Discussion Anyone a fan of Zebra? F-301 is my daily driver at work

Post image

Just joined the sub today but have always appreciated a good pen. Been a huge fan of Zebra pens for a while now, but haven’t really come across any posts while browsing the sub. Any folks enjoy the F-301 as much as I do? Got a big ziplock full of refills too so I won’t have to worry about running out of ink for a good while😂 Noticed that people in this sub tend to prefer pens with a thicker barrel, but I feel as though the slimmer barrel on the F-301 encourages me to write more consciously and therefore I tend to have better penmanship with it. That might just be a me thing 🤷🏽‍♂️

Why I bring my own pens to work. Mind you, I work security in a NICE professional building. Good thing I have 3 Sharpies a dead Bic Roller, and a crappy disposable mechanical pencil for my reports and tenant clients! 😂

(Sorry if the picture is low quality I don't have the best phone)

The zebra is great it's thick body is comfortable to grip with my bigger hands and it's nice and heavy. The ink is alright at best I wish it was darker but it is very smooth which I do like.

The Parker jotter does look nice and the ink is very good for what im used to but I hate the pen body it's so thin it's like in trying to write with a toothpick. I hope I can get used to the thinness because right now I feel like it was a waste of money

Question Leaking Staedtler ballpoint pens

Post image
4 Upvotes

I bought these Staedtler ballpoint pens for sketching and doodling because I liked the colors and believed the brand, but they are all leaking (leaving dots of ink along the line) since day one.

I don't see any mechanical defects, and I store them properly (as usually recommended online).

Did anyone else had similar experience, and are there any ways to influence this kind of problem?

$14 on Amazon. It's the roller model. Not ready to take the jump into fountains yet.

The refill seems to write well, I wasn't expecting much from some.of the reviews I've read. Was planning on modding it to run a nice gel or Uni PowerTank.

My wife said I have a problem. I reminded her this is cheaper and takes up far less space than other hobbies/collections. Plus I'm in school and studying for a promotional exam at work, I need good pens, pencils, and highlighters. LoL

Discussion Is there really a big difference between SXR-600-05 and 07?

Upvotes

To preface I do not like gel pens, so I am not used to the extra thick lines that they put down compared to ballpoints.

I ordered some SXR-600-05 for my rotring 600 that are being delivered today.

I see much more praise for the .7mm but I could only find them for $8+ for a single refill! I was able to find a pack of the .5mm for 3.85 per refill.

Will I really be missing out on those .2mm? Is it worth an extra $5 per cartridge?

Side note: I also wanted to sarcastically thank you guys! I found this sub and have spent $100 on Rotrings, refills and notebooks in the past week!

Question Recommend me a new pen to pair with my new Leuchtturm1917 A6? Wanting solid feeling pen body and refills that lay down solid, even, crisp lines. :)

Hi! I'm new-ish to the idea of using refillable pens and am looking for something nice to treat myself with. I have historically loved writing with pigment/fine liners, but I don't like to put wear on my art fine liner tips with daily journaling and they also don't come with nice, metal/non-plasticky bodies.

When it comes to the body, I prefer something on the girthier side, with a decent amount of heft. Would love something with zero plastic. Capped or bolt action would be nice so I don't have to worry about it clicking open in my bag or pocket. Also I would like something short enough to comfortably fit in the pen loop of an A6 pocket size notebook. I have very small hands so while I like it to be girthy, I don't mind if it's fairly short.

In terms of ink/refills: this is the part I'm new to and the part I'm struggling with. For some reason, the way that a lot of ballpoint pens leave inconsistent, streaky, or "sketchy" lines really bothers me. I love crisp, flat, solid lines. I print in all caps and love the neat, solid lines I get writing with my Staedtler Pigment Liners, but in terms of EDC, I worry about wearing out the tips, plus they aren't refillable nor do they have nice bodies. I'm totally open to gel, rollerball, etc, but I don't know which of those will give me that "markeresque" flat, bold, solid line - preferably without being bleedy, smudgy, or slow-drying.

Any links to writing demonstrations with different types of refills is also greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for any and all help! :)

Question Help finding a good pen

Hey so I have some really important exams coming up for essay based subjects. I have a condition where my hand hurts and cramps up after not much writing at all, which is why I have been given permission to type most of these exams. However I have to write my Spanish exam since you can’t really get accents with a computer keyboard in a way which isn’t time consuming. My question is, what is the absolute easiest pen to write with in terms of not needing much pressure to be put onto the page? Any recommendations for ones that you find super easy to write with over extended periods? Thanks guys

I found this fun little retractable gel ink at the college bookstore. Idk what the name of it is but it has a fun retracting mechanism for fidgety people: push down on end (blue) to write and push on top part of clip (white) to retract. Satisfying tactile experience and (to a lesser extent) sound.

