Reminds of that one scene in The Social Network.

“It’s because you’re an asshole”

u/Mistrblank Jan 31 '25

I really want to live in a world where Andrew Garfield shows up and just starts slapping the shit out of the real Mark, says nothing and then just walks away.

I'm not coming back for 30%. I'm coming back for everything.

I like standing next to you, Sean. It makes me look so tough.

Along with my Gucci sweater and my fuck-you flip-flops!

1

u/wayrobinson Jan 31 '25

I have similar visions.

155

u/mrdilldozer Jan 31 '25

Also, it's not like the guy has some great master plan for the company. He assembled a team to make Facebook a great social media platform and bought another one that was good as Facebook started to decline. Facebook is now a shell of its former self, and it's unclear what Meta's future is. His plan for the future of the company was virtual reality and it was a hilarious failure. He's now trying to chase trends and facebook wants to make AI bots to "boost engagement on their platforms."

He's in charge because he owns the company, and any other CEO would have been fired by now. Who working here actually respects his plan for the future? Meta is a dying brand, and the people who work under him have to be aware of it, too. Of course they don't respect him.

7

u/chappiesworld74 Jan 31 '25

The stock price is at an all time high and the company has a market cap of 1.7 trillion dollars. No other CEO would have been fired by now. You obviously know shite about business and bringing value to shareholders. (Which is the CEOs job)

9

u/mrdilldozer Jan 31 '25

The stock price had been slumping for a long time before it went up. His ass would have been fired in 2022 if he didn't own the company. He wasted 10s of billions of dollars and had to lay off thousands of employees because of his pet project.
Their rise is also recent and in line with the industry's trend.

-1

u/dnaland123 Jan 31 '25

A large chunk of people on reddit across the political spectrum (but more on the left) have delusions of grandeur that their understanding of the world is correct. Facts unfortunately don’t stop feelings from getting in the way. Don’t get hung up on the downvotes lol.

-36

u/chickenlittle2014 Jan 31 '25

lol dude meta is a 1.7 trillion dollar company, he is the 4th richest man in the world, but ohh you internet troll clearly know more than he does

41

u/mrdilldozer Jan 31 '25

He's just some guy who made a social media network that took off and made him rich, not some genius programmer. He isn't an expert on things like AI or virtual reality. You don't have to be smart or even run a good business (lol Tesla) to be rich. You just have to convince people to invest in your company.

https://www.sfgate.com/tech/article/meta-workers-reportedly-lost-faith-mark-zuckerberg-18001223.php

This is from 2023 before he started to get into politics. The experts he hires aren't exactly impressed by his decisions.

Reminds me of being a student; was always blasting with Inception as I did my studies

2

u/CryinHeronMMerica Jan 31 '25

I like the matching line from the end. It honestly describes him better: "You're not an asshole, Mark, you just try really hard to be one".

Functionally it's the same, but it's a lot harder to live a lie the way he does.

2

u/PsAkira Jan 31 '25

Zuck hated that movie and book so much. 😆

2

u/takemy_oxfordcomma Jan 31 '25

3

u/spaten78 Jan 30 '25

Yeah, IG is the one that’s tough to let go of. The rest are easy.

2

u/RIF_rr3dd1tt Jan 30 '25

Why is that? I don't have Instagram. Still have FB but don't ever post anything or reply, mainly just look at stuff on marketplace from time to time. I use reddit a lot but I get that people keep it bc its different than other social media platforms with its anonymity.

1

I prefer the Team America version.

See, there's three kinds of people: dicks, pussies, and assholes. Pussies think everyone can get along, and dicks just want to fuck all the time without thinking it through. But then you got your assholes, Chuck. And all the assholes want us to shit all over everything! So, pussies may get mad at dicks once in a while, because pussies get fucked by dicks. But dicks also fuck assholes, Chuck. And if they didn't fuck the assholes, you know what you'd get? You'd get your dick and your pussy all covered in shit!

Algorithm* bro is clearly ai

2

u/HashBrownRepublic Jan 30 '25

I don't think he's employees care that he's very rich. They wouldn't work for him if that mattered to him, they would like this.

