Worst day of my life

Post image

I’d been eating Frito Lay ranch as my hyper fixation food for almost 20 years. When they bought Spitz it became harder and harder to find ranch, assuming they were to be discontinued. Officially rebranded as cool ranch and have no flavor on them. Absolutely depressed.

I used to get homemade seeds from Colorado that were lightly salted and the kernels were the best. Stopped at a Mediterranean store and these looked pretty good. They taste the exact same, possibly better. Need to scream it from the top of a mountain

David's Worst Flavor

Hey fellow sunflower seed enjoyers. We all are extremely familiar with the David brand of seeds, they're literally everywhere. Love them or hate them they're the biggest in the game. For me they've always struck me as decent for the most part with a few exceptions with some flavors being not so great and others being pretty awesome. Typically the flavors that aren't so great are more of me not being a fan of that style of flavor (sweet and salty is the easiest example, as to me it tastes a bit like salted caramel, which is something I've never enjoyed). That said, they all typically set out what they're intended flavor profile is supposed to be and then my judgment is how my palate agrees with the execution and quality. Again, David typically does well in this regard even if I sometimes disagree with the intended flavor.

That was until today with the last bag I purchased, honey roasted seeds. I'm aware that this flavor isn't new but it's new to me in the sense that I have yet to see it in a store I've been to. I was curious to try it out even if sweet isn't exactly the flavor profile I go for with sunflower seeds. I bought it, popped it open, tried them out and... I just don't understand what happened here. I stated before that even my least favorite seeds from David are decent interpretations of their stated flavor but this? This isn't it at all. The thing is that objectively speaking, they're not bad. They have a decent salty and roasted taste but where is any honey or sweetness from this? If you grab a big handful you can taste a very tiny tinge of sweetness which dies in .5 seconds.

I've never had a sunflower seed flavor miss the mark this poorly. So this isn't the worst flavor of had in terms of absolute taste but it's easily the worst I've had in not at all living up to it's stated flavor/interpretation. Is there anyone out there who LOVES this flavor? Not knocking you, just want to hear why it is. Also is there any other flavor (not only from David but any brand) seed that made you have a similar reaction of "this tastes nothing like it says"? Thanks for listening to this needless rant of mine. Have a great day!

NICE! Sunflowerseeds - Looking for help!

Hia,

So my all time favorite brand for the past 13 years have been the Walgreens NICE brand of sunflower seeds. They recently changed their supplier and their new one is.. eh.

Taste is not the same at all.

I'm wondering if anyone knows who the old supplier is so that I can buy direct or another brand. :(

Accidentally ate like 400 shelled seeds

I thought that this was the way to do it, but realized after getting a splinter in my gum that maybe this wasn't the best idea to eat the shells. After looking it up, it looks like I'm gonna get cut up and splintered throughout my digestive track. How long do I wait before feeling this pain? Should I go to the hospital asap?!

Does anyone ever think of re-seasoning your sunflower seeds?

Funny question, I know.

So, I live in Canada and I don't have access to many brands beyond Spitz, Old Dutch (which is tasty, but low quality seeds) and Cha Cha.

As someone who grew up on seasoned Spitz, I want that same flavour but with lower sodium content and better quality seeds. I can't seem to find proper seasoned Cha Cha. I picked up the spiced one once and it was sweet, which to me is an abomination that I cannot enjoy. Great seed quality, though.

The other day I found a different brand in similar packing as Cha Cha, called Passion. It uses similar seeds but has actual straight salted ones which so far I am pleased with, EXCEPT that the saltiness is overbearing.

I got a funny idea in my head to rinse the salt off the seeds and re-season with seasonings of my choice, then dry/bake the seasoning in. Am I crazy? Lol

Post Seeds Binge Cure

Whats your go to remedy to get your lips and tongue back to normal after binge eating an entire bag of seeds??

I recently just restarted my love for seed snacking and after like an hour, my lips and tongue start reacting to the salt and my taste buds are off for awhile.

What are some remedies to cure it, quickly?

What's the best way to eat a sunflower seed?

I've been a regular eater of sunflower seeds for a while now, but I feel like I am opening them incorrectly or negatively. I always flip it to the seam and crack it with my back teeth then move the shell to the other side of the mouth then eat the seed but I find it hard to get the actual seed out of the shell. I'm not sure how else to open them but I feel like there is a better way of still getting the flavour of the shell and still eating the seed.
