[Mod] Frequently Asked Questions

Why should New England secede and become its own independent nation?

  1. Better electoral system: When we secede, New England will have all elections of public office decided by a popular vote. The government should be comprised of individuals chosen by the majority (or plurality). Furthermore, we want Ranked Choice Voting, which would give New England the opportunity to have a multi-party political system. We want to move beyond the two-party duopoly.
  2. Better government system: We believe that New Englanders should be represented in Parliament proportional to their population, and that we deserve a sane representative to population ratio. As you can see in this chart, the United States population per legislator keeps going up, yet the Americans refuse to expand the number of seats in their Congress.
  3. Smaller countries = less chaos. As population goes up linearly, chaos goes up exponentially. There’s a reason why all of the countries with the best law and order, highest living standards, and lowest crime rate tend to be small. We want New England to function like Monaco or Norway, not the US, China, or India.
  4. Fiscal differences: New England (along with New Amsterdam, the Tidewater Area, California, and Cascadia) pays more money to the federal US government than we get out. The United States continues to tax us unfairly and funnel the money to failing states in the South, Midwest, and Appalachia. These states refuse to take care of themselves or enact sane policies; they are perpetually reliant on federal aid. The money New England sends to the US government ends up funding incessant foreign wars, useless border walls, and social programs for Southerners because they refuse to fund their own.
  5. Cultural drift: The Civil War never ended – it just became cold. The median New Englander wants to live in a sensible society – one that listens to science, abstains from foreign wars, spends tax money on practical social projects (road maintenance, public transportation, education, public health, environmental protection), values intelligence, and tolerates diversity. The median person in the South, Midwest, and Appalachia has different values. As we drift further apart on issues related to religion, public health, science, the environment, animal welfare, diversity, taxation, government spending, war, and education, we must separate and find our own destinies.

How can I become an NEIC team member?

We’re looking for the following things for team members:

  1. Time/commitment: You should be willing to spend 1-3 hours per week doing internet marketing. Posting things on our reddit, helping us with instagram, and getting your friends to sign our petition.
  2. Tech skills and constant communication: We communicate primarily on Facebook chat and secondarily on Reddit chat. We require new admin team members to have Facebook and Facebook Messenger that they check at least 3-4x a week. Reddit is not required but strongly encouraged.
  3. Transportation and event attendance: All admin team members must have a means of transportation to attend one live-event per year. This could be a protest, or a team member social meetup. Events can happen anywhere in New England, but usually happen in Boston or Providence.
  4. Inclusivity: As the NEIC has a policy of non-partisanship, we accept all non-fascists as team members. Our admin team spans the ideological spectrum. All team members must be willing to work with people from all walks of life and from all ideologies (except fascism).

If you feel that you meet all criteria, please send us a message at https://www.facebook.com/NEIndependence/

I’m in NY/NJ/Atlantic Canada. Can my state/province join the NEIC?

The New England Independence Campaign has committed to being a New England only movement. If you feel strongly about independence, start your own movement as our friends have in California and Cascadia: https://www.newenglandindependence.org/our-friends/ Be the change you wish to see in the world.

What is your stance on immigration/taxes/drugs/foreign policy/health insurance/social programs?

While we believe in some broad values that we feel are inherent to New England culture (right to bear arms, equality before the law for women/ethnic minorities/religious minorities/LGBT, abolition of electoral college, separation of religion and government) we feel that New England independence must come before any particular policy stance. We can only make true progress towards a better future if we first separate ourselves from the United States. Tacking ourselves to a particular ideology or political party would only serve to divide New Englanders and prevent us from reaching our ultimate goal.

Great meeting some of you at City Hall Plaza today! There were also at least four more New England flags in the crowd who didn't make it to our subway vent platform. MASSIVE turnout overall, lots of flyers were handed out, spirits and solidarity were turned up to 11 despite the drizzle.

I know New Hampshire’s current politicians would make NH leave an independent New England in a heartbeat, but we Granite Staters don’t feel that way. New England or die

Everyone should read this list of Grievances of the United States Declaration of Independence. It's amazing how many of these things Trump is doing. Revolution in 1776, secession now!

CA will push to maintain global trade independently

NE should stand with CA in this illegal tariff (massive taxation) move by the Trump administration. We have strong cross border relationships with our Canadian friends and both familial and economic ties with EU markets.

Calexit non binding referendum to be voted on soon. When do we start ours, can it be binding?

With the US crashing, we need to eject and pull the parachute and NEexit.

We send all our money to D.C. to fund states that hate us, have 14x the footing power of a blue city, and the Russian asset traitor trump cut Medicaid expansion 90% to mass reportedly, cut school funding, coming after legal immigrants, green card holders, detained illegally.

