Puts and inverse ETFs.

All of them.

what are inverse ETFs?

u/QwertyPolka Mar 03 '25

Oh you pure, pure little soul.

Wait until you learn about 3x leveraged inverse ETFs

Bought a bunch of those at the beginning of Covid expecting to make some money when everything crashed. Sold them at a loss a few months ago

u/QwertyPolka Mar 03 '25

What was the game plan exactly? You're supposed to offload those as soon as the wind changes.

I totally expected the economy to fully shit the bed due to a global pandemic. Imagine my surprise when it dipped a little at first only to recover and keep climbing.

damn that's some bold prediction that backfired heavily

are you going to try again now for the tariffs/KGB/measles combo?

If I can remember my login you bet your ass I will!

spoken like a true

nah it'll keep on trucking

until the war begins that is, then everyone will panic

Inverse ETF printed good money today, but to be fair, the US Emperor could very well have stated "lol joke no tariff" at any point given his mercurial nature.

It was closer to a 50/50 that I would like to admit.

Done! Let's see how much I lose this time.

2

u/QwertyPolka Mar 04 '25

I'm up big time this morning on inverses, but who knows what our King Emperor might say or do to unravel our fine investments.

Yeah, I just sold some shares of DFEN to fund some 3x inverse shares. Made some money off of the DFEN over the last year or so, so I guess that'll be fun to watch disappear

I hope you made bank over the last two days, it was a very fruitful bear market.

9

u/otter111a Mar 03 '25

When I bought 3x leveraged index funds and held them I got a warning saying they’re really not supposed to be held. They’re really supposed to be day traded.

8

u/QwertyPolka Mar 03 '25

The more volatile the market, the truer.

But if it goes straight up or straight down for a couple days, you're making bank.

3

u/LowHangingFrewts Mar 03 '25

TMF all day baby. (I know it's not actually inverse)

2

u/QwertyPolka Mar 03 '25

holy shit 15% over last month is really good, one of the best bet out there with TSDD.

2

u/Heliosvector Mar 03 '25

I can has 3 GPU companies for price of one?

2

u/QwertyPolka Mar 03 '25

you lose your house and have to work 3x shift at Wendy's

that, my friend, is the true magic of leveraged etfs

2

u/Heliosvector Mar 03 '25

Jokes on you. I have no home. I'm a millennial

2

u/QwertyPolka Mar 03 '25

you'll be out of job too when DOGE come knockin at your tent

1

u/Heliosvector Mar 03 '25

I'm Canadian. It ain't doge I have to worry about.

1

u/QwertyPolka Mar 03 '25

Canadian too. Big boogeeyman is our abysmal productivity. It's bad, real bad. Ironically, from my understanding, part of this lack of foresight comes from our companies being heavily dependant on easy upswing from trading goods for USD.

We're facing quite the wake-up call.

3

u/Bobby_Bouch Mar 03 '25

Just buy SQQq

2

u/Mental-ish Mar 04 '25

A scam. It’s basically a ETF that holds options only. When they start to decay they end up losing money. It’s only to hold for 1 day and eventually they all will need up becoming worthless same as with leveraged ETFs. With leveraged ETFs when the market crashes the price goes to zero. The same thing happens with inverse ETFs but when the market goes on a bull run. I say you’re better off holding the options yourself

See: Direxion

This sub is refreshing, over in r/investing they all like "don't time the market, it's JUST politics".

6

u/QwertyPolka Mar 04 '25

I mean, they ARE right most of the time, it just so happens that this current combination of events is quite distressing.

And outside of historical readiness, they are heavily incentivized in bolstering each other as every sale lowers the value of their holdings.

5

u/ofcourseIwantpickles Mar 04 '25

100%. Train is coming right at us, horns blaring. Diamond hands will get you destroyed. I’m 90% cash, any ETF’s you prefer to short the market?

2

u/QwertyPolka Mar 04 '25

I like the modern classics.

TSDD because Tesla is rightfully going straight to hell.

MSTZ because cryptos are a greater fool scheme but this is INCREDIBLY volatile at times.

SPXU for a relatively stress-free ride (I also enjoy its 1x and 2x leveraged kin)

and YINN/YANG, albeit I'm waiting to see how they react to the tariffs down there before I get back on that ride.

1

u/ofcourseIwantpickles Mar 04 '25

Thank you. In heaven, there ain't no beer.

3

u/Holyrain101 Mar 03 '25

Calls on 3x leveraged inverse ETFs

4

u/QwertyPolka Mar 03 '25

This will buy us many Wendys' and even more dumpsters behind them

2

u/tothemoonandback01 Mar 04 '25

I miss the simple days when all we had to do was inverse Cramer.
