I worry about settling down somewhere with scarce water supply. Austin is arid, but has some decent aquifers.

The water wars are going to be brutal.

Probably why I'd go for the PNW, over CA, even though it's colder and gloomier.

The CA climate from the Bay Area northwards is expected to stay relatively stable and comfortable, under current global warming predictions. It'll get hotter of course (more similar to current day coastal So Cal), but it won't be a dry desert hellscape unless things heat up even more than expected. Either way though, most of it will still be more susceptible to drought and fires than the PNW, just as it is now.

The Bay Area is so damn expensive though
