Why the fucking fuck in all of shit and fuck do they keep putting this guy in stuff? Does he have kompromat on some hollywood executive? What the fuck is going on. Bomb after bomb, and he has almost no star power, acting ability, his face is creepy and artificial for a 50 something, theres just nothing there. He actively hurts a films chances of success. Theres so many rising, big star power actors they could have put in this role. What the fuck is happening. I genuinely am this close to full believing jared leto is part of some sort of conspiracy.

u/B-BoyStance 1d ago edited 1d ago

I'm not gonna argue that this isn't true of Jared Leto right now/over the last several years.

But the dude has some performances that are really good. Dallas Buyers Club (his best IMO), Lord of War, Requiem for a Dream, Bladerunner 2049, American Psycho. And it was pretty fun watching Brad Pitt beat the shit out of him in Fight Club.

So yeah probably but every once in a while he gets a role he is good for. His career is a weird one, it's mostly shit but he has some very good performances strewn about.

Edit: At this point I'm getting DM'd about including Bladerunner in this list, and like 10 of you replied with the same opinion on his role in it.

Just act like Bladerunner is not in the list. There are 5 other movies here. I get it - you hate Jared Leto. I'm with ya. My sincerest condolences.

21

u/thewaybaseballgo 1d ago

His last scene in Dallas Buyers Club is honestly one of the best performances I’ve ever seen. When he yelled “I don’t want to die,” I felt that so deep in my soul,

17

u/Laser_Disc_Hot_Dish 1d ago

I liked him in the Outsider. Panic Room too.

48

u/monsantobreath 1d ago

Blade runner was weak. He coulda been played by anyone to a similar level. A very good actor could have made his character so much more compelling.

18

u/powertopeople 1d ago

I personally loved him in BR, and I can't imagine anyone playing that role as well.

40

u/Knale 1d ago

Lee Pace is a no-brainer for being able to capture a similar freaky energy while also not being Jared Leto.

13

u/I_W_M_Y 1d ago

As seen in Foundation

11

u/LynkDead 1d ago

I'm a certified hater of Leto, and I do think he did a great job in BR, but I agree with the other poster that there are dozens of other actors who could have done as good a job or better in the same role. A villain like that seems like a dream role for many, you get to be over the top and insane and creepy, none of which are things most people deal with day-to-day, so they have no reference. It really gives the actor a lot of room to play with what's possible. It also means it's harder to mess up. He was good, but I think there are many who could have done better.

Exactly my thought too.

Still interested if only for NIN though!

37

u/Saotik 1d ago

NIN are some of the only artists that could get me excited for this soundtrack after Daft Punk's incredible work on Legacy.

Their grittier sound should really suit the "Tron in the real world" theme of the movie.

8

u/IrrelevantPuppy 1d ago

Lol I think I just discovered something about myself. As long as he’s not a redeemable character I think I can tolerate it. If he’s a cold, unpredictable, singularity focused assassin I could see it working. Don’t give me any “but what if I was the bad guy all along?” bullshit. I don’t want to see nuance from this character. Im sorry, but I just don’t believe his acting when the character is supposed to be likable or relatable. Lean into that and make the difficulty reading him part of the unpredictable scariness.

12

u/VestOfHolding 1d ago

Same! I was like, "Oh, there's the exact moment I lost interest in the movie."

Any news on Garrett Hedlund returning? Or Bruce Boxleitner?

57

u/Skippy8898 1d ago

The movie's wiki page doesn't list them at all.

59

u/AshTheDead1te 1d ago

Such a disappointment to not get them back.

35

u/p3w0 1d ago

Why would you want Tron to star in Tron: Ares? T-T I was pumped to see older Sam and Quorra out and about in the real world

26

u/ERedfieldh 1d ago

to be fair, Tron didn't even star in his origin film. He was a side character throughout most of the film, at best.

10

u/makenzie71 1d ago

Even in Legacy, Tron was primarily a side character. This movie would be better titled just Ares.

6

u/TruthAndAccuracy 1d ago

Hell, he technically wasn't even Tron in anything besides flashbacks. He was stuck as Rinzler until the very end.

→ More replies (1)

53

u/octothorpe_rekt 1d ago

Wait, so, just to confirm: every major character who was canonically live at the end of the last film (Sam, Quorra, Alan Bradley, Edward Dillinger) is not returning. And the main major character who was canonically extremely dead at the end of the last film (Kevin) is returning.

