Isn’t showing signs of buckling either. Feels like the current admin has managed to exert influence over all other key institutions.

They exerted influence by kidnapping Congress's power of the purse. The Fed, by design, is not federally funded so much as it is the money system itself. Much harder to threaten funding of the organization that has the ability to literally make money.