The ink color is the same as the exterior so a little different shade of blue. Also the grip is better on this style than the other Writech pen I have.

Question Looking for a Classy, Reliable Everyday Pen – Fountain or Rollerball?

Hi everyone!

I’m currently in school and use a Pilot Frixion 0.7 for my daily writing. After the summer, I’ll be starting high school, and I’m looking to upgrade to something sturdier and more elegant that I can carry with me and write with all day.

I haven’t decided yet whether I want a fountain pen or a rollerball. I love the classic look and feel of fountain pens, but I’m guessing rollerballs might be more practical for everyday school use. I’ve mostly been looking at Parker and Pilot since I like their more dressy and timeless designs. I’ve also checked out Lamy, but I’m not a big fan of their aesthetic.

So I’m wondering:

  • Should I go for a fountain pen or a rollerball, considering I’ll be writing a lot and carrying it around all day?
  • Which brand offers the best quality for the money?
  • My budget is around $70.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations or advice!

Picture Sampler pack

Post image

My local Kinokuniya turned 5 earlier this year and gave away a tote bag with pen samples to customers who hit a certain purchase threshold. I don't use any of these as my daily driver (I'm a Muji .38 girlie) so it actually worked out well as a sampler to mix things up. The breakdown: *Sarasa clip 05 (vintage colors blue gray?) *Pilot G-2 07 *Gelly roll 08 retractable (stardust purple star) *Gelly roll 10 (white) *Kuretake Karappo-pen (came empty with Pilot ama-iro ink to fill yourself, I went a little overboard as a first-timer with this kind of pen) Personal preference, I think I like the feel of the Sarasa clip over the Pilot G-2 (but could happily use either). I'm a long-time Gelly roll user for art, moreso the white and moonlight pens than the stardust line. The biggest surprise was the Karappo-pen, I wouldn't have thought to try it if not for the sample, but I really like writing with it. I would've chosen a darker ink for daily use (it's a mid/light blue) but the size and smoothness are spot on.

Question Ballpen recommendations with vibrant ink

Could anyone recommend me a true ballpoint pen ink with vibrant ink? I have to sit an exam and they do not allow gel pens and such so I am looking for ballpoint pen specifically, but I find that a lot of the ballpens I've tried are not as vibrant as compared to rollerball pens. I'm looking for any 0.7mm ballpens specifically. Thank you in advance!

Discussion The Affordable Ballpoint of My Dreams

Post image

I've been writing/journaling by hand for 30 years. How am I just now finding the Anterique Mach 0.7?!

I didn't think it was possible for a retractable ballpoint to not rattle. It's the reason I've stayed away from them, I can't stand a rattley pen. I've been using an Olight Mini 2 for a while but I really don't care for the thick line-width since my handwriting is pretty small. It tends to get blurry or messy unless I intentionally write larger than usual.

Stumbled upon a review for these babies by The Gentleman Stationer which specifically mentions that they write a pretty fine line and don't rattle at all - so had to pick one up to try.

I'm instantly obsessed! It's nice and light, well sized for my small hands, doesn't make a sound unless I specifically shake it vertically while the tip is deployed, did I mention it's refillable?-- and at less than $6USD?! Going back to order a ton more colors now!! 🙌🏻

For a few years now, I've been on the hunt for the perfect pen to carry with me all the time, in my pocket, as part of my EDC. So far, I haven't found it yet. I have 3 more pens at my office and another one on its way ! 😄

Right now, my favorite is the "Zebra Sarasa Grand, 0.5mm," but I feel like it still isn't quite the one. I'm always open to suggestions for other great pens to try!

List of pens in the picture (from top to bottom)

On the left

-Zebra 301-A 0.7mm

-Pelikan Snap K10 0.7mm

-Zebra F-701 ‎0.5mm

-ICO 70 D60 0.8mm

-Zebra F-402 0.7mm

On the right

-Montegrappa Parola 0.7mm

-Zebra Sarasa Grand 0.5mm

Question Why do these G2s write differently?

Post image

So I bought this black pilot G2 because I liked the way this other pen at the house wrote. As far as I can see , they’re identical, but the white one writes a lot smoother!
