I was thinking the endgame here from the current regime is to balkanize the US between Blue and Red states.

I really don't want to be right.

Trump and the Republicans go to California for fund-raising. He and they aren't going to give that up.

Republicans have always viewed California as an ATM that they can swing by from time-to-time.
