They aren't the same. As far as leaning towards the left of the spectrum, democrats are obviously better than Republicans. But just because they're better than Republicans doesn't make them actually good. Yes they are the best option reasonably available. But we still need better options.

You'd probably need ranked choice voting first, or you'd just end up splitting the vote on the left and handing elections to the right, like what happens in Canada.

I dont think we are going to get those better options by empowering nazis who will take away our ability to choose. The choice is pretty clear if we can at least stop the needle from ratcheting further right and maybe then reverse it, thats better than surrenduring it to full throttle the other way.

I'm not saying they're the same, but they are both beholden to capital and they both value corporate profit over human lives. Where are the bills addressing the housing price crisis or the post pandemic price gouging?

They’re not the same, but boy are my blue state utility costs and home insurance are through the roof in these supposedly regulated industries while the companies are raking in the profits

this doesnt change the overall trend of the US, to the point where it seems like they just do these things, knowing they wont really change, just so they can point to being different ENOUGH to get votes

Or if left leaning voters were a reliable, consistent voting block then they could push the democratic party farther left like the far right has done to the GOP. But they aren’t so Dems court the people who do, shocking.

whats simpler, that theres some amorphous progressive egg that would hatch if all the conditions are juuuuust right and its mean ol voters fault

or both enfranchised parties are just looking to do whatever gets them paid the most and keeps them in power

This isn't the problem. Almost nowhere in the US has good labor protections. Even here in solid blue MA, we just voted down a referendum to phase out tipped work. Which is one of the leading problems nobody is talking about here: Having mandatory sick hours doesn't help people who rely on tips. Getting paid $20 for hourly pay for the day isn't much help.
