Rant Things are getting out of hand!
I know mods can’t look for things like all day. But I think at-least we should report these to mods. Or can we pin the subreddit rules?

All my pictures & memories from my travels in the past 8 months are in there.
Arrived in Sri Lanka last week 🇱🇰 and want to enjoy the country but got stalked, harassed, and now a stolen camera.
To the person who took my camera, you can have it - I just want my memory stick back 🙁
I’m staying in Harbour Road and can meet anyone with information at the Tourist Police.
Note: helping a friend post this since she does not have reddit

So I see a lot of irrelavant posts here, and posts complaining about irrelavant posts, and posters saying how their post was removed by the mods even though it was clearly relevant, and people suggesting a separate subreddit for relationship advice, students etc. So why we don't we just have a subreddit similar to r/CasualConversation or r/CasualUK where Sri Lankans can post about whatever they wish, and keep this subreddit reserved for matters directly related to Sri Lanka?

Hi I am a state uni student. Some of my friends studying in private uni like Sliit and cinec. Because of that from my concern they are rich people. But recently only I got to know that those guys works in hotels at night to cover their expenses. I just thought oh this is occurring in every students life noh! But I just met those friends before some days and we chat a little bit. After chatting with them only I realised that they are not rich and their parents are middle class people and sent them their for studies because to fulfil their dreams. There is programme like mahapola and so other people's helps for state uni students. My question is there any programs or institutes who support private uni guys by knowing their family background.

Is it true they will deduct 10% from the savings interests, if you don't have a TIN number? Have you all created TIN numbers for your parents?

A few of my female friends have had very concerning experiences, mainly to do with the coach. I hear he has been preying the female clients (some underage), and he also is actively grooming certain clients. Seems highly predatory.
I want to know if people have had similar experiences or stories as this guy is operating freely without facing any consequences. I think some light needs to be shed on this.
If you have any stories that you can share, it would be great because it seems like he is taking in new female clients and advertising himself as a space that's safe for women.
However some events that are rumored to have happened even back in 2019 & 2020 are highly suspicious.
Apparently he was kicked out of his previous location by his own brother in law a few weeks ago. I assume a something has to be serious to be kicked out by your own family. And all of his previous clients seem to have left him. Can someone tell me if something happened?

Hello
One of my close family members who was a Sri lankan citizen (Born and raised in SL) recently got their US citizenship. And they lost their Sri Lankan citizenship because they didn't apply for dual citizenship when they got US citizenship. He was planning to apply for the SL citizenship last year but due to some personal reasons it got delayed.
He has a land he bought when he was a Sr Lankan citizen, and now he wants to build a house in this land for his parents.
Anybody know whether he is able to build a house on the land he already owns? Are non-citizens not allowed to build a house on the land that they owned before they had their SL citizenship? If not, what are the alternatives?
I heard non-citizens cannot buy new lands (Not sure that law is changed now) basically trying to figure out if they are still allowed to build a new home on the land they already owned.
What kind of a lawyer/attorney should he contact to discuss the legal side of this? (Immigration lawyer, property lawyer etc.)
Thanks

Hi,
I'm not a Sri lankan citizen and i live abroad, i have however costs in Sri Lanka and therefore i need to do certain bank transactions like paying bills and making bank transfers to family members within Sri lanka and would therefore like to have a Sri lankan bank account that i can send money to from Europe.
I opened a PFCA account in USD, savings account with BoC but for some reason they say i cant make bank transactions through their online app, only check bank statements and do withdrawal and deposits to the account. Does anyone have any recommendations on which bank account and with what bank i should get and what limitations there are to having a PFC account? i'm also wondering how to get a normal sri lankan rupee account and if i need one.

