We had a pet groomer do this a few times so I just bought my own clippers and do it myself now. My dog looks like a rat when I'm done but fur = shorter and that's all I wanted from the groomer.

I had a groomer no-show once, then stood me up on the follow up, then was late to the third attempt. I told her forget it, then she tried to charge me a cancellation fee. I told her I would see her in court before I paid a cancellation fee after she had wasted so much of my time.

Funny how the cancellation fee would apply to you but not to her šŸ˜’

That's because the groomer doesn't pay you to from your dog...

I personally had to from your dog quite a bit back in the day

u/HappyFireChaos 22h ago

did you end up actually paying it?

Hell no. She tried to give me an excuse and then a sob story and I told her if she was hurting for money she should have been here when she said she would. I told her I definitely wouldnā€™t be paying and she could take me to court if she feels Iā€™m liable.

meanwhile my dog was likeā€¦

Donā€™t you have to pay a bunch of money for a lawyer in order to take people to court?

u/decomposition_ 21h ago

Not for small claims court

u/rci22 21h ago

Thanks! TIL

Youā€™re actually not allowed to have representation in small claims court. If you think I owe you $1,300 over a broke motorcycle youā€™re gonna stand up in front of a judge and tell them why with your own words.

u/DrunkNuckChorris 8h ago

I may be wrong but, not allowed? Surely they are at least allowed? Regardless, for most small courts issues youā€™ll at least want or need a lawyer outside of court to help you find and complete any needed paperwork and help you with strategy

You can have someone prepare your case if you want, but small claims court is you, the judge, and the other guy, in a room, to figure out whatā€™s what.

Nah normally small claims is super informal, no special legal talk or anything, just both sides giving their story and the judge mediating and asking followups.

Essentially the judge is doing the job of both parties lawyer.

As someone else said not in small claims. But also small claims itself is way less expensive than most think, in my state the fee is generally around $50. Also it's not some long drawn out litigation process, normally it's one hearing and you're in and out in a couple hours total.

Also many places the person you're suing has to pay your court fees if the ruling is in your favor, as well as reasonable costs incurred from attempting to recover the debt(ie. A few hours pay based on your avg hourly income or the median avg, for your time in court and filing).

Those extra fees also incentivize anyone with more than a few brain cells to just pay up if they think you're seriously gonna take them to small claims. A $50 debt could easily turn into $200+.

I bet your pup looks precious and feels better no matter how bad a job you think you do! And such savings!Ā

One time I took a little too much off the top and had to stop there because I was laughing too hard to hold the trimmer steady. I trimmed the rest of her a few days later.

This is how she is supposed to look.

Thank god you gave her a bath. She is a whole different dog clean and trimmed lmao

No, same feisty fiend, on the hunt for more dirt to roll in 20 seconds after the bath.

At first glance this picture made me think she was nursing a bunch of dalmatian puppies.

Let's hope Cruella de Vil doesn't think the same

My friend did that once, just set the clippers way too short and went ā€œoh no!ā€ And just. Stopped. The poor dog had just a ton of fur and then a nearly bald stripe. It was hilarious

If i didn't have to walk her in public I'd for sure give her a mohawk or some decorative cut. šŸ˜† What a sweet, fuzzy little cutie pie!

Similar happened when my adult son first used the vacuum clippers on our poodle. šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

u/BigRoach 21h ago

Lmao, bro Iā€™m reporting you to the authorities. šŸ˜† That baby didnā€™t deserve that.

First time grooming my dogs and one turned out looking like a raccoon on meth. Watched a ton of YouTube videos and eventually I got good enough at it that I floored the professional groomers (health issues stopped me). I really enjoy it now so Iā€™m looking forward to getting back to it post-op! So stick with it and you may end up falling in love with the process.

u/snak_attak 1d ago

Iā€™m about to do the same except she wonā€™t let me cut her nails ugh. I need a groomer for that with the table and the leash pole thing

u/Minimum_Meaning_418 23h ago

Get some training treats. Play with your dogs paws and reward them if they let you do it. Once they are used to it start doing it with the clippers out.

20

u/Phoenyx_Rose 21h ago

Getting consent also helps. My dog knows that once he pulls his paws away weā€™re done with trimming and I just try again another time. I think itā€™s the only reason heā€™ll sit for me for so long, because he knows I wonā€™t force him to let me trim his nails.

u/Snoo-88741 2h ago

I do that with my cats. I keep the clippers handy for when they're in a cuddly mood, then just clip a couple nails and stop.

4

u/RomeTotalWar2004Fan 1d ago

Yeah I don't do nails. I make my wife do that.

2

u/gomicao 23h ago

you might be able to buy that for less than the nail appointment...

I had this happen with my old hairdresser and thatā€™s the story of how I learned to cut my own hair and saved a shit ton of money ever since.

Tbf she really did have serious health issues which I already knew. The issue was the salon she worked at who were crap at actually telling me when she was out sick. After I turned up for an appointment to find out sheā€™d been out sick for two weeks they just hadnā€™t bothered to tell me I started cutting my own hair.

u/HappyFireChaos 22h ago

similar thing happened with my mom and i's hairstylist (i was like 3/4 at the time). I'm gonna call her L. she doesn't have health issues, but she got sick one time for a couple of weeks and the ulta she worked at just didn't tell my mom. one person finally told her but she admitted she wasn't supposed to. i think they delayed information when L stopped working there, there. good thing L and my mom had each-other's phone numbers by then.

ulta wanted us to be an Ulta customer, not an L customer.
