Trip Planning Looking for advice for first big road trip

Upvotes

I am from NY and am planning a road this summer with my girlfriend. I plan to shoot out to Colorado and spend a couple days seeing stuff there, then taking a more southern loop back through Texas, Stopping in NOLA, and then making my way back to NY. Don't plan on spending more than 2 nights in one spot. Never seen any of this stuff, or taken a trip remotely this long before. I can give the specifics of my plan if you want. Any advice?

Trip Planning Hi everyone! Going on a road trip in a month. I will be car-camping every single night and my focus is on national parks. Not super interested in big cities but I do like to explore cute little towns. Interested in how long you think I need and if my route looks good.

Trip Planning Road trip Vegas to Corpus Christi

Upvotes

Hi. My husband and I have to go to Corpus Christi for a funeral. We’re renting a van and rushing there for a celebration of life in June. We plan on taking our time on the trip back. We can take any route back for about a week. I’m looking for any great camping ideas, national parks, historic sites and quirky stuff to see along the way. Thanks!

Trip Planning Is this an overly ambitious trip?

me and a friend have been talking about a road trip across southern usa, starting in miami and ending in las vegas. this would be the exact route: miami - nola - austin - san antonio - albuquerque - phoenix - santa cruz - san francisco - los angeles - las vegas.

in each place we would spend at least 1, at most 4 days (we’ve planned out how long we’d like to spend in each place). for travel, we’d be taking greyhound for the longest distances and hitchhiking for the shorter ones (austin - san antonio, santa cruz - san francisco). for accommodation we’d be staying in cheap motels, couch surfing and rough sleeping in hospital waiting rooms, hotel lobbies etc.

i would be taking photos with my 35mm film camera throughout, as well as documenting the whole thing on a camcorder to make a sort of road trip documentary/short film.

i want it to be really ambitious and something to remember, so the nearly 5000 miles doesn’t massively bother me. but is it really doable? has anyone here done anything similar? please share any stories and advice. thx in advance 🙏

Hello all,

My model 3 and I are heading from Seattle to Greenville Sc. For an extended road trip. I am going to Hilton head, wa DC, Bangor Maine, and finally cape cod MA before driving I-90 end to end back to Seattle.

Maine is my last state before I have been to them all so I am pretty excited about that. What I am looking for is opinions of a route to SC. Being I am taking I90 home I would like to take a more southern route there.

Thank you for your input!

Trip Planning Eastern Tennessee

Friends and I are planning to meet up in Eastern TN in October, 2025. We are not into touristy attractions, but would like to see some of the Smoky Mountains and other gorgeous scenery with some local shops, liquor tasting, etc. thrown in. What activities/sights are not miss? I’d appreciate suggestions of communities to stay in while we are there. We are coming from the eastern and central us, most of us driving 10-12 hours depending on where we land.

Trip Planning 1 month on the road, where to go?

Post graduation i’m taking some time to reflect and go on the road before entering the work force.

I’m in MN and currently leaning towards a trip to the pnw stopping at national parks along the way.

If i were to go this route, how much time should i deligate to each and are there places that aren’t national parks that i should stop at along the way?

I’m also open to going somewhere completely different, so feel free to suggest anything :)

Hi. I'm planning to drive the Cabrillo Highway from San Francisco to Los Angeles at the end of April. Unfortunately, I'm not sure about the road opening. Is it passable along its entire length? Google Maps doesn't automatically guide me there. I have to force the route.

I'd appreciate your help and answers.

We are going on a road trip in June this year from Denver to Minneapolis.

We have not been to any of these states before and would love for hear any recommendations 🙌🏽

What route should we take? We don’t mind driving for longer if there is a worthy detour.

Are there any cool things to see on the way?

We are thinking of breaking it up in at least two days and wondering where is the best place to stay midway.

Thank you all in advance for any recommendations 🙏🏼

What should we do in the area I have circled? We have two days to kill before we drive home to Michigan. We’ve already done the Smokey Mountains but am open to nature, history, and tourism areas! Thank you 😊

Trip Planning Planning a trip, need a little help.

I am a single mom with 2 kids, 13 & 8 and so not super young to travel. I am taking the kids on our first family vacation just the 3 of us. We are driving from Massachusetts to Florida, all in all the GPS says the whole trip is 1269 miles and will take roughly 18hours and 33 minutes. The couple questions I have are:

  1. Has anyone taken this trip or a similar one, and if so where would be a good stopping point to pull over and stop for the night? I don't have a driver to switch with so I will definitely have to stop as there is no way for me to drive 19hours straight through.

