Replaced the busted lid of this bench with some discount oak stair tread and a handle made from scrap walnut.

Reused the hardware so all-in it cost about $16.

Can I ask why you put the handle on it if it's a bench?

It's a storage bench. That's why it had a lid.

Even storage benches get sat on, I guess they’re thinking.

Oh, misunderstood the question. It's still plenty wide if someone wants to sit on it but the small lip was kind of hard to to grab so a handle made sense. Plus, I thought it looked cool.

I would be the idiot that sits on that handle.

Yep, that was my first thought as well. Looks painful.

Looks great, but the handle is not needed… and in the way. The front of the seat hangs over a little so you can just lift it.

Some day I hope to have the self confidence to look at a small picture of a bench someone else made on my phone and decided that I know better about how to open it than they do. Inspiring.

I’m sorry. I wasn’t being snarky, I promise! I think the handle is really cool and even wondered if you could put it under the lid, where it hangs over.
I’m just a mom worried about safety, and those corners look painful. 😜 Like sitting on a giant lego brick!

This is so smart. Looks like an upgrade!
