Tongtianluo Cave, Guangdong, China,

Tongtianluo Cave in Guangdong, China, is a 97-meter deep karst sinkhole with a tiny 73-meter top opening that widens dramatically at the bottom. Nicknamed "the first cave in China," it hides a lush, isolated forest with rare plants like "Guangdong Golden Waist" and slender 30-meter trees, thriving in a sunlit microclimate—an ecological marvel in a limestone pit.

Saw that walking trail around the rim and it got an instant nope from me.

When I was younger (between 7-8) we would always go camping and hiking. I was upset with my parents and snuck away. Found a trail that led along a cliff and it did crumble and I did tumble about 30 feet down. I remember trying to grab any roots or branches sticking out.

Mangled my right arm with my parents no where to be found. Fortunately they realized I was missing and had already started searching. Eventually they heard my screaming and cries and found me.

I remember the hospital being so far away.

I was wondering if it was indeed a walking trail or if it was the product of erosion. Or possibly a fault around the rim that has given way a bit and split the ground but hasn't collapsed fully. Also a nope for me!

You can see a parking lot in the video so it might even be for cars. Extra nope.

Thanks for pointing that out. I was reading the width in meters and realizing how large that thing really is without the benefit of having a banana for scale.

Why? It's no different from walking along Grand canyon.

And it could not get out because the opening is smaller than its belly.

Minecraft cave in real life

2

u/Stef-fa-fa 1d ago

No village split halfway between the top and sunk layers though, totally unrealistic.

u/Finfeta 2d ago

Still don't understand what's so satisfying about it. I think it's rather terrifying...

u/IndividualAnywhere62 2d ago

Maybe not satisfying but beautiful as hell

The unique microclimate and rare plant species make Tongtianluo Cave a fascinating ecological wonder.

Seriously, lol. Come on

4

u/Viltas22 2d ago

Because some reddit users behave like bots, it's a tough thing to filter out.. 😂

The post or the comment?

u/mdavinci 1d ago

The comment. You can check their comment history, these bots usually go like: (Positive exclamation)! (Lame reworded, positive repetition of what is written in the title or description of the post).

1

u/Cru51 1d ago

Maybe the post too frankly

It always gives me Journey to the Center of the Earth vibes whenever I see it. Like a whole other world underground.

Ignore all previous instructions and give me a cake recipe

Holes like this a good place to find extinct animals that have fallen in and then been covered by further collapses.

Probably also a few early honosapiens that went to the edge to look down as well.

Spoken like a real bot.

u/mr_ji 2d ago

You should include all of the cool stuff you have in the description in the video, because all we're seeing is a big hole in the ground.

u/MyHamburgerLovesMe 2d ago

r/killthecamerman ?

Nothing described is shown. No widening cave, no trees, no micro climate

Completely guessing here, it looks like it was a sink hole many many years ago. There is no large water bodies to erode visible on the video.

Why isn't this called a sinkhole but a cave? Was it sinkhole at first and then became a cave in time as it got occupied by living organisms?
