My dog only chewed the green sections off her soccer ball

She looks so chuffed with herself for achieving that goal!

Very chuff, the ball popping and hissing some air out surprised her though. Game over

Dogs can't see the color red. To a dog, the colorful fun part of the ball is the green.

Fun fact it's likely dogs perceive green as an off yellow color!! And they see blue and yellow fairly well too!!! 😎

That's why dogs love the cartoon Bluey

My adorable husband who knows dogs can see blue and yellow genuinely thought Bluey was a show for dogs. Like, excitedly exclaimed "have you seen the show for dogs!?" Lol not the first time I've had to reel him back.

I’ve heard that they did intentionally choose the colour scheme to be appealing to dogs so he’s not that far off! XD

This is the 2nd time today I've heard this. One of my students brought it up earlier.
Bluey really is perfect for everyone

I also see green as yellow. And yellow as green. I have red and blue swapped as well.

They absolutely can see red. They are dichromats, with their long-wavelength cones covering the wavelengths that humans see as red and green. So they would see the red and green patches as being very similar in hue, though perhaps different in saturation or value.

I thought this! And the post really threw me off because the pup chewed the green not the red. V interesting.

no, they are red green color blind so they can’t see green as well

u/FiftyShadesOfGregg 1d ago
No the original person is right (or more right). The red would be like a murky brownish yellow to a dog, where the green would be a brighter yellow.

How so? My response may have been a bit crude but I more or less understand colorblindness. And to me it sounds as if the person I replied to is implying that dogs can perceive the color green but not the color red.
Also, I think you are wrong. If you look in the photo, the bright green is not the original color of the ball, but the color beneath the “skin” that the dog ripped off. You can still see remnants of the original green, which appears darker than the red. So wouldn’t the darker green be less bright and appealing? Of course this is only considering value. Hue would play a role as well but I can’t really tell how that would affect the “murkiness.” Best to put it through a colorblind filter I guess but I don’t know those are really accurate.

Human color blindness is not the same as how dogs see. Here is a good visual! https://www.urbanpethospital.com/blog/post/dogs-colorblind

No you’re wrong, because I can type “no actually” on the internet too. No context needed, get it right next time dumbass.

I’m right there with him. Fuck red dye 40, man. Grocery store birthday cake-ruining poison.

It probably a different level or type of plasticizer that keeps the plastic from becoming brittle. Like antifreeze, it tastes good but is not good to ingest.

Looking at the ball and I'm like....those patches are green and they haven't been touched....
Then I read comments where someone mentions the left over red and white patches....being color blind is fun.

Everyone seems focused on the color but it looks like the green sections are made of a different material that's likely easier to grip with her teeth.

Hell yeah! I live in a legal state and my dispo is dog friendly so we always go together. He LOVES the smell. So much so that whenever I pack or spark up he associates it with comfort and happiness and “OMG FRIENDLY PEOPLE WHO GIVE ME ALL THE ATTENTION” (In his mind I’m guessing lol) and sits RIGHT next to me so he can enjoy the smell.

Ha! That is awesome. I’m in FL so no rec dispensary’s here yet. She gets pretty excited when she sees or hears me messing with the grinder cause she knows we’re about to go outside to play

Border collie and/or Aussie? My Aussie will always pull off the eyes of every stuffy she gets. Quite meticulously too. Whether they’re sewn in or buttons, she gets to work removing the eyes first

u/neveroddoreven- 1d ago
Aussie, she likes to go for the squeakers instantly then carries the squeaker less toys around for a few more weeks

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

I had a dog that only played with orange toys. For years I tried all kinds of toys and the answer was the color was wrong?? Apparently??

My cat has these little toy balls red and green. He will only play with the green ones

I'm just here to say your girl is gorgeous, thank you for sharing this photo. I lost my Aussie in 22' and seeing your girls paws gave me this overwhelming sense of comfort. It was nice reminder scrolling through Reddit at 12am.
She looks quite proud of her accomplishment 🥹

Dogs can't see red (they probably appear greyish), so the green spots probably look more interesting.
2
u/MysteriousFlight1174 7h ago
They can see green better than red, I wonder if that’s it? They can see blue and yellow well though, maybe try a blue one next and see what happens lol
