seals the drawing so it doesn't mix with the paint colors

Thanks, that's what I assumed, but I wanted to be sure. I was never taught this method, but it looks much simpler than what I was taught and far less time consuming. My teachers also focused entirely on Oil, so I never worked very much with acrylics at all except for the first underpainting.