The leaks are probably happening because Facebook is notoriously a petty and Machiavellian place to work. It's the kind of work environment where the middle and upper management emphasize the office politics and see it as competency if you're effective in it.

When you do that, you just end up with an organization that you can't trust.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '25

Why?

→ More replies (2)

628

u/anitabelle Jan 30 '25

He’s a massively unlikeable asshole who must not realize that people hate him. People as awful as he is cannot trust anyone. I’m willing to bet that the leaks are not coming from just one person.

238

u/BellMaleficent1986 Jan 30 '25

He and Elon keep making the comparison to the Glass Onion character easier and easier.

93

u/pnwbraids Jan 30 '25

MILES BRON IS AN IDIOT is burned into my memory and their behavior makes it more relevant as time goes on.

5

u/yeah_this_is_my_main Jan 31 '25

The description he gives him just before that fits Elon exactly.

3

u/fps916 Jan 31 '25

Ohhhh it's so dumb it's brilliant!

NO! IT'S JUST DUMB!

2

u/ick-vicky Jan 31 '25

My favorite line in the movie

1

u/fps916 Jan 31 '25

It's between this and the hole in the doughnut hole diatribe in the first one for my favorite Blanc moment.

Shitballs comes in 3rd

62

u/kymri Jan 30 '25

While I dislike both of them significantly, I was kinda hoping I'd get to see Zuck kick the snot out of Elmo.

Alas.

0

u/andygootz Jan 30 '25

What did Elmo do??

16

u/presty60 Jan 30 '25

I don't appreciate that people keep calling Musk that. It's disrespectful.

To Elmo.

6

u/Cucker_-_Tarlson Jan 30 '25

I never knew all the details, but they were having a public spat like a year ago and it got to the point that they were planning to have a cagematch. Buuuuuut Elon ended up backing down like a bitch, the Zuck was ready to go.

3

u/andygootz Jan 30 '25

What's amazing is that, to the uninitiated like me, this still reads like you're talking about Elmo the Muppet up until the last two lines.

3

u/red_nick Jan 31 '25

Well he certainly is a muppet. So I can see how you could mix them up.

2

u/Cucker_-_Tarlson Jan 31 '25

Lol, I did not realize that you were talking about the actual Elmo. I'm so used to people calling Muskrat that that it completely went over my head.

1

u/okiknow2004 Jan 31 '25

And Elon reason was literally “I’d fight you but my mom said no”

1

u/ReAlBell Jan 31 '25

They hated Glass Onion and it’s only aged like fine wine. They hated Don’t look up and that’s only aged like one wine. What I’m learning is that in right about everything.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '25

Wasn't this character literally Musk to start with?

Considering he’s made his fortune essentially spying on people and selling that information it’s kind of fitting that he feels he has no privacy anymore.

99

u/Western_Secretary284 Jan 30 '25

The charming sociopath is a rare phenomenon. Most are awkward weirdos like Musk and Zuck

48

u/leocharre Jan 30 '25

At least bundy hurt less people.

4

u/Odd-Mechanic3122 Jan 30 '25

There's a reason most billionaires are secretive after all.

-2

u/PriscillaPalava Jan 30 '25

A charming sociopath is called a psychopath.

8

u/Kinteoka Jan 30 '25

No they're not. Psychopathy and sociopathy are not clearly defined in medical and psychological texts. And what constitutes a psychopath/sociopath is heavily up for debate and if there even is an actual distinction. Psychopathy is pretty exclusively used in criminal/judicial cases.

Antisocial Personality Disorder is what we generally know of as sociopaths/psychopaths (as well as other comorbid personality disorders like narcissism, borderline, etc) due to low or a total lack of empathy, remorse, and fear.

The most common somewhat agreed upon distinction between psychopaths and sociopaths is that psychopaths have a tendency towards violence.

Whatever statement of psychopaths being "charming sociopaths" is a complete and total fabrication.

