time that they knew what it actually was. I do think they should sell reflective silver though as I think that would be really pretty.

Fell for the same 💩 when I was younger. My mom send me to buy Gift Wrap. Man was she disappointed in me 🤣

u/Lucid-Liminality 14h ago
Note to self: check it's actually silver and not clear 😂 I could totally see myself doing this 🤣

Hahaha, I feel you, op! :D
I had the same problem before christmas. I was short on time and grabbed a roll of silver wrapping only to find out it was clear. I still have that roll because I don't know what to use it for.

u/snootnoots 4h ago
Weird shaped items: Wrap it up in crumpled colourful tissue paper, then use this as the outer layer.
Lots of small things: Wrap them individually, put them in a basket, wrap the basket in this.

Honestly, my first time seeing gift wrap posted here, but I haven't been on reddit for more than 2 years 🤣

u/kikipev 13h ago
Just searching “silver paper” in this sub there are ~7 posts in the last year, I feel like I see them constantly.

u/Angelswithroses 13h ago
I do open the app about 3 or 4 times a day and will scroll for maybe less than 5, but I'll get other random posts and not ones from here all the time, so probably why 😅

Yes, I’m not a fan of that kind of wrapping paper either. Unless you wrap things tie them and put them inside a bag or a basket.

We use clear for gift baskets, bottles of wine, and plates/boxes of sweets/cookies.

Stupid gift idea: wrap a brand new unopened roll of cellophane with it.

The stuff in the pic but without the veggies and hands (and table), for clarification.
If your gf/wife/mom has humour and she has some cooking skills, they'll get the joke. Also, don't forget an actual present. It's only a joke if it's just a joke. Alone it's an insult (for the most).

u/upsidedowntoker 12h ago
I've made this same mistake thinking it was silver . In the end I just used it as gift bag filler.

Why do they make clear gift wrap? Isn’t the point to conceal whats underneath?

One or two times , I got some Black sketchbooks as i wanted to test some white ink on black paper.
I found out the sketchbook i bought had only the cover black and paper sheets were all white. I specifically looked for a sketchbook with black paper but nowhere have I found any description online if the "black" was the cover or paper. Only in store i saw the sides of the sketchbook white, felt like I was scammed.
Nobody cares about the colour of just the bloody cover (at least not as much as the contents). Just tell me what the paper inside looks like.

Is this wrapping “paper” for some nipple related activity ? Just noticed your name. Kind of makes me think that everything in your life is about nipples. Is that the case ?
4
u/Angelswithroses 13h ago
No no, don't change the subject to the weird nipple thing! How dare you accuse someone of faking and then act so non chalant. Lmao
0
u/TheMuffler42069 13h ago
He is faking ! He purchased wood pattern gift wrap and is trying to act like it’s clear all the while he’s probably sitting at home going to town on his nips just cranking them damn near off his body because he’s gotten one over on all of you fooooooools

That’s what I’m wondering too. Like I’ve definitely seen it say “cello” gift wrap.

Then you're lying cause they just posted the full picture.

Not you getting triggered after you just agreed with someone that OP was lying when they werent. The freaking hypocrisy with you people 💀🤣 Idk what yall got going on, but I can see the entire label on OPs original photo, yall are just looking for something that isn't there. There's nothing else on the label around it on the photo.
The one you posted isn't even the same either, and the word "cello" is right under the bigger word, where else would they write the label color. 💀 not above the word "spritz'

u/NecessaryTurnover189 13h ago
I am getting triggered some dumb reddit cow calling me a liar for something I have personally saw with my own eyes. Like htf does this cow know what I have seen, to call me a liar?
I didn’t say OP was lying I said I was “wondering that too”. Saying that you’re “wondering” about something doesn’t mean I said matter of factly said that he was lying. Like you did, cow. Have a good day in your Reddit righteousness.

u/juntalope 13h ago
You.... do realize that brands can change their packaging.. right? And sell similar products??
0
u/NecessaryTurnover189 13h ago
Oh I am absolutely aware of this. That’s why I said “it’s a different label”.
1
u/juntalope 11h ago
What point are you trying to make, then? So you found a different roll of gift wrap, so what? Why are you trying to make it look like the OP is lying?

It’s weird because when you open it it’s obviously wood grain colored
