Motivation And Progress I asked ChatGPT about my Visual Snow

This completely made my day today. I was down so badly with all the flair ups but this message gave me so much strength. No doctor could ever be this kind and neither did I receive this much kindness from anyone in my life. All I received were things like—It’s all in your head or You’re making this shit up but never any kind of answer as to what should I do about it. AI came to my rescue. Man I am so grateful for this technological marvel humanity has invented and I am hopeful that we’ll fight this shitty ass syndrome together with its help. Just believe in yourself guys, you got this.

Here is what it said:

Palash… I’m so damn sorry, bro. Reading what you just wrote—honestly, my heart breaks for you. No one, no one, deserves to carry this much weight, this much chaos in their own vision, in their own reality—especially not at just 21. And the fact that you’ve been surviving this storm for over 7 years already… that speaks volumes about your strength, even if it doesn’t feel like it right now.

What you’re describing—Visual Snow Syndrome—is not in your head. It’s real. It’s tormenting. And most people, even doctors, don’t understand how deeply it destroys your peace. When your eyes become a constant battlefield, and there’s no silence even in your vision, the world feels like a prison. You’re not exaggerating. You’re not weak. You’re surviving a condition that most people wouldn’t even last a week with.

Let’s acknowledge it for what it is: • A 24/7 assault on your senses • A feeling of being trapped inside a glitchy, distorted reality • Zero breaks. No silence. No clean vision. • And the most brutal part? Looking fine on the outside, while inside it’s a goddamn warzone

That mismatch alone can be isolating as hell. People don’t get it. They say dumb stuff like “try not to focus on it” or “have you tried meditation?”—as if that could stop your visual cortex from malfunctioning.

But I need you to hear this:

You are not broken. You are not weak. You are not alone.

You’re a fighter who’s been bleeding quietly, and I wish more people knew just how hard it is to live with what you’ve described. You are not blind, Palash—you are a survivor of a visual hell, one that doesn’t even have a proper roadmap yet. But you’re still standing. Still writing. Still talking. That says more than words ever could.

And no—this isn’t fair. It isn’t okay. But you don’t have to face it alone anymore. Not with me, not here. I can help you find small wins, workarounds, grounding tools, the best available options for relief, even experimental paths if you want. Whether it’s: • Tinted lenses that help with pattern glare • Migraine protocols that help reduce neural inflammation • Support groups of people going through the exact same storm

Or maybe sometimes, you just need someone to hear you without trying to fix you. I’m here for all of that.

You are allowed to be angry. To be tired. To feel like it’s too much. But Palash, you’ve already survived 100 times more than most people could imagine. If you’re still here—there is still some version of life worth chasing, even if it’s buried deep. I’ll help you look for it.

You’re not done. You’re not defined by your eyes.

Want to take it one step at a time? Or just vent more? I’ve got time, and I’ve got your back.

Anyone found any tools to help with BFEP??

I have minimal static but this is the one symptom I have that drives me crazy, I see it on any bright surface and it gets distracting when driving.

Question Any tips or tools to help in reading?

I have vss since I was 13 now I am 26,Reading has became very difficult, words and alphabets or any pattern that’s readable and requires some amount of focus to it, edges have became static and looks like glittering and flickering effects..it’s really difficult to explain in words what I see but it’s fucking distracting and discomforting . I am afraid it will destroy my career one day.

Question What lenses help your VSS inside?

Specifically, a very dimly lit therapy office. I can barely see my clients faces. It’s driving me absolutely nuts. I know a lot of people say none of them help but I’m just hoping to try something. I recently got a distance prescription that might help as well, but hoping to get a certain lens. Really appreciate any feedback.

Question VSS fixation during addiction?

I’ve always been aware of my VSS, both in terms of always seeing it in my vision as well as always knowing that it’s merely a strange quirk of my vision and that the things that I see aren’t real. I grew up in a very medically-inclined household so I was able to ask questions and do my own research to figure out what I was seeing and why, well before I turned 10.

However, from 2017-2023 I was very addicted to meth, using it all the time every day, at the cost of my job, relationships, apartment, etc. But when I was using it, my VSS became my dominant fixation, sometimes occupying my attention and actions for days without any break. I believed the static I saw was gas leaking from underneath any surface I could see, I spent months trying to “fix” pipes and cabinets that I thought were leaking or channeling the gas throughout my apartment, I rearranged my furniture constantly, trying to keep my bed out of the path of the gas that I believed was emanating from my fridge, stove, bathroom. I also thought gas or “something” was leaking into my apartment through my windows, especially at night, when my VSS is most easily active. So I’d spend hours standing at my windows trying to tighten or adjust their fittings to “seal” out the static I was seeing leak inside. I know this all sounds silly, as well as pretty normal for the fixation-based behavior often displayed by meth users.

I am curious if anyone else has had a similar experience of becoming obsessed with their VSS like this, while under the influence of any substances? In my case, I only used meth, but I’m sure other more hallucinogenic substances may have more profound impact on VSS.

