Well the idea of Cascadia predates both Handmaid's Tale and The Dark Tower, and I think Gilead is from the bible so their either both referencing that or one is referencing the other.

Tumbleweed isn't native to America it's an invasive species from Russia and the USDA was created in part as a federal body to try to combat it.
