Neutered Male, Tan and Black German Shepherd
Shelter: East Valley Age: 1 year, 1 month
Weight: 68 lbs
Scheduled Euthanasia Date: 04/07/25
Has been at the shelter since 03/04/25
Reason for euthanasia: Behavioral decline and behavior concerns in the shelter
Gilbert has been in an inside kennel since arriving. Easy to leash and walk, moderate puller. Shy at first but loves people and to get out and run. Loves to be outside and explore. He loves treats and is very food motivated. He knows how to sit and takes treats gently. Has been in several playgroups - described as affiliative with people. Heโs social with other dogs, at times a bit anxious, he takes corrections from dogs well and is steerable. Gilbert likes to play but also just mingle. Volunteers who have met him love him and hope he can find an active home before itโs too late.
๐พ๐พ๐พ volunteer notes
Gilbert was easy to leash through the door and easily walked to the parking lot, he wasnt interested in sniffing but to walk and run, he takes treats gently and was well behaved with another volunteer, didnt pull at all, and was easy to return.

We rescued our sweet Jack on Oct 26. He was there for 6 weeks. Before that, he was living on the streets. Life is so much better with Jack by our side ๐๐ซถ๐ป
1-Cobbler-Cobbler is a three-year old pit bull who was rescued from an abusive breeder. All she really wants is love, and her toys. She gets very attached to particular toys very easily, and likes to carry a toy with her on walks. A particular few toys in the shelter have become personally hers. Cobbler has a tendency to occasionally eat/rip sheets and blankets, and eat inedible objects if she can get her paws on them. Cobbler is probably my favorite dog in the shelter because she maintains a very sweet nature in spite of her dark past, and despite her flaws would be the dog I would adopt if I was in a position to adopt one. http://adopt.adopets.com/pet/5b9c5907-7c0c-48b9-b95b-1a3df6109683?tracking=72d50378-9078-4317-90f2-e5dc86f5
2-Potato-Potato is the dog who has been without a home the longest, he was previously in a foster home but was recently returned to the shelter. He is a four year old pit and despite having been in the shelter for so long, he is one of the most well-mannered dogs I know. He is also very food motivated.
3-Desi-Desi is a two year old pit bull with a very calm demeanor. He just wants a simple life with lots of love in it where he can sleep, eat, walk, repeat. Desi, however, can be destructive to furniture and blankets, and quickly goes through toys. But heโs a sweet dog who means no harm.
4-Walter-Walter is a dog who has had another very long stay at the ASPCA. He is a Two year old pit. Walter is a dog who is very reactive, and clearly had little training or discipline in his past. He tends to bark at people passing by his kennel, and refuse to cooperate with the staff. However, he is not outright aggressive has hesitantly become affectionate towards the people who have worked the closest with him, and tends to behave much better when out on walks than when cooped up in his kennel. He is a dog who will require a lot of patience, space, and TLC to assimilate into a home life but he has shown a gentler side to himself in the past. But I donโt recommend him for a first time dog owner, or someone unprepared to own a challenging dog.
These are just some of the dogs who have been struggling get out of the shelter the longest. The ASPCA has many other really amazing dogs(and cats too!) that in recommend also checking out if you are looking for a Big Apple rescue. And NYC has many shelters filled with dogs that need adopting, and one adoption benefits every animal by freeing up a space in the system. But these four are dogs who I have grown close to in my time volunteering at the ASPCA, and some of them like Potato and Walter have been in the shelter since 2024. It hurts that these dogs have been without a real family so long, and that some of them like Cobbler have never even had a real family. So please, if you think Cobbler, Potato, Desi, or Walter are right for you, please consider adopting. Of course Iโm not a behaviorist or vet, so I donโt know everything about these dogs or their history, so please ask any questions you have about them in the adoption inquiry.
Hi everyone! Our rescue could really use some assistance with covering the cost of Shelleyโs spay appointment. She is booked for April 29th. If anyone would like to donate directly to our vet for Shelley's spay, I will put our vets information below (address, phone number, name) where a donation can be added to our account for her spay appointment. If anyone would be able to help weโd greatly appreciate it๐พโค๏ธ Thank you guys!

๐จโผ๏ธ URGENT: FOSTER & PLEDGES NEEDED TO SAVE BUGAR! โผ๏ธ๐จ
๐ This sweet 5-year-old pittie mix, Bugar (ID# A5679800), is out of time! His owner lost his home and had no choice but to surrender him to the shelter. Now, he faces euthanasia by Friday, April 4th, unless we can get him a foster and rescue support. ๐
๐ถ Bugar is a fun-loving, friendly boy who adores other dogs and loves to play ball! ๐พ Despite being given a terrible shelter name, his spirit remains loving, playful, and full of joy. ๐พ He does NOT deserve to lose his life simply because he lost his home! ๐ข

๐ฉ Please contact us immediately if you can help! ๐โจ
Please help me share so I donโt have to have this heartbreaking conversation with Nicky again next week. ๐ His current home only signed up to be his medical foster and heโs been healthy for a couple months now. He needs a new foster yesterday, preferably with a yard and other dogs for him to play with. ๐
Bubbles rescued Nicky from a hoarding situation where he was starved and emaciated- just 37 lbs. ๐ That marked the beginning of Nickyโs fight for his life. He began to show symptoms of parvo after only 24 hours in our care. He spent the next two weeks in the hospital getting the cadillac of treatment thanks to your kind donations. The doctors truly didnโt think Nicky would survive. We didnโt know if he would either. But he defied the odds- our very own flesh and blood miracle. ๐ฅนโจ
When Nicky was diagnosed with parvo, his foster backed out of fostering him and heโs been with a temporary medical foster since. Heโs finally healthy (he weighs 75 lbs now!!!) and needs a long term foster.
Heโs a fabulous boy- loves other dogs and heโs even great with cats! Heโs great with kids as well so he can be in many types of homes. He is a puppy though (just 1 yr) so he is active and likes to run around. A backyard would be very ideal for this angel.
We accept fosters anywhere in CA, OR or WA. If you can foster, please fill out our app at:
