Grandpa Neil is a front runner!

I’ve decided to move to Washington immediately and spend all my savings to ingratiate myself with the pageant people so I can try to be on the panel of judges choosing the winner.

Your grandpa is going to go to the Miss America pageant.

How does he look in a cocktail dress?

I’d watch this YouTube video, especially if it was with Max Fosh

We are certain this isn't a scam???

OK as someone who cares for my 92 year old grandfather.. I don't know yours but mine would be down. Even just as a joke. He can show up with paperwork in hand wearing his late wife's dress and his walker. Even if he didn't make the cut it's a family story.

He might even pull it off. It says no swimsuit competition

Hey. Don't be ageist. He could swing in some Speedos.

28

u/Johnny_B_Asshole 1d ago

You obviously don’t know about ball drop.

He’ll be swinging something all right.

u/captainrina 1d ago

I was gonna say that Gramps should 100% show up, letter in hand. It would give everyone a good laugh.

I’ve gotten pedicures with my 93 year old grandpa more than once. One time while visiting all the women went to get pedis and he was just like “I’m 88 and I’ve never had a pedicure, can I come?” Now he gets them on the regular because it’s hard to care for your feet as you age. Also, fwiw, there are men and often full on cowboys (TX) getting their nails done every time we go.

Oh yeah grandpa loves pedicures! He goes with his daughter once a month. Honestly it's great because is a low key way of helping someone who can't really do certain self care like caring for your feet, while also getting to sit back and relax. After decades of hard work it's hard to turn down a good foot soak and massage. He was hooked after his first visit.

Eta let this be a lesson to any younger guys who think it's not their thing. Get a pedicure.

I'm almost 70 and I treat myself to the occasional pedicure. I've always hated clipping my toenails (as horrified former lovers can attest).

u/zombie_overlord 1d ago

Yes - gramps should totally do it if he's able! That would be legendary

Jesus for $120,000?! Get him up there

13

u/Sumthin-Sumthin44692 1d ago

…college scholarship. Idk about you, but when I’m 94, I hope school is not on my “to do” list.

u/Mant- 18h ago

Grandpa implies grandkids 🤷‍♂️ pass down that cash pops

Mirrors and dementia.

u/ken_NT 1d ago

It was really brave of them to talk about their bowel troubles during the question and answer part of the pageant.

Letters like this were one of my first introductions to scams. (I believe the actual first was my dad telling me I could not put quarters in the claw machine cause “they’ll just steal your money.”)

I got one as a preteen and I’m pretty sure it originated from my mom allowing me to sign up to get the American girl catalog.

I was partly excited when I got the letter but I also didn’t have a great self-esteem and that made me suspicious why they would want me for a pageant. My mom explained to me that the same thing went on when she was younger in the 70s at malls and that they basically were trying to sell headshot services as well as other various pageant training type services. Some of them are also just pay to participate type pageants who will take anybody with the cash.

I remember feeling really bad at the fact I figured there were probably kids that thought they could’ve been in a pageant but their parents said no and ruined it for them.🤣

u/Other-Cantaloupe4765 1d ago

Lmao. My sister did those National American Miss pageants like over a decade ago. We still occasionally reference a few portions of their talent show because it was so bad. Some of those girls were very talented, and others… had not found their talent yet lol. And it’s all on tape! Imagine being a pre-teen and giving the worst talent show performance ever and having it live on for eternity in a tape owned by a shit ton of people. Ouch. 😂

10

u/Golbez89 1d ago

He should ABSOLUTELY go to one of these!

8

u/JoeWhy2 1d ago

At least he doesn't have to wear a bathing suit on stage. Sounds legit to me.

4

u/quartzquandary 1d ago

Go for it, Grandpa!

4

u/sesamesnapsinhalf 1d ago

3

3

u/brando56894 1d ago

I love when these things happen. I was sent an AARP (American Association of Retired People) membership card when I was about 25 and hadn't even gotten my first full-time job yet.

3

u/PandorasFlame1 1d ago

AARP has open enrollment to anyone over the age of 18

1

u/CheezeLoueez08 1d ago

Why?

1

u/PandorasFlame1 1d ago

No idea. I'm sure that info is on their FAQ page tho.

3

u/eve2eden 1d ago

Please make him go

I'm a guy, but I have a name that can be used by both males and females (think "Jamie" or similar). When I was about 14 years old, my two best friends signed me up for the "Little Miss Hometown" pageant in our city. I remember being home one night and getting a call from someone on behalf of the pageant asking if they could "speak to Jamie's parents" and I was like "well I'm Jamie, what's this about a 'little miss' pageant?"

They were a bit confused at first because the pageant was meant for 5-7 year old girls, but then we figured it out and both had a good laugh. I asked about potential prize money, but then ultimately declined competing. I'm still close friends with those two knucklehead guys 35 years later. Don't see either of them as much as I'd like, but I do actually get to hang out with one of them this weekend. I'm going to bring up this story and remind him of our childhood shenanigans.

u/getoffmylawnn86 1h ago

that’s cook man thanks for sharing. Glad my post could bring up that nice memory

2

u/FuckThisShizzle 1d ago

He should do it, skirt just short enough that his old man balls hang out.

If it goes tits up and the cops are called he can just claim senility.

I got one of these yesterday saying my daughter has been selected. There’s no way I’d ever put her through that.

u/Simple_Anteater_5825 1d ago

Make sure to go with him and stay near, just in case Trump owns that one too.
