He's pretty cool. Pretty chill. Wants us to be cool and think about things rationally. Also doesn't threaten to wipe us all out for not worshipping him right

The biblical Satan isn't really a foil to YHWH.  They are more the prosecuting authority that works with YHWH that Jesus seems to have superceded.

In what way did Lucifer/Satan punish or "prosecute" God's authority? That would have been Michael, Gabriel and the other angels that bore God's wrath upon man.

Lucifer was a fan of Man, leading us to the Tree of Knowledge so that we rose above being merely God's favorite pet. He test Jesus, gave him the opportunity to be his own man, and not go into his Father's business of keeping Men blind and stupid.

It isn't prosecuting God's authority, it is prosecuting and accusing mankind based on God's laws.  This is of course my conjecture based on the name "ha-satan" being accuser/adversary along with the first chapters of Job where Satan reports to God then proceeds to accuse Job.  Also Jesus' temptation in the desert is not very empowering he questions Jesus' identity twice and then asks him to bow to to Satan.  I don't see where you see that as an opportunity that's good.

Not sure where you are getting the Lucifer being a fan of man, do you have a writing that you can point to that says that?  Remember, Satan, the Devil, Lucifer, and the Serpent are not necessarily the same entity.  Also, there are the fallen angels described in the Book of Enoch that could also be in the picture, namely the fallen angel Azazel.  All this to say, none of these entities seem to show beneficial attitudes to mankind.  Instead, they seem to be using mankind as a pawn in their own purposes.

I obviously don't believe in a literal Satan but I like that he fought against arbitrary authority and engaged in a battle he knew he couldn't win for what he believed. That takes guts, he's like the original martyr before Jesus

Lucifer, Prometheus, maybe Loki and Coyote, etc. all are cast as bad and evil for interfering with the Gods plans for man. They gave Man fire, knowledge and the idea of self-determination over slavish devotion to their alleged Creators.

They are the Good Guys in my book. Look how evil Christians and Muslims, et al, actually are!

You and I probably have different definitions of Satan.  The Hebrew entity "ha-satan" just seems like an entity that tests mankind, doesn't really seem to be opposing authority either.  Check out the first two chapters in the book of Job for instance.

I'm familiar with the book of Job yes, where God tortures Job to win a bet against Satan. A rather odd piece of literature. When I say opposing authority I meant more in his original fall from heaven for defying God

Sounds like you haven't read Job in a while, Satan did those actions you attribute to God.  Also, you might be mixing up Lucifer and Satan, they are not necessarily the same entity.  That fall from heaven can probably relate to the Watchers in the book of Enoch.  They don't really seem that great either.

Which incarnation are we talking? We got the serpent in the garden, we got the roving monitor of Job, Lucifer the rebellious angel, the Temptor of Christ, the roaring, devouring lion, the Beast. Depending on your flavor of theology, we may have great differences of definition.

Exactly.  Most people loop Satan, Lucifer, and the Devil together.  Satan's Hebrew name "ha-satan" means the accuser or adversary so it is just strange that people think the entity who opposes and tests mankind is something else.

Yep I often think Satan is the prosecuting attorney role for God's law.  Satan might also be represented by the older brother in the prodigal son story.
