To be honest bottling various AoE cards (not just Whirlwind), or Glass Knife is also a good use of bottled flame. If you get bag of marbles, mutagens and/or akabeko you'll have a very strong opening hand that wipes group fights with one card and makes AoE oriented elites (Guardians, Slavers, Reptomancer) much easier.

I've bottled Riddle With Holes before when I had Akabeko and Mutagens

not sure if it was optimal but it was a lot of fun

(4 base damage + 3 strength + 8 Akabeko vigor) x 5 = 75 damage turn 1 for 2 energy. Yeah that's pretty good I'd say
