💬 Discussion What was that song which made Radiohead “The Band" for you ?

Most of us gets introduced to Radiohead through Creep or Some lame ass Tiktok using “No suprises” as its bgm but these songs doesn't convert you into a Radiohead stan instantly, you just think that “Damn this song is cool” but you don't feel any emotional attachment with Radiohead with these songs.

And so thats why I'm asking you guys about the song where it all clicked for you and you realised that this band is special.

Eg: for me it was Idioteque

💬 Discussion Songs where York is singing his heart out

Upvotes

I’m wondering if folks want to recommend songs where Thom is really hitting the pipes at some point in the song. Some examples would be:

“And nowww we are onnnneeee” as in Exit Music for a Film

“god rest your SOO-OOUUULLLL” as in Sulk on the Bends

I’m only familiar with a few albums, so I’d love to hear from the group 😁

💬 Discussion AMSP features Colin’s most technical bass playing

He gets a lot of credit (well deserved) for stuff like The National Anthem and Where I End and You Begin, but nobody seems to talk about the genius he is on AMSP. Take a listen to Desert Island Disk, Tinker Tailor, The Numbers, Ful Stop, to name a few. It blows my mind every time.

This may have been shared many times here, but having been a member for around a year I’ve not seen it so here you go. In Rainbow Roads - In Rainbows Mario 64 soundfont.

This is so well done it’s remarkable.

When released in 2023 apparently JG even retweeted it. Kudos to the creator.

Came across this via social media & it seems a bit dodgy. Clicked the link but didn't get a site warning from the malware software I'm using. Either way, it's a bootleg as opposed to official relationship?

💬 Discussion What album(s) did you initially avoid listening to?

While I never avoided an entire album, I definitely avoided listening to the entirety of Amnesiac, Kid A and TKoL. I knew a few of the songs that I really liked, (Idioteque, I Might Be Wrong and Codex) but I never fully listened to the albums.

💬 Discussion Radiohead Choke soundtrack

I was looking through the Wikipedia pages for Radiohead's singles and promotional singles. On Reckoner's page it says that it is played during the closing credits of the 2008 film Choke. The director and writer Chuck Palahniuk claims that Radiohead had written an entire ambient soundtrack for the movie which the band's managment denies.

Why would Palahniuk say that if he knew it wasn't true? I googled it and found a few articles from 2008 mentioning it. Anybody who has anymore details about this?

💬 Discussion This is what I think the guy in the video for Just is saying

Post image
49 Upvotes

So I was just having a conversation with someone in another post , and we were talking about electrons being able to exist in all possible states simultaneously until measured or perceived, and how that is the backbone of multiverse theory, and this is my response to that

I think the scary part for me is that it's not an enormous leap from there to thinking, or God help you, feeling, that it's only your perception that exists and the rest is all infinite quantum soul. That the universe ends at the boundaries of your perception. It's the worst feeling, like why talk if you're not really talking to anyone? Why do anything if it's just a light show? Go watch the video for Radioheads 'Just'. Imo that's what the guy says to everyone at the end when he speaks without us knowing what he's saying, he tells people that feeling and basically infects them with it. That's another scary thing, is that it feels contagious.

It does raise an interesting question though: if reality is pared down from infinity to singularity by your perception of something, what effect does your consciousness have on that process? Can it be controlled?

[End comment]

If you ask me, this is the driving force behind Radioheads music. Sure it can have political or social commentary but their main message is this, the universe is not what you think. I feel so strongly that they feel it sometimes, I mean really feel it. Kid A is so obviously a meditation on solipsism imo, and a lot of the rest of their music is. That's why it can feel so unsettling, because it's coming from the darkest place, that being an absolute void that you're trapped in. Alone. Forever.

I included a piece of art to cheer you up

I've always loved this fan-made version, but where did it originate from?I know it was made by a guy named Dan Mulcahy, but where and when did he post it? Does anybody have a high quality version of it? I've only ever listened to it on Youtube. Edit: Here it is, for those unfamiliar

I honestly rank it in my top 3 on in rainbows. I know some people dislike the repetitive feel of it but in my opinion that is the appeal. I can shut my brain off and drown in its atmospheric sound
