Income/Employment/Aid How can I make 1000 dollar in 16 month

Hey everyone,

I’m a first-year computer science student from Algeria, and I’m planning to study in France next year. I’ve saved up a bit of money in Algerian currency to handle my paperwork here, but I still need to make around $1,000 online before September next year to help me survive my first month in France (rent, food, transport—just the basics) until I find a job there.

I can’t work real-life jobs here in Algeria, because the currency (DZD) is very weak, and even after working hard, the amount barely converts into anything useful in euros or USD. That’s why I’m focused on earning online in USD or euros—it’s way more realistic and efficient.

About me:

I’m really good with computers—I know my way around and I understand what I’m doing when I’m on it. I’m not just clicking around randomly.

I can be very productive using AI tools like ChatGPT and other chatbots to boost my work or get things done faster.

I’ve already tried freelancing and applied for several small gigs and jobs (like data entry, virtual assistant stuff, etc.), but I haven’t been able to land a client yet.

I’m learning programming too, and I’m willing to keep improving and learn whatever I need to make this work.

So I’ve got 16 months to earn $1,000 online, and I’m serious about it. If you’ve been in a similar situation—or if you know real, beginner-friendly ways to make money online (freelance platforms, small jobs, websites, even long-term projects)—please share your advice.

Thanks a lot for reading. Any help or tips are super appreciated!

Outsourced online jobs or website like fiver would be your best bet if theres truly no work around you to make that kind of money

I tried freelancing but couldn't get any clients (about three months)i have no practical skill tbh to offer people a service, i think data entry is a possible job for me since i use computer really often

Roughly 2 USD pr day? If you have more or less unlimited internet, youtube might hit the spot with vlog style videos if you are consistent, and have something interesting going on.

Thank you , yea pretty much that's it roughly 2 usd per day (in my country u ll have to go through it so just u can start making few bucks on content creation especially yt)

Yeah, I am not familiar with local laws at you guys at all, but keep one thing in mind, Europeans are frequently baffled over the strangest things you might see as "normal". Algerian bachelor food? Or do you have a grandmother or aunt that can help you cook, and is willing to be on camera? Trip to a small grocery store and film all the (for us) strange tins? A local historical monument with a strange story? A barbershop? It will not make you rich, but it can be one small trickle that helps out.

Maybe look at AtomicShrimp/africa_everyday to get a bit of ideas. Not realistic to copy his success, AtomicShrimp boosted him a lot, but it gives a rough idea of what can catch peoples eyes.

Personal assistant services work pretty well. Translation services too. You may find it easier to start networking where you're going to be in France too, to lower how much you need before you get there.

Campus's often have job services and need translations, I'd comb the online resources at the place you're heading. Exchange programs sometimes happen too - I worked at a hotel and we had J1 visa kids come and work at our hotel for a while, it was great. That was organized by different programs, but they all found it through their local campus resources.

Fiverr is a bit tricky to use if you don't have a specific skill or portfolio. Photography is a great gig once you're there and you can start learning quickly. Studios are often looking for reasonable help. Photo editing can be decent work but you need a good portfolio.

If your English or French is clean, translation services are often the easiest to find on campus's.

But there's other sideways jobs too.

I made decent money playing DND on Roll20. You might find this tricky but people love a creative outlet - this would depend wildly on your English skills, but a lot of people would be open to your situation. I made about 800 US doing that, but you may find it harder because people are volatile and I had an expensive PC + camera setup enough people felt justified paying per session. That was $10 US per player.

Tarot is another good one. You don't have to believe in tarot, you just need a deck, a computer space, and be willing to put on some theater. Tarot is a meditation, it isn't innately spiritual, but put on a little theater and dramatize - someone is working through a mental issue. A few cars tricks couldn't hurt. I'd try Omegle or similar services for a while, get good at it, then find a place to offer services.

Really it's all executive function and attention. Same thing, DND / tarot, you just have to exhibit some theater and have a clear vision.

But again, depends wildly on your skill set.

Meanwhile... if you're heading to France and have a skill set like that, start meeting groups there.

Magicians do well on street corners in the U.S. depending where you are, France has a lot of street culture. If you're a musician people love that, easy to make money online doing commissions.

You may not have these skills now, but in 16 months you may. Consider your creative skills, art commissions are another good one. People love getting a painting of themselves or loved ones.

Etsy might have troubles with shipping, but if you're reasonably good at 3d printing and painting, people pay commissions to have 3d models of DND characters painting. Hobbyists are often looking for people who can paint, and 40-60 dollar transactions are normal, though you may need to consider post expenses, which likely will cause you issues.