The US has become a dictatorship, the revolutionary war was taxation without representation and economic policy that harmed New England.

Is it possible to leave? Do we have the military strength? Or do we allow ourselves to be further and further ripped off and have our rights stripped away that New England fought for, drafted the constitution to prevent.

Dc is responsible for all of this, our states are well run, we have the innovation economy, we have all we need, and nobody will trade with the US again.

To survive economically we need to leave, to avoid 12 years of tyranny and further erosion of the cancer that is dc, what can we do?

Political Party?

Hey, I’ve been a long time lurker here and I have a question about something I think may help. Seeing that our great neighbors to the north in Quebec have come quite close to success in the past with their secession movement. (And if I do recall there were posts from VectorPryde about it) I was wondering if the NEIC is planning on involving itself in local races in the midterms to help push policies that will help make our goals a reality. As essentially a New England equivalent to the Bloc Québécois and Parti Québécois. From what I understand the Yankee National Party that the NEIC appears to be affiliated with based on the website is exactly such an entity but they don’t seem to be getting as much attention in terms of organizing, how can we fix that?

Either way there is at least one person out here in Fairfield County willing to vote for an NEIC/YNP candidate in a local race!

Edit: for clarity on YNP

[News] 30th of March 1775. The British Parliament passed the New England Restraining Act, which restricted trade and commerce for the New England colonies, limiting them to trade only with Great Britain, Ireland, and the British West Indies, and also banning them from fishing in the North Atlantic.

Turning up the heat of the movement

Hello, fellow New Englanders and friends around the world!

We recently reached 10000 members of the Reddit, which means 10000 people ready to help build a new nation for New Englanders that stands for our values against autocracy and monarchy. As we've made this milestone, It's important to remember that we're getting real. A real movement that requires us all coming together to push for change in our six states, becoming regularly involved, and supporting our nationality over that over the violent, racist, and, monarchist (suck it monarchists, there's a reason why they call him "prince baron")Trump "administration". Spread the word as much as possible. Fly your flags, do whatever you can to peak a curiosity in disgruntled New Englanders. Theorize how we could get referendum(s) for independence in a peaceful and lawful manner, and a whole lot more. This idea is a theory, sure, but we've been presented with a threat and a harsh reality, that this theory will easily overcome if executed well.

Thank you!

We need to GET BACK ON THIS!

Hello, Fellow New Englanders and Friends around the world,

I've noticed we've strayed recently. Gotten into the nitty - gritty of "What will our government be?" or "Will NY be a part?". We don't need to care at the moment, people, What we need to care about is how we'll get there - and spreading the word. We need smart people working on how we'll get referendums on the table and passed, and not tiny things like that. On the other hand, we need to spread the word as much as possible, Keeping people active, and teaching people everything they'll need to campaign for an independent New England.

Thank you all!

[Discussion] Want to bring attention to BerkShare's

https://berkshares.org/

Localized, regional economies are the most effective method to combat corporate feudalism. BerkShares has had a local currency since 2006 and initiatives like this are needed to combat a monopolized state. Local credit unions, Farms, Restaurants and land trusts must be pursued at all times as one, it will protect your town from being consumed by corporate interests and two it is the most effective path to independence.

Every day you should be thinking about how best to keep your dollar in New England and out of Washington and NYC

I didn't take a picture because I didn't want to doxx the address of whomever it was but:

To the patriot who has a full-size Pine Tree Flag hanging off their house in Acton, I see you, and I love it. Wild to see that just a few weeks after I discovered this movement.

[Discussion] Executive council, a real check on Presidential power (governmental framework proposal)

What is the executive council?

Massachusetts and New Hampshire have an executive council that must sign off on judicial appointments, gubenitorial pardons, and some government contacts. They are elected by popular vote in districts drawn up by the legislature (gerrymanderible, but very democratic). The largely ceremonial Council of State in Ireland is composed of the Vice President, the Speakers of the house and senate, the chief justices of their three supreme courts, and all their former presidents (heavy emphasis on the establishment).

My proposal: let's implement an executive council for the Republic of New England that is required to sign off on, by simple majority, all major acts of the President. They would have to approve vetos, pardons, large government contracts, and all nominations to governmental positions (including judges). They would also have to sign off on the deployment and usage of nuclear weapons. believe this would provide a meaningful check on Presidential power, without overly handicapping the executive branch (like running the executive by committee, or making it subordinate to the legislature like in the parliamentary system).

If a Democrat wins the 2028 and there’s a peaceful transfer of power with no interference (despite how unlikely it is) would you still support the an Independent New England?
