I was thinking the endgame here from the current regime is to balkanize the US between Blue and Red states.

I really don't want to be right.

I've been saying that for a long time now as well. People are quick to make Nazi and Hitler comparisons, and they aren't wrong. But Balkanization is a much more recent and realistic end to this nightmare. The parallels are sobering. I think the plot is to destroy the Union and break up the United States, creating chaos and ending our global hegemony. It's the only explanation that makes any sense given the events and observations of the last couple months.
