How to sit for 3 hours straight ?

I am preparing for medical pg exam and i find it really difficult to sit for long hours The problems i face are 1. Feeling sleepy - I would go to room and take a nap for half hour thinking it would make me more fresh and active. But i end up sleeping for 3 or 4 cycles like this. 2. Lack of Dopamine- in search of reward i usually end up watching youtube videos for hours —Requesting the people of this community to help this brother out🫠

I used to have the same issue as you, and I can come up with a few ideas to help.

  1. If you’re able to, get a desk riser and a walking pad. This has done wonders for my focus and it keeps me from getting sleeping.

  2. Make sure you’re sleeping enough (8-10 hours) and eating well. If you’re sleep deprived you’re going to keep struggling with studying and not get too far. It messes with your focus

  3. Some sort of physical activity every 25 minutes! I use a pomodoro timer where I study for 25 minutes or an hour(depending on my attention span) and then I take a break for 5-10 minutes to do something. The biggest trap is going on your phone or on YouTube, there’s way too many rabbit holes

  4. This is the best bang for your buck tip in my opinion: don’t go on your phone until you’ve done at least 2 hours of work. You’ll have much more dopamine available in the beginning of the day so you’ll feel more rewarded for doing your work. If you go on your phone before and deplete your dopamine watching YouTube, work is going to feel almost impossible and boring. If you have to, give your phone to someone or put it in a different room so you don’t mindlessly pick it up.

TLDR: stay off your phone, move every 25 minutes, and take care of yourself. You got this!

Ok so this is super random but I learnt about this self-adjustment technique called Sensory profiling. It is basically your brain's ability to process sensory stimuli.

So my sensory profile basically fell in the "low registration" quadrant for most senses. This means my brain is chronically underwhelmed, which means I need to add sensory input back into my study routine.
So whenever I sit down to study I now:

  1. Have crunchy snacks or extra minty gum with me
  2. have a fan blowing on me
  3. Have fidget toys near me
  4. Have music with no lyrics and a high BPM next to me.
  5. Wear a fragrant lotion sometimes.
  6. Pomodoro timer set for 35-45min work sets and I have to take active breaks.

I basically implement these changes at the first sign I feel tired/irritated or overwhelmed. It has helped me work for waaaaayyyy longer!

There is a quiz on Kumo Study (free on the chrome store) and they give suggested adjustments!

Definitely worth looking into if you have ADHD and struggle to stay focused or get overwhelmed/fatigued easily!

Hey friend! Struggling to sit for 3 hours straight?

Stay alert: Move around, drink water, and study near a window.

Boost dopamine: Reward yourself, listen to music, and study with a buddy.

Prioritize comfort: Get a comfy chair, follow the 20-20-20 eye care rule, and sleep well.

You’ve got this! Stay focused and crush that exam!

TL;DR: Move, hydrate, reward, and prioritize comfort to conquer 3-hour study sessions!

Try Pomodoro, minimize distractions, and take short breaks.
