Trump is going to launch a trade war against California in the next few days.

Considering how much agriculture and manufacturing actually come out of California, this would have a substantial impact on the rest of the US. The California gdp is as much as in the top 5 gdp's in the world.

Right, California could secede and collapse all the red states.

Either way we’re heading to something.

It would also collapse California.

I know everyone likes to point out their high GDP, but a huge amount of that comes from handling Pacific shipping for the rest of the US. Without a very generous trade agreement between California and the new US they'd lose a massive part of their economy. And that's just trade goods passing through California. Not being able to freely sell their domestically produced goods and services to the rest of the US could be catastrophic.

Maybe over time they'd stabilize (assuming the US doesn't invade them). But even best case scenario they'd end up with a GDP closer to Mexico or Canada.

Where would the rest of the US Shipping go out of? Tacoma? This would just pass along the power to Washington. The other ports could in no way handle the volume and the cost of going the long way to Asia.