1

u/PriscillaPalava Jan 31 '25

A lot of online sources differentiate psychopaths from sociopaths by their ability to remain in control of their behavior and to actively manipulate.

Sociopaths are more impulsive and prone to anger and violent outbursts. Psychopaths are also capable of violence but for them it’s unemotional and controlled.

I get it that these definitions have blurry edges but again, anywhere you look online makes these basic generalizations.

6

u/BakingBatman Jan 30 '25

No, it's not. Neither term have actual meanings as they are not recognized as definitions of anything by experts. The closest is antisocial personality disorder.

Sociopath and pyschopatch are TV terms which change definitions based on the show you are watching.

48

u/causal_friday Jan 30 '25

"I made a website where people list their friends."

"Sir you're not on anyone's page."

"It's because gay people are mentally ill."

"That sounds right."

What a nut.

48

u/BOFslime Jan 30 '25

Meanwhile, everyone was friends with Tom.

28

u/th3_rhin0 Jan 31 '25

Tom didn't radicalize my family

12

u/bedrock1977 Jan 31 '25

I miss Tom, he was cool.

2

u/Enshitification Jan 31 '25

Tom cashed out Myspace to Newscorp, as in Fox News. He wasn't that cool.

5

u/greyduk Jan 31 '25

And it was a massive flop for them. He took their money and it made them worse. I think that's still pretty cool.

32

u/Vin4251 Jan 30 '25

Even if he was likable; he's a fascist through and through. Has been for at least a decade, but now he won't even hide behind the usual "well akshuallly" forms of plausible deniability.

67

u/52nd_and_Broadway Jan 30 '25

Zuck doesn’t have friends. Zuck doesn’t have close personal relationships. Zuck is as unlikeable a human being as they come.

Zuck has no idea what it’s like to have friends and that’s literally why he created Facebook. He’s a terrible person who is lonely and wants friends but no one fucking likes him because he sucks as a person.

16

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '25

No you’re going too easy on the cock-zucker. I’m a terrible person and even I don’t like him 😂

2

u/Opposite_Peak_5261 Jan 31 '25

I wonder how his wife is in real life. How is she morally and ethically endorsing Zuck.

10

u/youtocin Jan 30 '25

Of course he realizes people hate him lmao

The Social Network came out forever ago and it was glaringly obvious the story makes Zuck out to be an unapologetic asshole. I’m sure he’s seen the movie and knows that’s how the masses see him.

3

u/uncletravellingmatt Jan 30 '25

I guess she was right, but he just wouldn't listen.

3

u/TeeManyMartoonies Jan 31 '25

Oh no, he knows. This is why he’s building a bunker.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '25

Right, solidarity comes from the small stuff, a simple enjoyable moment with the person. He just wants them to know he pays them, probably thinks that's enough.

141

u/NeighborhoodSpy Jan 30 '25

Bingo. You can create a team and an organization that doesn’t leak. But it requires real trust and mutual respect. If everything he says leaks? Says a lot about his relationships with everyone around him.

46

u/Rob71322 Jan 30 '25

Right. When employees feel like their employees are lying to them, keeping secrets, etc, they will leak all the time. The secret here isn’t hard, treat your team with dignity and respect and they will repay you.

4

u/JoseDonkeyShow Jan 31 '25

I think your second employees should read employers? I would hope at least

2

u/yourdadsbff Jan 31 '25

It's employees all the way down

3

u/doktorhladnjak Jan 31 '25

100%! I worked at a place that went from everyone kept big secrets no problem to everything was leaked to the media instantly.

It was because the staff felt like they weren’t being heard anymore, that management was not taking real problems with the business and work environment seriously.

127

u/CombinationLivid8284 Jan 30 '25

No one respects him there. I worked in two flag ship projects he “personally PMed” and it was a clusterfuck. You had to get everything through boz because Zuck was useless when it came to deciding anything.

28

u/rohandm Jan 30 '25

-33

u/Tasty_Ad7483 Jan 30 '25

Does it feel bad having compromised morals and ethics as a soldier in his army? Or does the paycheck make it easier?