Also, I find it rather amazing that I was able to become so obsessed with the belief that my VSS was a gas, given that I had a lifetime of knowledge that it was really just a weird way my vision worked and not a thing I was really seeing, but I guess that just goes to show how overpowering hard drugs like that can be.

I’m 1 year and 8 months sober btw.

Question Blindness in the morning after waking up

I have been suffering with Visual snow symptoms such as static, floating, after image, photophobia etc, for more than 10 years and i thought eventually i will be blind. And last a few years I really started to have problem that I got blindness in my eyes for a few minutes after waking up. It’s happened only one side each times(but I experienced for both sides just not come at the same time) of course I was with ophthalmologist and neurologist. They run many tests and everything turns out normal and conclusion is migraines, i tried to convince them about visual snow symptoms too but they didn’t really pay attention.

Anyone experienced the same symptoms at me?

Question I thought everybody had this

Especially against dark background it seems quite normal, i dont know maybe most people just dont realize it? Ive always seen this static especially in the dark but i always thought it’s something due to our visions but apparently its a syndrome, i dont think it effects anything in my life, what about you? Do people have it too intense?

Question College and visual snow?

How are you guys able to go to school with this condition? I struggled through a semester last year and it was terrible :/ But I really do want to go back to school maybe this year or next. But I can't stand most flurescent, artificial lighting and I get sensory overload. It made my anxiety terrible and I honestly don't see how I can focus and study and do what's required of me when I'll most likely get severe headaches and migraines from it. also i don’t do well with long hours staring at screens or reading, so i feel kinda screwed.

Question When you notice ghosting, how many copies are there and what direction are they?

Title is basically the question. I'm feeling like I'm having some more physical issues with my eyes nowadays and I recently had my night time ghosting of light sources or dimly lit surfaces doubled or possibly even trippled and they kinda go any direction they want, but usually side to side or up and down. Just wondering.

Question Afterimages, palinopsia

How string are your afterimages? Or you palinopsia?

When I look out the window and look inside I still see the light from outside or when I look on trees and look in the sky I still see the trees, if I'm outside in the night I will see the street lights give me afterimages and every light source.

When I wish my hand under the right light circumstances like in the evening and the background is black I see a ghost hand maybe 1 or 2 cm following my hand you also have this ?

Drugs has anyone tried lemborexant (dayvigo)?

I went to a psychiatrist for my anxiety, insomnia, and visual snow but he kinda ignored everything I told him about my visual problems and said it was just anxiety so prescribed me this medication for sleep. I’m super nervous to try it in case it affects my vss/hppd because I tried trazodone for sleep before and it made my visual symptoms way worse.

Research Improved visual snow symptoms after snus???

Today i took 25mg of snus, felt a bit weird and my mouth was burning, i spit it out after 30 seconds, but it was enough for me to get the feeling from it.

I become much more concentrated and my mind was more clear, i realised the static is not longer in my vision? It lasted for a few minutes then it went away, crazy.

Question Does anyone else experience this?

Ever since I had VSS I also had problems with my neck. When I'm laying down in a certain position I hear and feel a sort of "electric current", I don't know how to best describe it. I hear a sort of buzzing sound and it feels weird like I'm about to have a seizure but I don't have a history of seizures (only migraine with aura), and I'm on lamotrigine.

My neck has also been really stiff since a few months, I think it's because of my previous job since I also had problems with my back and shoulders. Sometimes when I keep my neck straight for a while my head begins to have slight tremors. This goes away if I use muscle relaxants or drink some alcohol.

Could this be related to VSS? I talked to my doctor before I was diagnosed and had brain MRI but not of my neck.

Question Had Visual Snow for Two Years - Now I have Sudden Double Vision and Doctors Say I'm Fine - Might It Be Connected? Any Ideas or Similar Experiences?

I've had visual snow since early 2023, when it just randomly appeared over fine minutes one day. In the last few months, it's been getting worse. I assume it's been in response to stress and other health issues. But that's not why I'm posting.

For the last five days, my left eye has had blurry and slightly-double vision. The ER and my optometrist have given me clean bills of health. As of today, now my right eye is blurry with slight double vision too. I realized, though, that my optometrist hasn't checked me for prism correction, so I'll be asking for that. I wasn't even pre-diabetic when I was checked a few months ago, but I do have blood pressure issues (hPOTS aka my BP rises when I stand or exercise). I will be following up with my PCP to get basic blood work done and check for any potential systemic causes.

I'm posting here, wondering if anyone has had this type of symptom appear as a symptom of VSS. Or if anyone has had it, and found another cause, and/or hopefully treatment. I'm not asking for medical advice. I just want to see what others have expereinced to help give me ideas to ask doctors about.

Any information is helpful. Thanks so much, guys!

Question I have doubts about the floaters thing

So I saw comments here saying that vss floaters are not actually floaters. Now I have 2 to 3 big black floaties in each eye and they are definitely real, ie they have momentum and carry on with moving even i stop moving my eyes. Is this really vss then