Seems like a recipe for success. /s

10

u/sanaru02 1d ago

Haha this was my exact thought.  I was like "no sensible returning characters, clearly Kevin's suicide is now not a suicide and didn't work to stop programs from using the portal, and flying m shape ships that wouldn't function at all in our world."

All that with Jared leto, how can it not succeed? 😔

Bro, how you gonna have a motherfucking TRON movie with Tron?!!?

→ More replies (5)

40

u/CrashDunning 1d ago

Bruce Boxleitner has said he'll never work with Disney again after they fucked him over by cancelling the original Legacy sequel and then the Tron: Uprising show after one season. Probably other things as well. If the Tron character ever shows up again, he won't be played by him.

Garrett Hedlund has said in interviews from the last year or two that if Ares does well then we may see another movie that goes back to Sam and Quorra's storyline. Alleged leaks for Ares say he's referenced at the end as sequel bait, but they're leaks, so.

17

u/p3w0 1d ago

Sad to hear about Bruce, completely understandable though.

13

u/gom99 1d ago edited 1d ago

Sad, but understandable from Bruce.

Tomorrowland really messed up a lot at Disney. If I remember right the backlash from Disney losing a lot from that movie caused them to cutback investment into Tron. It's a pity, post Legacy I felt there was a lot of potential in the Tron IP. Uprising was surprisingly good. Disney finds way to clutch defeat from the jaws of victory with basically all their IP right now.

28

u/illusionzmichael 1d ago

It's so odd because the people you'd most expect to show up if bad guys from the grid invade the real world are specifically those two characters. We're just supposed to believe they're out there somewhere in this world, watching this all happen and doing literally nothing?

11

u/Boldspaceweasle 1d ago

We're just supposed to believe they're out there somewhere in this world, watching this all happen and doing literally nothing?

"Tron! Where were you!? You were supposed to help save us from the bad guy at the end of this trilogy!"

Hmm, even though Daft Punk isn't doing the soundtrack, and instead Nine Inch Nails, I'm still hyped for the music. I'm certain those in charge of the trailer/marketing knew that the movie being sans Daft Punk would be a huge bummer. So they knew that adding the NIN doing the soundtrack at the end of the trailer was a must.

243

u/scottkensai 1d ago

I listen to the soundtrack of Tron legacy often. I fucking adore it. I am way more excited about Trent Reznor doing this.

64

u/Cruciblelfg123 1d ago

Exactly, even if you love both equally Trent and Atticus have way more experience doing legend movie soundtracks than daft punk. Daft punk did amazing with tron of course don’t get me wrong but I’m with you way more hype for NIN

18

u/phpworm 1d ago

huge NIN fan, but legend soundtracks? That Daft Punk soundtrack was iconic. I can't think of a single soundtrack NIN has done that works outside out of the movie it was made for.

15

u/DeathDealerWolf 1d ago

If you're having a rough day, sit down, close your eyes, and play the Social Network soundtrack. Trent has prevented many a crash out.

Even as a big Daft Punk fan, I must admit I prefer the Reconfigured version of the Album to the original (to my great shame), even knowing the story behind how the album was made.

Edit: Fall (Remixed by M83 vs Big Black Delta) is an absolute banger IMHO.

16

u/MandoSkirata 1d ago

even knowing the story behind how the album was made

I'm out of the loop. What's the story?

12

u/TheWastelandWizard 1d ago

Disney did it without Daft Punk knowing or approving of it, and they were quite unhappy about it. Shame, because I love the Glitch Mob and they did a fantastic job in my book.

9

u/Pagiras 23h ago

Oh, I don't like these remixes at all. I much, much prefer the originals.

They knew that had to do something with the soundtrack so much they addressed it in the trailer.

I would have parked a dump truck full of money infront of DP until they came back.

49

I would have parked a dump truck full of money in front of DP until they came back.

Unfortunately, they're retired. One of them is going deaf.

38

u/BigUptokes 1d ago

It's all gone, Pete Tron.

5

u/the808stateofmind 1d ago

That was a good one.

24

u/Randy_is_reasonable 1d ago

Where did you hear Daft Punk retired because one of them is going deaf? It was reported that Thomas developed tinnitus back in 2002 but has gotten better.

Thomas Bangalter explains the reason for their split

19

u/acmercer 1d ago

Yeah I'm a big Daft Punk fan and I've literally never heard anywhere that one of them was losing their hearing, lol.

