Brutal Critique I don't love it. What do you think?
I'm in-between block in and detailing layers. I'm trying to be more expressive but Idk if it's working. 🤷♀️

My first painting using gouache
Painted the Grand Canyon using a photo reference I took a few years back. Tried to incorporate David Hockney's art style into this piece as a requirement for my painting class; I'm painting a landscape series using his style as inspiration. Really happy with how it came out and I'm really loving gouache now!

Acrylic as a Medium
The reference photo is one I took from my car somewhere in the middle of the U.S. The dramatic sky and abandoned building caught my eye.
I’m pretty new to using acrylic paints. I’m more of a pen-and-ink or pencil person. I like some parts of the piece, but I don’t like it overall.
I would appreciate any hints on what I could have done with it. Thank you!

After sketching, I ground my panel with a reddish orange mix of Azo Gold and Satin Glazing Liquid from Golden.

Amateur needing some advice please
I have been stuck on this painting for a long time as I wasn’t sure how to deal with the background - should I just copy what I have in my original photo? Or should I just throw in a background colour like what I did, but what colour should I use?
I didn’t think it through when I did the initial sketch (I should’ve put my cat in the centre of the painting). It’s too late for me to change it now cuz I spent too much time perfecting my cat 🥹
Any advice would be appreciated.
