Whether youāre on the sub because your entire flock suddenly looks haggard and you care about them or you need some knowledge when a jerk harasses you about them being ādirtyā or ādiseasedā and you wonder for a second if they have a point once some of them really do start looking like The Walking Deadā¦ Donāt worry! The pigeons are still okay if they otherwise seem chipper beyond their appearance and there are no visible growths or twine around their toes. Theyāre just molting as Autumn weather rolls around.
You can tell any old buttnut (scientific term) who hates pigeons to f-off and ask them how they would feel if almost every hair on their head and body fell out all at once.
Whether itās one of the last squab of the season thatās just getting its first āadultā molt in or the established flock going through the seasonal molt, itās normal. Itās scary for people who see them and donāt know whatās going on but itās gonna be okay. š¤£ Itās gonna be full on Jurassic Park for a hot minute but everyone will get through it.
Feel free to supplement your feed with added nutrients during this rough period, though. Your feathered friends would appreciate it. Molting can be taxing on their system so you still might find exhausted or hungrier than normal pigeons during this time and nutritional deficiencies can arise which cause a whole host of issues and feather growth defects that could affect their ability to evade predators.
Take a look at the photo, namely around the cere/beak area and eye. Those are pin feathers. You might even see what look like bald spots before the pin feathers come through. Iāll probably post another photo linking back to this post when it inevitably gets worse for these silly goblins. Some people also mistake the pin feathers for bugs or growths.
Sorry mods if this post doesnāt meet the criteria of the flair it was the best one that fit since Iām trying to be informative.

She does the 'squat for pooping' pose but nothing's coming out. Her cloaca's intact and okay. I dipped some cotton buds in olive oil and VERY gently persuaded her broody poops out (three huge ones) and kept going until the entrance to her cloaca seemed empty. She's eating and drinking normally and is showing no out of character behaviour. Will be calling the vet in the morning, just wondering if there's anything I can do in the meantime!

We appear to have been adopted by a pigeon, possibly a domestic escapee given how tame it is (I am stood right next to it in this photo) but no tag or wing stamp. No apparent survival instincts either as it simply doesn't flinch, or even comprehend it's in danger, when other pigeons attack it.
It basically spends its days sitting on the bird feeder, sitting on the fence or sitting on the roof. It is very able to fly, just has no interest in it. He seems very interested in us as he is looking at us when we interact with him, unlike wild pigeons.
No tags and still a bit wild but It's been a week that he is living in the garden.
He's got plenty of food, drinks in the pond next door. We've got a few pigeon nesting box (I'm obsessed with pigeons so kinda dream coming true).
Any advice please? Or just enjoy before he moves on ?

I'm not sure if it's wing us broken as it's more flexed upwards than drooping. I rang the veterinary in Darlington UK and they said that there wasn't much they could do for it as they could only put it down. It there anywhere we could take him? He is okay walking but is unable to fly. We are going to see how he is doing in the morning and have another go at releasing him.

This pigeon appeared yesterday on our balcony. Her head is always on the side or upside down. She canāt keep her head up. When she tried to fly, she just flaps and rolls around.

One of my favorites! Ryze dosnt fly to me yet, just watches, and stares, watches all my girls all over me and follow me but is still running from me. He wants to come so bad though.
icymi Ryzen escaped a hawk as fledgling and I got to reconstruct his/her whole rear end. We did well together my Ryzeeeee and then I blinked and Ryzen is all grown up. He/she was small thin after recovering but they always get big eventually.

Iāve known these birds for almost 2 years. They used to nest behind a retail sign last year. Now they live somewhere else, but still visit the old spot. I always recognize these Pigeons because they move as 3. One of them is nearly full white and the other 2 have white stripes. It wasnt until last month that I started feeding them peanuts. They feel so fluffy when they brush up to eat seeds. Hope you guys like them!

My two pigeons (Lilac and Lavender) used to be madly in love, but for the last few months they've gotten very territorial and often fight or threaten eachother like in this video (Lavender (the checked one) is just sitting on her favorite shelf and Lilac (the plain bar) keeps cooing and flying at her as if threatening her, as well as stomping and scratching in her box). Sometimes she even flies onto her and pecks and wing slaps her, I've had to separate them before. Is there anything I can do or is this just normal flock behavior? I want whats best for my girls and I'm bringing in a new fledgling next week so I want it to be a nice friendly environment for them :)

I still haven't landed on a name but I'm assuming it's a girl because the other one is already an asshole š. Lots of exploring around the nest past couple days. Last 2 pics are of Benedict, he loves being fed and his sister and wishes death on all invading persons, I'm sure he'll warm up to me though
Hi! Im wondering if anyone has a map of NYC pigeon roosts, or a few notable spots. Im trying to create a walking tour, preferably in Manhattan. Thanks so much :)

I've had him for a week and a day. I had his wing wrapped for about 5 days until I came home from work and he had gotten it off. I didn't replace because I figure at this point it's healed to a point where it won't make a difference. He's got blood under his wing where the talon got him and I feel he needs a bath.