9

u/ILoveStinkyFatGirls 1d ago

Rise of AI was their main cause of the break up? They broke up in 2021, they were really ahead of the curve with that one. I feel like that was at least a year or so before AI became the meme that it is

If Daft Punk wasn't doing the music, I could think of no other music act I would prefer over NIN. Especially since it's branded as NIN, and not "just" Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross (who are still great, BTW, just different).

Hell yes! As a huge NIN fan I’m very excited that Trent and Atticus are actually composing this soundtrack under the NIN moniker and not as individuals. Somehow, that carries weight for me. Tron: Legacy was the first soundtrack I went out of my way to experience by seeing the movie, and I will absolutely see Tron: Ares in theatres. Hell, whenever the soundtrack LP drops I think I’ll have to snag it on pre-order, even if I haven’t heard a single thing from it yet.

GET HYPED NIN FANS. Between this and the Peel It Back tour, hopefully this means a new standalone album will be in the works soon!

No problem, it’s a solid show, good voice cast too.

44

u/JiminyJilickers-79 1d ago

It would be great if they brought it back to IMAX for a limited engagement just prior to this movie. That was one of the best 3D IMAX experiences ever.

12

u/backdoorwolf 1d ago

Caught it at imax 3d when it was released. My favorite 3d movie ever.

6

u/Waywoah 1d ago

I hate how quickly Hollywood settled into just using 3D as a way to push depth, there were some really cool concepts being tried when it was first getting popular

5

u/darkenseyreth 1d ago

I wasn't a big fan of the movie, but the original Avatar used 3D in an amazing way. There was one point where a little girl went running down the aisle, and she ran between the two consoles on screen to me. It broke my brain for half a second.

I would actually be pretty pumped for this if I didn't have to see Jared Leto. What a disappointment for a great franchise.

111

u/illusionzmichael 1d ago

I'm just kind of baffled that Hedlund's and Wilde's characters aren't in this at all. Also, wouldn't this story, where the bad guys from the grid invade the real world, basically make the plot from Legacy irrelevant? I'll give it a shot, Leto notwithstanding, but not getting my hopes up.

68

u/Boldspaceweasle 1d ago

I'm just kind of baffled that Hedlund's and Wilde's characters aren't in this at all.

What's even more baffling is the fact that TRON is not even in this movie! Where the hell is Bruce Boxleitner?

Remember Tron? You know? The guy whose name is the literal title to the movie? That Tron?

5

u/Greenscreener 1d ago

My biggest issue with Legacy was the complete lack of Tron in it that meant anything...it was just some generic baddie bullshit again.

24

u/StuartM96 1d ago

TRON isn’t even important in the original TRON.

5

u/TheycallmeHollow 1d ago

Tron is a cooler sounding title than Grid.

At this point the newer generations don’t even know Tron was a character, they just think the world/grid is called Tron.

What’s with the hate for Leto? Seeing lots of comments. Just curious

97

u/Final-Swordfish-6158 1d ago

Jared Leto tends to be a hit or miss actor although lately he has mostly been a miss especially with the godawful Morbius film . There’s also a ton allegations of sexual assault and cult like behaviour from him and his rockband (as well as with some minors) so whenever people who knows this see him it gives big p diddy rkelly vibes

37

u/feartheoldblood90 1d ago

He's also kind of the leader of a weird cult of people who pseudo worship him? It's very strange. I hate the guy personally

53

u/Swartz142 1d ago

Bad actor that think method acting is just being an asshole or committing workplace harassment, the cult thing, pedo thing but mostly just a bad actor.

People are free to disagree.

17

u/Gryphin 1d ago

Ya, his "method acting" for Suicide Squad was apparently horrific towards all the other cast members.

15

u/Grandahl13 1d ago

He’s objectively not a bad actor. He’s had some bad performances but he’s awesome in Panic Room, Requiem for a Dream, and Dallas Buyer’s Club.

Jared Leto has been attached to TRON 3 since 2017, way before Morbius. His interest / investment in the project is what resurrected it after Disney scuttled TRON: Ascension in 2015 just before it was going to start shooting. Basically, this movie wouldn’t exist without Leto’s participation.

33

u/idgarad 1d ago

First wild guess: Sam and Encom commercialized the Grid and there is a virtual Grid people have been living in (the 'real' world we see) and a competitor is invading. Effectively one virtual world being invaded by another. The disparity is that one kept their tech low-key while the other was more pure-Grid. It may even be the case that the 'real' world forgot they are even in a Grid system. So possibly there could be hundreds of worlds and we are seeing a war break out between any number of virtual worlds. Hmmm Everquest going to literal war with World of Warcraft....