Having said that, learning to 3d model for 3d printers goes a long way, selling 3d models to hobbyists for 40k models or other expensive hobbyism. People will pay for decent DND assets, see Hero Forge. People are doing that all the time.

Drive thru RPG is often doing these things too, I'd consider DND character sheets. If you can make a form fillable sheet that's clean and useful, people love that stylized stuff. DND Modules can sell well if you can make quality work, and given your unique background an Algerian fantasy module sounds fantastic, and DND players really support hobbyists from different locations. Consider some deep Algerian lore too, if there's any interesting cultural bogeyman or religious figures, consider stat blocks for DND. Neutral characters make more, people often are looking for less monsters and more, "experiences". Think faeries and mysterious creatures.

These digital assets sell well, and if you make a $1.00 Patreon for all your assets it becomes majorly accessible... then you just need to advertise. It takes time, but you have 16 months and you've got a good cause.

Meanwhile... if there's gaming groups in France and you meet them beforehand, they will be more likely to help you if they know you're a good DM.

Having said all that, I used DND as a lens. Boardgame groups, hobbyist 3d printers and so on can make good modest gains. Dice sell well if you hand make them, you can get a good premium using unusual rocks (that are cheap but interesting). These items are small enough to be posted at a minimum too, cards and decks too.

If you're any kind of artist, see the Tarokka deck from DND. Design a game module, add in the need for a deck, then sell the decks somewhere else. These can be printed and sold in the U.S., if you can get a modular popular enough.

You can do this with books, games, and similar hobbies.

Tabletop Simulator is a steam game that lets you see many many board games, so you might start there for ideas.

I probably made 2 grand running my own DND modules, at 10 dollars a player a session.

But hobbyism is a big sink, but people are often willing to make $20 purchases or less, the butter zone is around $5. I used to offer repeat business at 5$ at 4 sessions, which I'd cave to the 3rd session because people want a deal. This got people wanting to spend 10 for 3 sessions, then 5. Groups tended to fizzle around 6-7, but they always wanted to get to the cheaper sessions before they quit. I'd usually finish a module at 6, and I had repeat offers but I often didn't want to play with random people after 6 sessions, preferring regulars. $5 per player felt about right, it also avoided cancellations because most people don't want to refund 5 and would rather just show up.

But consider what hobbies you can fall insanely into, because I was good at DM'ing. It was work, especially the theater aspect of it, you want them to feel like they're on a guided tour of something mysterious.

Tarot is easier, but harder to advertise for... but you get the idea. Hobbyists are much more likely to part with $5 for an afternoon curiosity too.

Aim for, "weird curio" vibe and it slowly piles up. First 10 sessions are the hardest, so do those free, then get good enough to sell.

With programming you may have more success making novelty games or phone games. That's a lot of work and a lot of risk... but easier than catering to someone on Fiverr who'll negotiate for a million years.

Good luck!

Here's a great example Cze and Peku. These are great assets and it's a fantastic Patreon.

Thank you, the problem is with the currency 1usd = 250. Algerian currency the country's economy is not holding well for me to work in algerian currency and exchange it to usd

1

u/AdvancedHydralisk 3d ago

Look up gold farming on OSRS or WoW? Might be able to help if you only need 2usd a day

1

u/br0k3n_sTud_III 3d ago

Thank you, yes that's what i need just two usd a day though its hard for me to achieve it

1

u/AdvancedHydralisk 3d ago

It won't be super enjoyable, but you can sell OSRS gold for about .15USD/million

Although unless they do regional pricing in your local currency it won't be worth it

1

u/br0k3n_sTud_III 3d ago

Yup it won't be worth it, thanks again

If your french or english is good enough, tutor math online. It's about 10-20€ per hour, you have largely enough time to do it, and if you're that good with computers you can easily tutor middle-school maths.

u/br0k3n_sTud_III 3d ago

Thank you, can u provide any useful resources, i can speak french and english also arabic is my native lang

Could try teaching ESL? Or your native tongue as an online tutor if it isn’t English. That can pay very well online

If you're learning programming, something that could make money (or might not, so don't rely on it) and help you in the future with getting a computer science job is making apps, or other sorts of small-ish programs and projects.

You can make simple phone games relatively easy, and if any get traction, even a little, you might be able to make money off of it. You just have to be creative enough to make it better than the alternatives, or at least, as good.

Fluent in both French and English, you can offer tutoring, translating, and transcribing services on an app like Fivrr and use Zoom or similiar to meet. You can also post your services on reddit, Facebook, Bluesky, etc. You can charge $25-$50/hour (US) for language tutoring and homework help, depending on the level/grade. Charge more for translating.
