Is it your pet dove? How does one get a pet dove?

Yes she is! I adopted her from someone in my local area, she was found as a baby and rescued.

Doves/pigeons are FANTASTIC pets, much easier than a parrot and I've owned both!

If youre in the US, GreatLakesPigeonRescue offers shipping their adoptable pigeons for a small fee, or show local doves. I originally wanted a pigeon before finding Dandy in my local area!

There are some pigeon/dove breeders but honestly they aren't recommended. Not only because so many birds need homes, but because quality control is awful because (unlike parrots) doves are extremely easy to breed. They can also often be inbred or have a sickness.

I found dandy through pigeon/dove Facebook groups and looked up my area. I drove 4 hours to pick her up but it was totally worth it.

Doves are actually domesticated, extremely loving, and require less expensive food and toys. For example, they are grainivores, so a 50 lb pound of QUALITY food cost me 35 bucks. Which will obviously last me a long time. Also, their beaks don't have the capacity to bite off a finger, draw blood, or tear up their cage/your house.

They do need plenty of love, so if you don't have the time get 2. I have 2 myself despite having lots of time! They also need a good sized cage, and some toys/grit/plenty of natural wood perches.

If you have any questions please let me know!

Man, i already have enough exotic animals making nests in my makeup, but you're making me REALLY consider rescue doves as a viable option...

You won't regret it! What's the point of makeup if not to bring joy to exotic animals?

Hear, hear! I'm making a wild leap - would they do well with more of a "home base full of their food and toys" rather than a cage?

Could you elaborate more? I'm not sure what a home base is sorry lol

I mean an area that's "theirs" in the way a cage is but doesn't actually need to be closed/locked.
