If you have subbed with us for a while you'll know we've grown significantly. We now need to moderate a little more carefully what kind of content we are allowing. Until now, we've (mostly) kept out the other Rhinos and been hands-off -- honestly, 99% of you have been great. Recently there's been an uptick in a few users posting their own content (Youtube channels or likewise) and we've heard a call by users to limit the amount of self-promoting content and we agree. Thus,
Feel free to post links to your own content (within reason). But if that's all you ever post, or it always seems to get voted down, take a good hard look in the mirror --- you just might be a spammer. A widely used rule of thumb is the 9:1 ratio, i.e. only 1 out of every 10 of your submissions should be your own content.
Anyone knowingly self-promoting, click-farming, or otherwise using our subreddit mainly for personal gain or promotion will be banned for 30 days.
A second offense is an immediate and indefinite ban without warning.

So my experience lurking here has been that most of the requests for help come with almost no required information, so people have to play 20 questions trying to tease out what is actually being asked or just shotgun random tips.

Apologies for my crude drawing!
This is a swingarm/engine mount for a dirt bike. I need to raise the area around the hole by about 2mm. Ideally this will ultimately be produced by CNC.
Is there a way to define a particular area (shown in dashed lines here) of a polysurface, and just "raise" that area?

Hey, I'm just starting to use Grasshopper in an academic context for a very specific project, but I'd like to know if there are people here who use it professionally, especially in Architecture, and what they use it for.

I'm considering switching careers from 10+ years producing events (mostly immersive/ interactive spaces) to designing them. I went to art school, can draw and have always been fast with software. I also love leading creative development which is what is prompting this change. I was accepted to solid grad program with a full ride, but it would require moving across the country for two years and I couldn't work much during it. I'm torn!
Wondering if folks here went to grad school and if it was helpful? Or maybe you taught yourself, if so - how did you think about building a portfolio from scratch? 🙏

I'm an architecture student in my third year and have been using Rhino for the last 4 years, I used grasshopper for some projects yet I cannot fully create a parametric definition on my own, like I have the idea in my head but can't do the programming side..
Grasshopper indeed has a steep learning curve, but I wanna know what is the best approach to master it? certainly practicing from yt tutorials isn't enough.
can you recommend any good resources regarding computational thinking, logic-behind algorithms?
I'm okay with books btw

I'm modeling a handle part like the image above, but I don't know how to create a surface that connects the body and the handle. Please help me😢
I keep missing the continuity of the surfaces in the blue circles in that image
The image below shows the current situation where I'm trying again from the beginning.

Lots of Project used to get the panel lines. This has been a huge learning process. I’d say I’m 90% done, need to detail the cockpit and turret but happy with the rest!

A partner of mine has an issue where I send her a model I've made, she opens it on Rhino and the screen on Rendered mode is completely black (except some blue colored lines). It's basically like the model is in default "night mode".
I tried adjusting the sky light for her (with no spotlight) to colors other than black, and the model always appears flat colored based on what color the sky light is. It doesn't have this kind of shading on the corners that allows you to discern the surfaces.
Mine, for example, also has black sky light but it appears normal (image below).
Hers appears more workable when we activate the sun.
My partner has Rhino 5, I have Rhino 6.

Hi, do you have any ideas on how to model something like this in Rhino? I’d like to create my own shape for 3D printing.
How would you approach this? And do you have any suggestions on how to split the shape into individual elements?
I appreciate any input!

Hey everyone, i have a project i want to develop, make an rhino/grasshopper ai assistant, the idea is to develop it with python, but i cant seem to be able to connect the python enviroment to the rhino one, so connecting the external to the internal.
Has anyone got any experience on this and could help me connect them? or will i have to code the whole thing inside of rhino? the idea was to make it plugin, so it can be shared with the community aswell. Thanks!

How do I snap the curve above the red line? to the grid/floor? Is there a way to find out the angle?

I everyone have been trying to create a catamaran knife om rhino, but I can seem to be able to produce this with either, sweep 2 rails and the general silluate by a line mor by a loft. Does anybody have a suggestion how to go about it?

Hello, I've tried everything I can but no succes.
I have a mesh that I cut with a plane. I'd like to 'loft' the naked edge of the resulting mesh with some curves. The part where the mesh joins the lofted surface gets all messy and full of naked edges.
I'd like to do it with grasshopper eventually.
First picture shows the main goal, last show the result.
Any suggestions? I'd be very thankful.

I own a new laptop with an intel 9 core processor. When I connect my laptop to my monitor I don’t have issues with rhino freezing up.
My file is 231 MB large. I’m not sure why rhino keeps freezing when I open my file. I keep all other programs/browsers closed when I use rhino.

I am trying to retrofit an old building and was trying to figure out a grasshopper workflow for it. It’s a laced metal frame structure so the columns and beams are gonna stay intact but the floor plates can be changed and cantilevers/ new levels can be introduced since the context and use of the building have changed and it wasn’t built with user thermal comfort in mind. My initial thought was to try scaling the floor plates and test the incident radiation using ladybug+galapagos but this seems pretty pointless. Any suggestions for references or plugins that might help with this?

The photo is of poor quality sorry

I have went through multiple different CAD software's, TinkerCad, SketchUp, FreeCad, Fusion 360. I was having issues with TinkerCad, SketchUp, and FreeCad because of either a lot of errors or not enough features. Fusion 360 on the other hand was pretty good, except for the limited features and files, unless you want to pay 2000$ a year.
Then I stumbled into Rhino 3D, it looks great. Specifically the one time purchase and all features, also like 80% off for students (I am a student).
The thing that caught me off guard is that it is a NURBS modeler. I am not sure what this means, I did some research but found mixed results on what it can be used for. I want to create accurate models like motor brackets, motion systems, and drone designs. Is Rhino 3D the right cad for me?
Could anyone provide what Rhino 3D can be used for? Can it only be used for curvy designs, or can it be used for both curvy and accurate designs?
Sorry for the potentially silly and non specific questions. Thank you for all replies.