Second Guess: Someone, perhaps even Sam tried to extract Flynn from the Grid and inadvertently left the Grid running a little too long and feeling abandoned, again, by the users, the remaining AI in the Grid launch an invasion.

Third Guess: A competitor stole the Grid code and perhaps even the old MCP code, fired up a Grid 3.0 and did a Justin Hammer job of it and unleashed the MCP and it's forces onto the real world. Then someone had to get digitized and infiltrate the 3.0 Grid to take out the MCP itself. Be real interested on how they deal with the whole source of matter\energy deal with the laser array. Like did they cannibalize a skyscraper to make the Recognizer?

26

u/Words_Are_Hrad 1d ago

I will hold onto hope that it is indeed two virtual worlds. That has some potential. If it's light cycles in the real world because Oooooh pretty colors I'm out. Tron... BuT iN tHe ReAl WoRlD! is just such a dumb ass lazy cash grab of a concept.

6

u/npc042 1d ago

I hate that I’m already having to question how Light Cycles and Recognizers even function in the real world. It’s intuitive to assume this stuff obeyed the laws of physics relative to the computerized world of The Grid in the original films. The whole world was almost like a living organism. It’s a tougher pill to swallow seeing Light Cycle trails in the real world.

That said, it all looks and sounds incredible. Very happy to hear that Bridges is involved. And NIN is a very worthy successor to the iconic Daft Punk soundtrack.

Hahaha I love how most of us collectively groaned seeing Jared Leto. Go make some 30 Seconds to Mars music and leave the scifi to the big boys. Cmon Hollywood.

u/CMDR_omnicognate 1d ago

I just wish it didn't have Jared Leto in it.

u/SomethingAboutUsers 1d ago

L'il Jon: WHAT??! OKAAAYYY!!!

7

u/Digitalchicanery 1d ago

I really thought Leto would've been the worst thing about this. The entire concept is just SO stupid.

Adam Sandler already made Pixels.

Jared Leto didn’t say anything in the trailer. Maybe the whole movie will be like that. That’d be fine.

4

u/maylive666 1d ago

WHY IN HEAVENS NAME WOULD YOU CAST THAT A-HOLE INTO ANYTHING ANYMORE FFS

4

u/hobyvh 1d ago

Is the story supposed to make sense? Or is this all fodder for another Pitch Meeting?

4

u/StevenS757 1d ago

For everyone wondering, Jared Leto was signed on to this movie back in 2017, right around when he won his Oscar. Needless to say, he's kinda tanked his career since then, but his contract with Disney was Pay or Play, meaning they had to pay him even if they replaced him. So not surprising they didn't.

u/kickasstimus 1d ago

Well damn. Ok. I’m in.

11

u/Zannahrain3 1d ago

Can't wait for Jared Leto to have say "Its tronning time" and go through a training montage in the middle of the movie.

10

u/asdff4 1d ago

Aww fucking Jared Leto. Out of all the new up and coming actors they had to put this tool bag in it.

13

u/AshTheDead1te 1d ago edited 1d ago

I think it looks great but really wish Jared Leto wasn’t in it, I assume they didn’t want Garret Hedlund back because he doesn’t attract enough people to see it or they couldn’t get him to return, but ugh Leto is such a douchebag.

5

u/ERSTF 1d ago

Unlike Leto who causes instant rejection?

6

u/NBAccount 1d ago

Wish they had found anyone other than Jared Leto to star in this...

6

u/Gon_Snow 1d ago

Any movie with Jerad Leto immediately turns me off from watching it

9

u/Derpykins666 1d ago

ewwwww Jared Leto, I was kind of down until that.

I'm plain just not watching a movie with jared leto

3

u/Spotter01 1d ago

Tron Legacy= Daft Punk Music Video Tron Ares=NIN Music Video

3

u/grinr 1d ago

Exactly. It's unclear if any fans of these movies saw TRON at all.

3

u/Tha_Watcher 1d ago

This has got me nervous only due to the excellent audio track (LFE) on Tron: Legacy, and if they can meet or exceed it, which I have my doubts!

3

u/fire_water_drowned 1d ago

If they ignore iso's entirely, the entire point of Legacy is moot.

3

u/indigonights 1d ago

Ugh why does Jared Leto have to be in this.

3

u/procrastablasta 1d ago

Jared Leto was the worst thing about BR 2049. Limp and vacant as a villain. He brings nothing to his movies I can’t understand why he gets roles

3

u/zylofan 1d ago

Time to ruin Tron. Again. It trorbin time.