26

u/Shock_n_Oranges Jan 30 '25

What companies are ethical to work for outside locally owned I guess? Even then those locally owned companies are probably doing business with these larger corps.

Not to mention that he doesn't seem to respect anyone else's privacy. All your data is for sale

3

u/zetswei Jan 31 '25

Wasn’t the basis for Facebook that the original crew couldn’t get girls or dates or something and so they were stealing data from their demographic? I know Snapchat was similar because they were storing photos etc on servers the owner had but when Facebook was private only for .edu emails I feel like I remember that being a thing.

2

u/Status-Necessary9625 Jan 31 '25

It was originally to rate women like the old site Hot or Not. He's a fucking pig and wanted to get laid

Pepperidge Farm doesn't, because there was basically none.

Nor in Bidens

53

u/Closefromadistance Jan 30 '25

He doesn’t care if people like him. He’s spent his life screwing over, and stepping on, other people so that he can get ahead.

He has no ethics or moral values.

He has no loyalty to anything but his bank account.

It’s all coming back to him.

36

u/uggyy Jan 30 '25

Many many moons ago a friend of a friend was in his circle. He couldn't stand him but played along as they where all getting pretty rich at that time. Nothing I heard was positive about him.

Everything I've seen since backs it up.

Yeah, dude literally made Facebook so he could stalk and rate the women of his college who wouldn't give him any time of day. Even joking about adding an option to rate them compared to a picture of an animal...

He'd be an "!ncel" if he never had gotten any success and probably be even deeper down that red (medicine) pipeline. (apparently this sub filters the actual term for some reason)

16

u/dantheman91 Jan 30 '25

Well when you have 10k+ employees you're bound to have plenty not like you. Especially as a public billionaire

48

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '25

And a public douchebag

5

u/gogoluke Jan 30 '25

You can both respect and not like a boss at the same time. People will have worked for plenty of people they disagree with and would not spend social time with but would not leak information. It also suggests people leaking feel it needs to be leaked. You may hate the boss but feel no moral obligation to leak information. It seems Zuch is both disliked and distrusted.

1

u/sexyinthesound Jan 30 '25

Spot on. People will trust even if they don’t like, like even if they don’t trust, and ya gotta do what ya gotta do to pay bills much less live well, so it’s rarely worth your livelihood to run your mouth. A messy, leaky team or project anytime the boss is running things seems to be always an indicator that the boss is both disliked AND distrusted, in my experience. Considering what the boss has been up to, in this case, I imagine there’s a lot of moral obligation or feelings of duty for some people on these teams to warn others.

9

u/hawkeye224 Jan 30 '25

Could be.. he pays his employees pretty well though

As a meta employee, this is 100% true

2

u/clashtrack Jan 31 '25

2

u/Whiskey_Water Jan 31 '25

I mean, it’s a job which gives them money. Who fucking cares if they think the CEO was a douche? The next company they go to will probably have a douchey CEO as well.

As someone in the tech industry, i believe we have to have higher standards than just a paycheck.

Work’s work. It’s not your life.

Except in a world so controlled by large corporations that work has global implications.

Who would risk a job with insanely high salary when the tech job market is like this…

More than you think. If all that it takes for a company to get away with awful shit is golden handcuffs, all of society wouodbw screwed so much worse than it already is.

A lot of people working at meta have families. What would meta be doing currently that’s so “awful” that people would risk being unemployed. A lot more people care more about their paycheck than ethics

Meta helped being about modern American fascism via ad campaigns they let run. Zuck is bowing to the far right and pushing his way into politics. Facebook hired cognizant to moderate their platform and caused people PTSD. Facebook has actively manipulated people's emotions in experiments. They spy of everyone they can.

I get some people care more about money than ethics, my entire point was that that is a problem...

And I’m saying most people straight up don’t care. We’ve seen it with voter turnout. At the end of the day, ethics doesn’t put food on the table

OK, so your point is the world is shit, people are greedy and nothing will change. I'm glad I don't agree.

I've seen people risk their freedom to fight for what's right, let alone their job.
