I am old enough to have grown up in the 70s/80s. We had smog alerts in LA. The sky was a thick brown haze that burned your eyes. When there were smog alerts we were not allowed out for recess or lunch.

Due to all those pesky regulations the right hates, we have some blue skies and no burning eyes. And last summer I remember Texas telling people not to drive so much because of the air.

Sure I hate the higher prices and taxes, but I do love So. Cal.
