News “DeepSeek . . . reportedly has 50,000 Nvidia GPUs and spent $1.6 billion on buildouts”

https://www.tomshardware.com/tech-industry/artificial-intelligence/deepseek-might-not-be-as-disruptive-as-claimed-firm-reportedly-has-50-000-nvidia-gpus-and-spent-usd1-6-billion-on-buildouts

“[I]ndustry analyst firm SemiAnalysis reports that the company behind DeepSeek incurred $1.6 billion in hardware costs and has a fleet of 50,000 Nvidia Hopper GPUs, a finding that undermines the idea that DeepSeek reinvented AI training and inference with dramatically lower investments than the leaders of the AI industry.”

I have no direct positions in NVIDIA but was hoping to buy a new GPU soon.

We have the best memes, all thanks to tariffs.

31

u/Ressy02 Feb 03 '25

Gonna have to find a way to put tariff on that

21

u/vmxnet4 Feb 03 '25

That would be both tariffic and tariffying.

u/Ressy02 Feb 03 '25

As long as it’s tarriffable, it’s all good.

I’ll say one thing. This was true test of WSB stupidity.

If this was a trial run of fake narratives. It was an overwhelming success.

The tariff on Chips wont be signed until 18 Feb. Thats plenty of time for NVDA and TSMC to talk Trump out of tariffs.

7

u/colbyshores Feb 03 '25

Conservative estimate is that it most likely Nvidia will use 18A for a portion of their chips for whatever is at capacity with TSMC

u/According_Win_5983 Feb 03 '25

Or bribe

2

u/ThisKarmaLimitSucks Doombear Feb 03 '25

This is Trump's gameplan.
