I’d go over twelve percent for that

People downvoting this are taking it way too seriously.

I'm British, best they get is a silent nod and firm handshake.

People downvoting this haven't seen Reservoir Dogs

Hell yes he would

This is a true act of fast courage to save that man's life. My son in Denver is mourning the loss of his friend last week or so because he choked. Don't go to the bathroom or private place when you are choking. Live.

1

  1. Bartender fast as fuck

  2. He would’ve been getting every bit of cash I had on me as a tip lol

u/TheObliviousYeti 2d ago

I have a muscle dystrophy that effects my swallowing so I can choke on like a single grain of rice the amount of time j almost choked on shit is insane. It was embarrassing at first and now I just hope somebody is around so I don't die from a single grain of rice

1

u/Prettymuchnever 1d ago

That’s very cool but dang why does it cost $140 to save your life lol

1

u/Verittan 1d ago

It is expensive but it is a Made in the USA, FDA Registered, medical device. $140 isn't much in the long run and that price is little if it meant saving my own or another's life.

Jessie: "Prepare for trouble!"

James: "And make it double!"

Jessie: "To protect the world from devastation!"

James: "... is that guy experiencing suffocation?"

Damn, I needed that laugh. 😂

admittedly it looked like the person with the R jacket was going to try to help but the bartender took over before they had a chance to process what was going on

My friend and I were at a bar where a girl started choking and by the time the bartender got there she was able to get whatever it was out by puking on the floor. We felt so bad for her and kept telling her not to be embarrassed, that we were all relieved she was okay but she got a box for her food and the bill shortly after and bounced. I can see how it’s embarrassing but I’d rather that than die at a random pub.

u/el_americano 2d ago

...and then everybody clapped

6

u/dya_likeDags 2d ago

so… no hug?

76

u/Gabe1985 2d ago

That would be so embarrassing. I could literally never go to that bar again

That's how most people die from choking. They feel embarrassed and go to the restroom instead of seeking help.

At an old job one of our clients checked in at the receptionist. She told me after the fact that he was a little unsteady on his feet and was clutching his chest. He said he wasn’t feeling well so he went into the men’s room to collect himself.

I came across him about 30 minutes later when I went into the restroom. He was sprawled on the floor in one of the stalls. He had passed away.

21

u/Exact_Mastodon_7803 2d ago

That certainly reads more like a heart attack… although I get your point about not seeking help…

6

u/Chocolate_Bourbon 1d ago

That’s what the paramedics thought too. Probably a heart attack.

Used to work in a diner with government assisted old folks apartments upstairs. One day a guy came in real shaky and slow, left his things on his table and went towards the bathroom. He made it just around the corner when he collapsed and turned purple. My boss resuscitated him. Ambulance came and took him to the hospital. His visiting family still had breakfast as they wheeled him out. I wish they didn't.

My coworker started choking and ran out of the office because he was embarrassed. I ran after him to help and he was throwing himself onto a stair railing to get it out. He was successful, thank god. It was an intense moment.

25

u/ImJ2001 2d ago

I'd go to the bar every day. They got my back.

5

u/PussSlurpee 1d ago

“Heyyy, it’s Up Chuck!”

34

u/BeckyLynchIsBetter 2d ago

Almost dying is embarrassing? I think it's metal, especially if you don't die.

-7

u/Gabe1985 2d ago

Almost dying of not chewing my food properly is pretty embarrassing

32

u/Ancient_Confusion237 2d ago

Actually dying because you're too proud to ask for help after a mistake is even more embarrassing.

People can choke for heaps of reasons beyond not chewing properly, especially when alcohol is involved.

15

u/Extreme_Design6936 2d ago

Yeah but if I died from choking I definitely wouldn't be going back to that bar again.

-4

u/indrek91 2d ago

If you died you would go to grave. Bruh.

2

u/Stripotle_Grill 1d ago

people would rather die than speak in front of a crowd

2

u/diazinth 2d ago

Shit happens. If you haven’t noticed, your body is made of human and other bits. Those bits can be quite fallible, being made of flesh and other mostly organic stuff. And the design principle behind the bits have been “throwing stuff at the wall and see what survives”

10

u/Stalaktitas 2d ago

I would go to that bar as long as that bartender would be working there, literally

1

u/Jollan_ 1d ago

Survival of the smartest...

1

u/unit156 1d ago

You’d be fine. It happened at a bar. People are going to struggle the next day to remember how they got into whatever bed they find them selves in. They deserve prize if they can remember a quick choking incident.

4

u/Tatsuya-Uzumaki 2d ago

Not in my bar you don’t!! I have enough people haunting this place at night and they aren’t even dead.

5

u/ImJ2001 2d ago

Damn that's a real life hero.

4

u/ighstrder 2d ago

But if you do this naked EVERYONE looks at you weird...fucked up times we live in 😞

u/Nayroy18 2d ago

From an olive

In case you ever find yourself in this situation, recent research has changed things a bit -- back blows are generally recommended to be tried before abdominal thrusts according to most standards, as they tend to be safer.

You can find more information here: American Red Cross

u/koos_die_doos 1d ago edited 1d ago

Thanks for sharing!

To give back blows:

  • Position yourself to the side and slightly behind the person. For a small child, you may need to kneel behind them.
  • Place one arm diagonally across their chest.
  • Bend them forward at the waist so the upper body is parallel to the ground.
  • Firmly strike them between the shoulder blades 5 times with the heel of the hand.
  • Have each back blow be separate from the others.

How do I give abdominal thrusts?

  • Have the person stand up straight.
  • Find their navel with two fingers.
  • Move behind them; place your front foot in between their feet, bending your knees slightly. For a small child, you may need to kneel behind them.
  • Make a fist with your other hand.
  • Place the thumb side against their stomach, above your fingers.
  • Take your first hand and cover your fist with it.
  • Pull inward and upward 5 times.
  • Make each abdominal thrust forceful and separate from the other.

Good job

1

u/coded_artist 1d ago

Heroes don't wear capes.

1

u/poelzi 1d ago

Fun fact: Heimlich maneuver, the one he performed saved Heimlich's life after he choked himself. That's a forward thinking invention

1

u/Urban-Junglist 1d ago

Great reaction time

1

u/ti2_mon 1d ago

It makes me laugh when i see people clap after incidents like these 🤣

1

u/chicken_frango 1d ago

A polite round of applause seemed appropriate given the situation

1

u/Happy_Resource_7985 1d ago

He didn’t even hesitate to respond. This is one of the best instincts humans can have in this day and age.

1

u/LuckyHearing1118 1d ago

Ok back to getting drunk

1

u/Educational_Owl_6671 1d ago

I bet a billionaire would never save the life of a peasant

1

u/Maybbaybee 2d ago

Probably left a negative review on Yelp.

0

u/KillaHydro 2d ago

I wonder how much he tipped him.

1

u/ighstrder 2d ago

About Tree-Fiddy..........

0

u/DumptyDance 2d ago

If he does it for 5 minutes, you know the bartender really likes you. Wink.

0

u/Responsible-Gas5319 2d ago

If he doesn't tip enough the bartender can choke him

0

u/Spirited_Praline637 2d ago

Did those closer to him not notice, or were they just useless?

0

u/xChargerSx 2d ago

Genius if they were a crew working together.

-1

u/Frequent_Initial_419 2d ago

More Wes Watson trash

1

u/Salty-Passenger-4801 2d ago

What does this have to do with Wes?

1

Calm it down, my Salty friend. It was a joke.