5

u/Holeyfield 1d ago

Yes Leto sucks, but guys you heard his voice. Jeff Bridges can overcome anything brought down by Leto.

The myth, the man, the legend is back. Long live Bridges.

3

u/Epocast 1d ago

Jared Leto is going to ruin my favorite franchise.

5

u/VGAPixel 1d ago

Jared Leto is enough for me to skip it, even if it is Tron. He sucks so much ass.

2

u/dedan3 1d ago

Looks great

2

u/SwiftCase 1d ago

Ever since Legacy I've been hoping for a sequel, it's too bad that it looks like Hedlund won't be returning and the story won't continue. Glad for more Tron though and the music sounds amazing.

2

u/Unfazed_One 1d ago

Gonna be hard for me not to compare it to the masterpiece that Legacy is. The visuals were just ahead of their time. This prob has to do with the majority of the story occurring in The Grid. Hope it stays that way but thats just me.

While no Daft Punk is shitty, Im happy that Reznor and team (NIN) will be there in place. I enjoyed the score for Social Network and Gone Girl.

2

u/Sez50 1d ago

This movie feels like a wish off the monkey’s paw “New Tron with NIN soundtrack…” “Aw hell yeah” “…starring Jared Leto” “Aw hell”

2

u/keestie 1d ago

This is so unbelievably stupid.

2

u/KeepWagging 1d ago

Cool, another film that was filmed here in Vancouver but is never, ever going to be set in Vancouver.

2

u/SkullDump 1d ago

The trailer looks good and it’s great to see Gillian Anderson in it but as life long Tron fan I’m kinda gutted it’s being based in the real world. A lot of what makes Tron Tron is that’s it’s based in a digital world and having it based in the real world makes me think it’s going to be like every other action movie out there just with neon trail effects added on.

I really hope I’m wrong though.

2

u/Samurai56M 1d ago

I just wanted a sequel to Tron: Legacy. And we get this Tron in the real world with Jared Leto crap.

2

u/MakingItElsewhere 1d ago

Looked good until the mouse logo popped up in the corner. I've seen what they do to sci-fi. I don't like it.

2

u/razialx 1d ago

Jared Leto is the only headliner I’ve ever walked out of. There are plenty of concerts where I didn’t care about the headliner so didn’t feel bad leaving. We stayed for 30 seconds to mars. At blossom music center. He just twirled around and let the audience sing the songs. Worst show. Definitely won’t spend my money to watch him fuck this up in theaters.

2

u/TimothyZentz 1d ago

As soon as I saw Jared Leto I said NOPE

2

u/krunz 1d ago

Why is jared leto cast in my favorite sci fi movies... he sucks in every one of them.

2

u/chadbrochillout 1d ago

Reeks of Disney Hack writing "what if the tron bikes were in the real world" the director did one of the worst pirates movies. Jared Leto. Not looking great

2

u/MsMiau27 1d ago

The Godzilla treatment on the trailer intro topped with Jared Leto killed the futuristic computer vibes accentuated by a killer Daft Punk soundtrack built from the last film. I think this trailer looked corny and seeing Leto being full Morbius again and bringing absolutely nothing different as an actor besides one face brooding creepy guy is a shit move. What a way to kill the franchise before we really had something. Years of waiting and this corny tone deaf trailer isn't enough. Sorry NIN.

2

u/rebelpancake94 1d ago

Noticeable absence of Disney logo branding in the trailer and poster.

2

u/MFmadchillin 1d ago

What could possibly be the plot to this….without the same characters?

3

u/Jandy777 1d ago

Blue guy has to stop the red guy, same as it ever was

2

u/H3racIes 1d ago

Seems cool. So do a lot of other movies. I'm not watching this specifically because I can't stand Jared Leto

2

u/therealfauts 1d ago

I Morbed

2

u/rainkloud 1d ago

Didn't feel anything. Felt more like a tech demo than a movie trailer.

2

u/Reddit_Account2025 1d ago

This guy looks so much like Jared Leto, I hope it's not him.

2

u/nmantz 1d ago

Legitimately curious: why are yall so against Leto in this? Other than nerds being upset that Morbius was a shit movie, is there some reason I’m supposed to hate Leto I’m not aware of?

I was so fucking hyped...and then I saw Jared Leto and my face went blank...what the fuck were they thinking...

2

u/NfiniteNsight 1d ago

All of you bitching about Jared Leto just for seeing his face for 2 seconds in the trailer are so painfully stupid.
