Time to go shopping and find a new line of favorite products! It is all going for a good cause, though as those baby doves will be really cute and Mom will love you for all of your sacrifices you have made for her family.

I thought of this sub before I saw that this was already on the stupid nest sub. I wanted to say your baby belonged there but I didn’t wanna hurt your doves and your feelings

She definitely belongs there now. Oh well, who needs makeup anyway?

I can tell you she definitely belongs with those blushes. I’m a colors nerd and they go with her feathers undertones beautifully

Is it your pet dove? How does one get a pet dove?

u/minervajam 1d ago
Yes she is! I adopted her from someone in my local area, she was found as a baby and rescued.
Doves/pigeons are FANTASTIC pets, much easier than a parrot and I've owned both!
If youre in the US, GreatLakesPigeonRescue offers shipping their adoptable pigeons for a small fee, or show local doves. I originally wanted a pigeon before finding Dandy in my local area!
There are some pigeon/dove breeders but honestly they aren't recommended. Not only because so many birds need homes, but because quality control is awful because (unlike parrots) doves are extremely easy to breed. They can also often be inbred or have a sickness.
I found dandy through pigeon/dove Facebook groups and looked up my area. I drove 4 hours to pick her up but it was totally worth it.
Doves are actually domesticated, extremely loving, and require less expensive food and toys. For example, they are grainivores, so a 50 lb pound of QUALITY food cost me 35 bucks. Which will obviously last me a long time. Also, their beaks don't have the capacity to bite off a finger, draw blood, or tear up their cage/your house.
They do need plenty of love, so if you don't have the time get 2. I have 2 myself despite having lots of time! They also need a good sized cage, and some toys/grit/plenty of natural wood perches.
If you have any questions please let me know!

I say this to everyone who wants a parrot. Doves are the oldest domesticated birds and have been our companions for at least 10,000 years!

I’m a crazy parrot lady who was in parrot rescue for awhile and have wanted a pigeon or dove FOREVER and you’re only fueling the fire 😂

Man, i already have enough exotic animals making nests in my makeup, but you're making me REALLY consider rescue doves as a viable option...
2
u/minervajam 1d ago
You won't regret it! What's the point of makeup if not to bring joy to exotic animals?

u/lagomorphed 1d ago
Hear, hear! I'm making a wild leap - would they do well with more of a "home base full of their food and toys" rather than a cage?
2
u/minervajam 1d ago
Could you elaborate more? I'm not sure what a home base is sorry lol
2
u/lagomorphed 1d ago
I mean an area that's "theirs" in the way a cage is but doesn't actually need to be closed/locked.

To be fair the peri pera lip stains are eggscellent🥚
I like to dab a small amount on the middle of my lips and use a finger to spread it out, overlining them the slightest bit with a soft edge. It looks so velvety and makes my lips look more lush than they actually are hahaha

No bc same!! Applying it thick all over is so drying, but a small amount used for overlining or contour!! They make great eyeshadow too!

Chinese spotted dove?

u/minervajam 1d ago
Shes actually an Eurasian Collared dove! No spots, and white underbelly. She's also larger than a mourning or spotted dove!

Does she have an egg under there? Are you about to have cute little babies join your family?
2
u/minervajam 1d ago
Not yet but she might lay soon! I will have to replace them with duds tho even tho I love babies!
2
u/ColdPuffin 1d ago
Replace with duds? And she’ll still like them? Will she be sad if they don’t hatch? (Sorry if these are silly questions, I’ve never owned a bird)
3
u/minervajam 1d ago
Lol no you're okay! Once they don't hatch she will move on and go back to normal which. Her eggs won't be fertilized since I have a female, but I remove them anyway so they don't get rotten and break. But if they were fertilized I'd still remove them.
Pigeons will sometimes eat their own eggs if they break but have a strong maternal instincts even for other species!
There's a viral video of a pigeon making a nest for a pregnant cat, and another for a dog. They often adopt other babies and are very loving!
However, they can pump out multiple babies a year. Especially pigeons who are domesticated, they can have up to 9 eggs a year!
So this is why it's important we limit their breeding, because it's also bad to keep the baby with the parents when they reach adulthood. Incest and violence will occur since the "flock" is so small. Not to mention all the pigeons that need homes.
Also, Dandy would be a terrible mother lmao. I love her to death, but she is like a horny ADHD 5 year old with no social skills because she was raised with humans. She has no real interest in birds, only people and she considers me her mate despite my efforts lol I hope this helps!

u/ColdPuffin 1d ago
That was super helpful, thank you so much for taking the time to explain it! Hope Dandy enjoys her nest ☺️

u/minervajam 1d ago
No problem at all! Pigeons/doves are such great pets. I've never had an animal i loved more than her. I hope you consider adopting one!
List of super cute things Doves do: -When they want attention they will coo, and flutter their wings slightly. We call this "flippy flaps" and it's adorable -they preen you. Preening is the act of cleaning feathers, it's how flock mates care for eachother. Think of it like grooming. Doves will "preen" your fingers, which feels like little kisses -angry stompies. When dandy is mad at me (like if I left the room for 10 minutes) she will puff up and stomp around, and do an angry call once in awhile. She's so angry it's funny.
There are plenty of other awesome things about Doves, if you have any questions feel free to message me!! Thanks for your curiosity 🫶🫶