I am almost 19 years old, male, and I am finding it difficult to understand why many Sri Lankan parents are so strict about their children’s online activities. They assume that I am wasting Wi-Fi whenever I watch YouTube or browse online articles. To clarify, I actually dislike playing online games because of these restrictions, and the only online game I have ever played is FR Legends. I have successfully completed my first year of my degree, yet my parents still don't allow me to complete assignments or take online exams without interference. They come into my room, lie on my bed, and watch Facebook very loudly, seemingly trying to catch me doing something they disapprove of, like playing games.
When it comes to studying, I am extremely focused, and they never "catch" me playing games. The only exception is using a simulator, Assetto Corsa, which I secretly use only on Sundays.
I am currently working on a 10-hour assignment, but my parents’ loud behavior, especially while they are on Facebook, is making it nearly impossible to concentrate. While I understand that it is their house, I believe I deserve the right to study peacefully in my own room. For the record, the only time I may be using Wi-Fi during meals is when I watch YouTube, a practice I believe is more commonly accepted in Western countries such as the USA.
I feel as though, if I were to play games, there should be no issue with it, as I am no longer a child. Many of my friends, who are pursuing the same degree, are allowed to play games as a hobby without any parental interference. I am reaching out for any advice, tips, or tricks on how to avoid constant surveillance while studying and how to manage this situation with my parents.

I think, instead of focusing on clean Sri Lanka, we should expand it to focus on Green Sri Lanka, which incorporates Cleanliness as well as the Goal to be free from fossil fuels by a certain date, let’s say 2050.
A country rich in natural resources, lakes, rivers, waterfalls and the sun almost every single day.
These are all resources we can use instead of burning fossil fuels, the sooner we save money on energy the faster we’ll be able to invest in other sectors like education and healthcare.
A country with green energy, modern universal healthcare and modern universal education will never fail.

I am Local A level physical Science stream student. Planning to do Mechanical Engineering. I have heard good things about SLIIT, but is their transfer programes to foreign universities good? How much extra would it cost to do a foreign degree transferred from SLITT? They have published as 3,4 mil for doing it in sri lanka, what would be do do it as a transfer student?
If SLIIT is no good, can you suggest me a good private university which have a good transfer option

But I truly want to hear the stories of people who had this vacation coming to IIT, what they actually did, and what they didn't, so you don't want me skipping it or maybe any peer advice on what I should do.

This was today in the accident ward where they put medication. Why do doctors and nurses keep sanitizing them hands and wear gloves when my niggas been cripwalking right there? :3 Bugger first popped up under the chair I was sitting and then he ran inside to the dustbin to the left. Then bugger went full tom cruise with music in background and kept running. Surprisingly, none of the staff noticed except me and the guy on that bed. xD

Looking for recommendations on a locals friendly place to stay overnight around Galle Fort. Budget is around 25k-30k for the night. Ideally somewhere clean, cozy, and walking distance to the fort. Not looking for anything too fancy—just something comfortable and safe.

Hi. I want to bring nicotine pouches (no tobacco) with me and from what I've read, it seems like that is okay.
However I really want to know if any of you had trouble in the costoms? Did they want to talk to you / check the nicotine pouches?
Should I bring them in my big luggage or in my hand held luggage?
I'm traveling with my mom who doesn't know I use, and I really don't want them to take out the nicotine pouches in front of her.

Hi all, On my last trip to Sri Lanka in December, I bought home a big pack of Sri Lankan Cinnamon Coffee from a tea shop in Colombo. Since then I have tried different ways to try and make it, but I find that it never really mixes with milk, and remains too coarse for a black coffee. I generally enjoy my coffee cold with a splash of cream but since I have bought this one, I really want to try and make it in an authentic way.
If anyone of you can help me on this, please feel free to drop in your methods below. Thanks!

What is the best place to get Honda vehicles service done. I have been going to Hybrid Hub initially and then Stafford since. There is always some sort of repairs recommended. I am not a car expert. Is it true that Stafford recommends unnecessary repairs?

Hey everyone, my cousin(29yo) just finished his MBBS from a university in Sri Lanka and is currently prepping for his internship. He’s hoping to move abroad soon after, mainly because he wants to earn well and live somewhere with better opportunities and quality of life.
He’s also planning to start preparing for a specialization right after his internship.
So I was wondering
•What are the best next steps for someone in his position?
•Which countries are currently the best for doctors in terms of salary, peaceful living, and long-term settlement?
P.S. I’m not from a medical background myself, so excuse any technical terms I may have messed up. I’m just trying to help him out the best I can!

Since the ban is lifted looking to buy a new car/suv. This is my first vehicle and looking it for a long term. Any suggestion what is the best option I can go for? Can effort a lease of 120k per month and can do a down payment of 2Mn. Came across KIA Sonet and Nissan magnite. Are these two a good idea? If not any other option?
