Brave-ass work.

the video is 3:33 but at that rate the fire is out surely by 4 minutes.
that's really cool how fast it goes out.

The more flames are extinguished, the harder it gets to see. And it's going to feel like you are standing way too close to a bonfire. They have to fight that survival instinct telling them to get the hell out of there.
Tough, dangerous job.

That's bloody hot in there, you can hear the dude emptying that airtank.
Great work, no mercy for that fire lol

So disorientating , terrifying

u/Solvemprobler369 22h ago
To me that looks fucking awesome. Especially if there is someone to save. I honestly regret never trying to become a firefighter. I’m 42F and do volunteer search and rescue to get my ‘gotta save people’ kicks but man, I would have loved that job.
6
u/Gogglesed 22h ago
That's what I'm thinking. This looks like the kind of thing I could have gotten into doing.
7
u/Dzbot1234 22h ago
Glad there are some people willing to do it, I don’t think I am one of them
3
u/Gogglesed 22h ago
I might just turn around and run when I felt the heat, but if I stayed cool enough and was strong enough to handle the equipment, it looks like a very satisfying job.

u/Degtyrev 13h ago
If you're in/near a small town, volunteer! We need hundreds of volunteers. I've been at it 5 years and love every second of it!

My uncle is a firefighter and he and my brother (who was going into paramedics at the time) had some light banter about the other profession.
"Firefighters run into burning buildings, while everyone else runs out."
"True, but, firefighters save buildings, while paramedics save lives."
-18
u/DrRichardHeadPHD 1d ago
Wow. What a fucked up take, as if firefighters don't save people from literally burning to death. Slap your brother, then slap yourself for just posting that and letting it sit as if it were the truth.
18
u/Anonawesome1 1d ago
Tell me you've never had friends to banter without telling me.
-15
u/DrRichardHeadPHD 1d ago
Tell me you've never had anyone belittle your profession under the guise of "I'm just joking!" without telling me.
10
u/MattBladesmith 1d ago
It was never meant to be belittling, they were jokingly one-upping each other. No one was offended or upset. Everyone had a good laugh.
3
u/Randalf_the_Black 11h ago
Firefighters and paramedics/EMT's often work together, they respect each other, even if they can banter at times.

Serious question. The entire building is engulfed, there's truly no saving it, so why risk your life trying to put it out and having the roof collapse when preventing the fire from spreading on the outside should be the main priority? EDIT: Firefighters are brave af and I respect and appreciate them. I truly just don't understand the calculated risk here.
10
u/slushpubbie 1d ago
Could be other buildings nearby that they wouldn't want the fire to spread to. Also I'm pretty sure the roof was just sheets of corrugated metal and has already collapsed
4
u/Zakkattack86 1d ago
If that's the case then wouldn't a ladder from above and on the outside of the building be the best solution?

u/Maiyku 15h ago
I think someone mentioned in another comment that it looks like a training fire. They said basically the same, they wouldn’t send firefighters into a risk like this for no reason and no one to save.
I know they do these drills too because my local firehouse has a practice structure right behind it. All the local FDs use it for training.
Always a little scary seeing that smoke rise up in town… check the town FB page… yup, FD training. Lol.

Im really starting to appreciate POV videos of people at work. Really makes me appreciate more their hard work! Thank you firefighters!
6
u/NiftyJet 22h ago
Imagine how hot it must be in there when you spray something with a shit load of water and then it just ignites again almost immediately.
3
u/Fraxis_Quercus 1d ago
What is the reason to go into such a building? Looking for victims? The building and it's contents seem lost anyway. There is even the risk of a (partial) collapse.
Impressive vid though!
5
u/northsouthu47 1d ago
Every building is considered occupied until proven otherwise. The only reason it wouldn’t be entered is if it’s too dangerous fire personnel. This building is well ventilated and easy to get in a put out. Exterior firefighting can’t reach all the hot spots within the building so entry is the fastest most efficient way.

I thought they mostly allow fires like this to go down by itself and mainly prevent spreading to surrounding structures.
I assume the only reason to send firefighters inside an active fire like this is if they are sure there's someone alive beyond this room (there's definitely no one alive inside the room we see in the video)
2
u/toooomanypuppies 23h ago
this is why so many firefighters are ex-military. the type of people who know how to use fear as a motivator and just charge headfirst into danger.
absolutely superheros we do not deserve.

Always do side swiggles or circular swiggles. Up and down swiggles doesn’t do shit.
Sauce: gardener.. well used too… growing up.. when I misbehaved.
All jokes aside. I Would love to do this job.

Why is the nozzle so focused, why not a more broad fan'd spray
13
u/cbell6889 1d ago
It allows the firefighter to target fire further away and penetrate into the source. If it's too fanned you won't actually hit the source and put out the fire.
10
u/DrothReloaded 1d ago
He is using a smooth bore nozzle (Non-adjustable). Better used at range for more accurate penetration, .. not typically something we would want to use in that close of a firefight. Fog nozzles are better suited for close range as they are adjustable.
1
u/myst3r10us_str4ng3r 18h ago
It looks like firefighter #2 got really overly close to the spray as well.
2
u/LucasCBs 23h ago
This is wildly unsafe and entirely pointless. Under no circumstances would a firefighter get into this situation in Germany. The entire building is engulfed, there is no saving that. The only priority should have been to keep the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings. There is no reason to put his life in danger like that

Is it just me or does it look extremely satisfying to put the flames out? Makes me want to try it

Isn't the water jet extremely high pressure ? The way the other firefighers are walking seemingly quite casually close to the jet stream, isn't it super risky ? I mean like being caught in crossfire ?

This is the kinda thing if I saw it at 6yo I would want to be a firefighter. This looks badass

u/sKratch1337 1d ago
Damn I should've become a fire fighter, this is so right up my alley. But being first to the scene after a car crash and trying to wrestler free dead kids etc. Would probably break me so fast. Shame there isn't a position where I could only fight fires and not have to handle dead pets and people. Respect to fire fighters for dealing with all that shit.
5
u/MadderHatter32 23h ago
It was the hardest physical training I’ve ever done and the most rewarding but you are absolutely right about being broken by hurt kids. A hurt baby on the highway wasn’t my last run but it was the beginning of the end.

u/Following-Complete 1d ago
I wanted to be a firefighter so bad when i was young, but then i realised im fat and lazy.
3
u/sKratch1337 23h ago
Hey, at least you realized it before instead of during a massive fire with 50 kg of gear on you. I'd say that's a win.
2
u/Following-Complete 18h ago
Well tbh i ended up going to the army despite being fat and lazy so you can add stupid aswell to the list of my traits.

Am I the only one thinking this looks super fun? Dangerous, sure. But the adrenaline, the high stakes, the satisfaction of what you're doing, helping people etc.
Of course only a small part of the job though.

Bombeiro é uma das profissões que eu acho mais foda. Tipo, os cara olham um prédio pegando fogo e explodindo e falam “alguém tem que fazer isso”, daí eles entram, apagam o fogo, salvam as pessoas e pronto.

Knowing it’s not Hollywood makes that pretty scary to me. I have great appreciation for firefighters, they saved my house when I caught it on fire.
The other thing that surprises me is I just assumed there’d be alot more water coming out of that hose.
