I was thinking the endgame here from the current regime is to balkanize the US between Blue and Red states.

I really don't want to be right.

Man I hope they're dumb enough for that to be the goal. The economic centers of the country are in blue states. If they want to push for a coalition of the most economically prosperous and educated states more power to them.
