I'm wondering how he even managed to back the truck into the driveway based on how icy it looks

Yea ups ain’t spending money on winter tires. They just have super knobby almost mud looking tires that are straight trash.

u/Allaplgy 3d ago
That entirely depends on the area. The absolutely do in places where it is mandatory, like Quebec. And generally do in places where it is essentially necessary. Places that might see a bit of snow or ice every year or so might, but also likely just get chains.

Chains are even asking a lot depending on location. Even where it may be required.

u/Allaplgy 3d ago
It can definitely vary. But you are definitely getting chains in places they are required. Actually putting them on? That's up to the driver.
1
u/potatocross 3d ago
I can tell you from experience not always getting chains in places it’s required.

You've been made to drive over mountain passes with chain controls on with no chains? That's highly illegal and should have been reported. And stupid as hell, because, again a $100 set of chains is a lot cheaper than a lost truck and a lawsuit for negligent homicide.

Winter tires don’t do much for ice unless they’re studded

u/Allaplgy 3d ago
Modern studless tires can perform as good or better than studded tires on ice. I've also definitely seen delivery trucks on studded tires, so that's a possibility, depending on locale.

That’s horseshit, sorry. No tire, winter or not, is outperforming studded or chained on ice. Snow, wet or dry is a different matter.

u/Allaplgy 3d ago
It depends on the tire. Some studded tires are worse than some studless. Sure, a very good studded tire is going to outperform a studless, but a good studless will outperform an ok studded tire. I've got quite a lot of experience on just about every condition of snow and ice in mountainous terrain on many different tires in many different vehicles. Quality studless can definitely outperform a mediocre or otherwise non-optimal studded tire, but yes, a quality studded tire will outgrip a comparable studless. That also does not mean the studless does not perform fine in most conditions.
I would absolutely take a set of studless Himalayas over studded Bighorns, even though both are mountain/flake rated. The knobby fuckers are essentially useless on ice and hardpack, studs or not.

Dunno why youre getting downvoted lmao. Studded is absolutely the best in snow.

I don't know... seemed pretty safe to me. Instead of walking up a slippery slope, he slid it to someone waiting. Then slid on his butt to safely get to his vehicle.

Meanwhile, in sunny July my UPS driver will drop my packages at the end of the driveway nearly in the road.

You gotta watch out for the dangerous black ice, it’s transparent and sneaky. Hard to see black ice. It’s scary, tricky, ruthless that black ice. Perfectly safe neighborhood can be suddenly terrorized by the appearance of black ice.

This man was a curler in his previous life.
Homeowner should've used a broom at least!

When it's icy like that....I do not step outside.
Nothing is worth all the bad things that could happen.

I'd call the company and get him fired. Inexcusable mishandling a package like that, absolutely disgusting behavior.