  2. Last question is if anyone has recommendations on where the best affordable place to rent a car for the trip would be. Hoping to find a place that I can rent a car for the 10 days and that doesn't charge per mile. I have never rented a car before so I'm unsure on how everything works, do I have to tell them I am renting a car to take out of state? Do they ask what youre renting a car for?

Trip Planning First time solo roadtrip in USA

Post image

Hi all! I'm busy planning a (solo!) roadtrip I'll be doing from May 1st to June 1st. First time USA visitor here and I'm a bit stuck on planning out a part of the route I'll be taking. I'm staying in SF from 1 till 5 May, Napa 6 till 7 and then on to Lake Tahoe where I'll probably be staying in South Lake Tahoe for 1 night. After Lake Tahoe, this is what I got planned:

A. Mammoth Lakes B. Zion National Park C. Page, Az D. Grand Canyon E. Las Vegas (could really use some tips for Vegas since im neither a gambler nor a big drinker) F. Death Valley G. Sequoia H. Yosemite I. Monterey (from here on ill drive down to LA and San Diego with multiple stops at f.e. Carmel, San Louis Obispo, Santa Barbara)

Im trying to take the most scenic roads (if possible). Do you think that the above named locations are in the right order? Am i missing some must see spots? Please hit me with suggestions and tips, open to anything!

Trip Planning West Virginia

I make a yearly trip from South Carolina to Detroit around labor day. They had two really nice travel plazas on I77 that I believe were run by the state. Had gas, food, couple of little shops. It was nice. Last year they were both shut down. So my question is are they back open? And does anyone happen to know where they can be found on the map, or on Waze? Thanks fellow travelers

We have around 15 days, starting around May 15th.

Current plan below - A. Utah salt flats B. Yellowstone national park C. Mt. Rushmore

Trip Planning Roadtriping the Deep South for Europeans

Hello, me and my brother are 2 Romanians who will be roadtripping the Deep South in mid October and are looking for some recommendations.

We're gonna have OCT 10 - OCT 19/20 for availability and we want to experience authentic Southern culture and see some crazy things we can't see in Europe. For example, Talladega NASCAR , LA swamps and College Football in Alabama ( which I particularly wish tremendously we could do for the Tennessee game but it's out of question because tickets go well over 200$ )

We know it might not be enough but we're not gonna be around any time soon so we really wanna do something like this.

If you have any suggestions or recommend anything please let me know, this is our planned itinerary:

10 OCT - Land in Memphis, TN, early morning, stick around for the day. Bass Pro Pyramid, the assassination site of MLK and a whole lot of barbeque

11 , 12 OCT - Drive South through MS, through the Delta ( Clarksdale, Vicksburg ) and the Natchez strip. We wanna have fried catfish and meet locals in restaurants and bars and see the Mississippi river where it's beautiful, I see a lot of pictures of abandoned churches in the swamps there and it looks mysterious.

13, 14 OCT - Be in New Orleans, do all the New Orleans stuff

15, 16 OCT - Explore Rural LA, get Cajun food, do a swamp tour, visit a bunch of plantations ( Laura, Whitney), get accommodation somewhere rural

17 OCT - Drive to and spend the day around Mobile, AL, explore the region. I'm thinking learning something about Africatown and eating seafood

18 OCT - Drive North and stop at the KFC Buffet in Prattville for lunch ( seems interesting and tasty and a unique piece of history). Be in Talladega by evening for the tailgating parties ( I don't really know how they work but I've read they're as important as the race itself).

19 OCT - More tailgating in the morning, attend the race at noon. Be in Atlanta by night to fly out to Chicago.

This is vaguely what we've brought up.

Please share an opinion.

EDIT : I.E What needs more or less time?

Thanks

Trip Planning Driving from San Diego to San Francisco. What’s the best scenic route on a time crunch?

Hope everyone’s doing well!

My mother and I are planning on renting a car in San Diego in June, staying there for a few days, then driving up to San Francisco for a few days. We want to drive up the PCH, but unfortunately, we are on a bit of a time crunch and can only stop off for one night on the way up the coast. I’m also aware that a section of CA-1 has seemingly been closed for a while now due to landslides, so we’d likely have to skip past that section anyways unless it reopens by June. I have a couple of questions:

Given our circumstances, what’s the best route to take that gives us the best of the PCH while still keeping timeliness in mind?

What would be the best stopping point for a one-night stay?

I know the logistics of this trip are tricky, but any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
