In response, White House spokesperson Kush Desai told Fox News: "Gavin Newsom should focus on out-of-control homelessness, crime, regulations, and unaffordability in California instead of trying his hand at international dealmaking."

Seems like that's exactly what he's doing by trying to circumvent inflation.

And yet the moment you ask them what their plans would be, they clam up or come up with some asinine scheme like firing all the homeless into the sun or some such.
