A billion dollars is just a mind boggling amount of wealth. Think of it like this:

A million seconds is 11 days.

A billion seconds is 32 YEARS.

It's an order of magnitude of wealth that, I think, procludes you from being particularly empathetic towards the plight and needs of others.
