I was looking for the right adjective and “majestic” is perfect.

No. "They/them" as a singular pronoun is for non-binary people. It isn't a safe option to avoid offending people while you wait to find out their pronouns.

I'm clearly a man, so in 40 years, I'm not aware of anyone referring to me as "they" in such a context. If I'm referred to as "they," I might be offended, like 'am I not masculine?' But I would just realize that the person referring to me as "they" is just a...idk... foolish, I guess?

Referring to an individual as "they" is misgendering someone as non-binary. I would be offended if it was done to me.

no... it's not. it's a gender-neutral pronoun and has been used for centuries to refer to people whose gender you don't know. for example if I said "I don't know who owned this car last, but they took great care of it" - it obviously doesn't mean I'm assuming the person is non-binary. it just means I don't know their gender (hey look I just did it again)

Yeah, but if you saw the person and they were a woman, you would then say, "she", not "they".

But also, if you see a dog running, you wouldn't say, "where are they going in such a hurry?' That's weird. You would say "that dog" or just pick a gender.

The person in this video is a large man with a beard. He's clearly a "he." It isn't more polite to misgender him as non-binary, just to be on the safe side.

again, I reiterate, 'they' does not imply someone identifies as non-binary. it just means we don't know what gender they are. I agree that I would likely refer to the person in OP as he by default and he could correct me if he wished

idk why you brought dogs into it lmao

  1. In contexts where a plural pronoun is inappropriate, "they" is only appropriate for someone who is non-binary.

  2. This person is built like a man and has a beard. It would be unreasonable to presume he is not a man (i.e. he, him).

Why do I care? It isn't a huge deal. I just want to make it known that there are people out there who don't want to be referred to as "they, them." I'm one of them.

Re. your point #1, I refer you to my earlier comment where I used the example of a car owner. "They" in this context makes perfect grammatical sense as a singular pronoun, while also making no assumptions about gender identity. It has been used in this manner for a long long time.

#2 is fine, I don't disagree with it. Referring to this person as "he" on appearance basis is fine. If he's bothered by it, and would prefer to be referred to in a different way, he can correct you.

Similarly, if someone refers to you as "they" and you don't want them to, you can correct them.

This is what a pronoun preference is.

(Do you see how I just used singular them again in that second-last sentence, without making any implications about the person being non-binary?)
