From what I understand, there is a specific "gene" that all Austronesians have that the indigenous Taiwanese groups don't. This gene can be found in Cordilleran DNA.

There's a new study that challenges Out of Taiwan. It is possible that the Austronesian seafarers came from the Philippines and not Taiwan. In fact only a few - probably one or two - indigenous Taiwanese tribes have seafaring cultures and they are genetically closest to indigenous Filipinos rather than to other indigenous Taiwanese groups.
